http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1139903

Read the thread and then consider the bump at post 38. Who would do that, especially in the context of the thread?
Necrobumping a thread titled "am I already dead?" with a picture of a car dashboard when the OP died in a car accident has to be intentional. Which would suck, but it seems too obvious to not be the case.
That's my thought as well. Maybe I've lost all faith in humanity, but it being a year old thread when literally any other thread would have been better makes me think the worst

Even outside he didn't use ear protection? He's got balls. :lol

As for shooting, the first shot takes courage but the more ammo you use the more you realize a gun is no more harmful than a hammer. It's the same as carrying a kitchen knife or a pair of scissors: a harmless tool if handled with safety. After shooting either you'll realize that your fear was a self made delusion as it was in the case of me, or you'll know if you just don't like guns.

Yeah, we're country folk, no one uses ear protection:p Never seen anyone shoot with protection actually. Most everyone I know that owns guns using them for hunting and only does target practise to either show off a new gun or train for an upcoming hunt, and it usually is always outdoor with a mcguyvered target lol.

Ladies night sounds fun, if I find a range and go I'll let you know how it goes.
Growing up in New Mexico and Tennessee I never saw anyone use ear protection either. Then again, we also always shot on private land. When I started shooting at ranges I got ear and eye protection. It makes such a world of difference and is much more enjoyable.

A lot of ranges are surprisingly cheap I've found. At least so far. There are definitely expensive ones, but a lot of the best ones are also ones that have lasted for decades and are cheap. The range I go to have the following costs:

RIFLES: $10.50
HANDGUNS:  $13.00
TACTICAL: $14.00
SHOTGUNS: $14.00

There's no time limit. Pretty cheap. The most you'll be paying for is ammo.

Yup. After the election progressives/liberals still think they know what's best for everyone. Have an article about advanced black lung cases in rural Kentucky? Time to laugh at the "enemy" for being against their best interests! Time to bring back coal hyuk hyuk! I made a funny! Never mind that those coal jobs that give them black lung were consistently some of the best chances for jobs they've traditionally had, in spite of black lung. But let's make fun of that. Let's band together gang! Those poor conservatives, they just don't know what's good for them!

I'm really trying to break out of the programming and thinking of these awful, awful people.

No bans in that thread for making fun of people with black lung, no siree. We're open to all manners of people and expression!*

The real kicker is the lack of self awareness.

"Why don't these people vote for Democrats?"

Because you make fun of them and tell them what's good for them in some elitist kind of way even when there's a report of black lung, you piece of shit.

Progressives are clearly not progressive. Ties into the gun talk a few pages back. I change my stance on guns and suddenly I'm turning into a conspiracy theorist and a conservative.

We've contributed to this awfulness and we should try to undo and help fix it.

People say how nuts the republicans have gotten but I'm sorry, Democrats are in the same way at this point. I'm not sure who is worse, either. At the very least, from my pov, we're talking about people who say they value different kinds of people and empathy but mock people with black lung because of a difference in political persuasion.

It's disgusting and I've become extremely aware of it after the election, too.

Do you have any idea how much money these guys make? Did they start out in coal because they had no choice? Absolutely, but underground these dudes are making $25~ an hour and he was working OT every single week. You don't get to shift blame back on your lack of choices in life when you're bringing home $80K a year in eastern Kentucky. Now he's going to go on the transplant list and ruin another pair of lungs armed with the knowledge of what's coming. Call me immature but I'm not going to absolve people of culpability in their shitty actions because they had a rough go of it. I'm not over here pretending to be Jesus, I save my tears for people who weren't given such an opportunity.

How do you know he's going to take those transplanted lungs back into the coal mine? Show me your fucking crystal ball, because I'd love to know the future. Also, yes: You're immature as fuck if you think these folks are choosing to go into coal simply because it "pays good." Do they get a "comfortable life" working overtime for their kids? Sure, but like the industrial revolution: It's at the cost of their health. These folks know it, they do it because there's nothing better in their area and 1) doesn't put them into debt [like college] and 2) only requires a high-school degree.

If by "hard" you mean "smug liberal mocking poor working classes from behind their computer screen after losing an election doing that," then yes. Ya'll are going "hard" in here.

Maybe take a drive out to "why would I want to live there</Adam Orth>"-villes sometime and realize that these "retail jobs" some of you guys are suggestion 1) pay jackshit (go look at how Walmart treats it's workers AND farmers that give them fruits/veggies AND the companies they "always low prices... ALWAYS [Walmart]!") and 2) STEM jobs aren't available in these rural places so "degree up!" isn't going to happen.

Seriously and from the bottom of my heart: Fuck each and every one of you mocking these people for getting black lung and going "OH WELL THEY DESERVE IT FOR VOTING TRUMP LOLOLOLOLOL"

I hope Stump comes in here and cleans up some of you for a four-year break. When Trump is elected a second time, maybe ya'll will look in the mirror see how shitty a personality ya'll have, and promptly change that attitude toward having empathy and sympathy and trying to help these folks even if they don't know better.

Getting banned from a shit-hole like GAF for a post like that isn't really so bad, if you can't post something like that for fear of getting banned, why do you want to post there to begin with?

MHWilliams basically mod sanctioned the boo hoo fuck you replies anyways.

You got nothing to apologize for. As it is, a lot of Liberals seem to come from cities and don't understand the rural areas. It's not that hard if you spend a week there (and don't go backpacking) and actually ask these folks about their way of life and how they're managing.

There was a book... trying to think of the name...  Found it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_and_Dimed

I haven't read it personally, but this "poor working class struggling to get by so they have to choose jobs that may cause harm or be 'beneath' them by liberal standards" has been a thing for years.

why do you want to post there to begin with?

Because there's certain segments (read: the community board, mostly PC/Steam-GAF and a few game communities) that aren't bad. But I'm definitely at the point that I'm probably just going to pull an Andy or Segata and go into the night with a "fuck this shithole" attitude. I need to see about getting some of those folks onto a messaging service outside of PM's on GAF at this point.

(And actually reading the OP, it's mentioned by the article/OP that the person would go back to the coal mines with the lungs. But even then: how do you know everyone else would?)

It's more than just empathy/sympathy. A STEM only future may not be all that good. It may not be worth heading towards or the only future possible. Perhaps there really is some Butlerian Jihad future we're headed towards.

Because I can see a workable future with the designers and the workers, but a designers with no place for workers is acting like the service sector can't be as easily replaced or as easily put into misery as a coal miner.

I really, really hate the saying 'And this is why the liberals lost!' but...this is why we lost. Maybe I'm just dumb but having empathy for people in shitty situations is like, a cornerstone of progressive thought. I don't care who they voted for :(
A lot of the same stuff goes on in some of the drug addiction threads.  I don't really get it.

Poor WHITE folks. So that's "thread over" for the BCT regulars with their coded reverse racism posts. For others, it's a lack of perspective and not going to these areas to understand why they're struggling and feeling like they have no future.

Yes, those great-grand-parents that didn't need a $30,000-100,000 college degree to make someones coffee in the morning and take calls! Bootstraps! Bootstraps! *jack-off emote here* GAF really has no clue about how the world works. Jesus.
