Ethan took down the video.

But back on NeoGAF - they hate the guy because he hasn't publicly denounced JonTron. What the holy fuck is wrong with people? JonTron is trash people. Ethan hasn't made a specific video that says "hey, that racist stuff was racist and racism is bad" so he's equally as wrong, in their own estimation. How do you get so fucked up in the head?

I mean, the McCarthyism angle on GAF started with GG and has only gotten worse ever since then. It's not a new thing recently and it's always the same ole posters.
yup
did you know that if anyone in your family ever stayed at a trump hotel in the past 20 years you're literally hitler?

I think my stance on the grossness of mayo is public record at this point. You, however, have yet to tell us whether you were ever caught kissing your sister.

Aioli isn't really mayo though. Mayo is overly stabilized, thereby losing any semblance of flavor and making it more like flavorless paste. A good lime/garlic aioli made by hand is legit. Hellmanns is Satan's semen.

I haven't really run across Lore too often, even though I've been with the site for nearly 13 years. Thus, I don't have much in the way of beef with him. There's some things that I've heard about that he's done that I don't necessarily agree with (assgrab in Barcelona, his shitty mobile ad policy, that 'former fattie' syndrome), but whatevs.

I don't even remember communicating much with him back when I was mod.  I thought he was a dick when I went into the old IRC chat and he kept kicking me.  Asked him why and he responded with "felt like it."  At the time I was laid up with a broken leg, in a foreign country, and had pretty much no social interaction apart from the Internets, so it got to me.  After that I stopped communicating entirely with him, if he happened to post in a thread I was in.

The McCarthyism destroyed most decent discussion on GAF, especially in the OT. Just look how bad it was during the 2016 election. Bernie supporters were brown beaten in every thread with super aggressive "yassss queennnn!!" HillaryGAF going around dog-piling anyone that even hinted at not being 100% behind Hilary. You didn't even have to even imply you supported Trump or the GOP or a third party candidate. Just the notion of not supporting Hilary was enough for the same dozen or so PoliGAF to descend on you and dog-pile. And the mods allowed it.

GAF can claim they aren't an echo-chamber/hive mind all they want. They can ban whoever dares acknowledges the hive-mind mentality all they want. But their actions and how certain posters get a hell of a lot more leeway than others says different. And everyone can see it, even if they deny it, which is why it's a bannable offense.

It's still looks like they may have demonetized it and the pending money doesn't go through until the appeal is successfully made.

Also totally nevermind that a patent troll and an angsty WSJ journalist both are gloating over this shit with their own agendas.

"Bu-but they could have made $7.90 for a few days while the video was up (which they wouldn't even have profited off of unless they made a few hundred minimum)!! Ethan is totally an anti-media/alt-right/GG apologizer for believing this!! Hope he gets sued!"

I had a feeling H3H3 wasn't really painting the full picture, because he takes a simplistic and convenient outlook. It looks like he may have jumped on something enticing without examining it fully and now comes off looking pretty foolish. Worth noting he ended up getting debunked by source code found in web archives, so it's not like it was something obvious, but his blinded eagerness was a bad move nevertheless. Then again, I still don't fully understand what happened, so maybe even that's not the case. Another thing I noticed is that his willingness to openly retracting his video is seen as weakness, even though doubling down would be seen malicious ignorance

As you described it, my problem with the thread has little to do whether H3H3 got it right or not. There is an internet-wide obsession to turn your opponents into acceptable targets (what I called out) and punish them in any way possible (YouTube monetization falling apart is seen as a good thing), then bask in the schadenfreude as a reward (latter part of the thread and dozen other threads). So, in GAF's case, there's really nothing wrong with YouTube's ad ecosystem falling apart even if it's due to dubious motives and means, because it is "justice" if the bad people (an ever-growing category) get punished. Cue ten pages of "dying" on "hills" if anyone disagrees with it. There is something very primitive and universal about it all, so I sometimes wonder if the ideology is just an excuse.

Eh re h3h3 it's just a guy on the net no need to cape for him. Sure gaf swings black white on this stuff but that's gaf   :trumps

Well yeah, he fucked up. But GAF reasons to dismiss the video early on was basically "he is friends with Jontron and has not shitted on him so he is a scumbag" was insane. "What? Jontron actually helped in getting his wife come to the U.S... Fuck him, he needs to call out Jontron in public"

When you say "Bernie supporters were brow-beaten", when are you saying this happened?

If it was during the primary that's one thing.

If it was after the primary, that's entirely deserved, as there shouldn't have even been Bernie supporters after the primary. Since he lost and all.

What I saw was a bunch of "liberals" who wanted to shit talk the nominee of the liberal party getting shut down starting around early summer.

Of cover Trump supporters got their shit kicked in. Trump is scum.

The weird thing is that it's a supposed video game forum and it's a thread about the press distorting truth to dishonestly attack video games and gamer youtubers, but because Hilary said alt-right once an entire 'gaming' forum doesn't care and want to slaughter people like themselves.

I don't like the ones with the cheesy witty phrases on them. Like "I scored with the princess" and "Video games ruined my life, good thing I have 2 extra lives!". Just give me something from 1cc shirts with some obscure long-defunct Japanese game company logo on it.

God I wish I could go back in time and ignore-list More_Badass.

But then how else will you hear about the latest indie roguelike which is a revolutionary postmodern deconstruction of the flight sim genre, featuring a revolutionary art style with a bunch of characters with one-pixel-thin arms and legs?

I mean, I agree that Ethan fucked up and deserves a hit to his credibility for jumping onto something without doing the due diligence to check its veracity. Especially given the kind of video he was making. Glass houses and all that. But what I do not like is the glee and...happiness...so many have at the thought of his livelihood being destroyed. I might have understood that gleefulness if Ethan hadn't made a retraction to his claims, but he did.

It just seems like GAF needs a new target now that Trump is in office. And Youtubers are that new target. As far as GAF is concerned, all Youtubers are alt-right racist fake new enablers that helped Trump win the White House. So any means to take them down a peg and limit their reach is not only acceptable, but a moral obligation.

My YouTube used to be filled with cultured, elite pop culture and left wing political information. Then I realized it all sucked and was embarrassing to watch and I cleaned it all up real good. Now it's filled with toddler videos like Dave & Ava, Super Simple Song and Learn Colors With Dinosaurs, which is about as awesome as that name implies.
