Nah, pretty fucked up for blood needed for medical treatment of being contaminated by a very serious disease in a developed nation. Even if serology techniques are too expensive or uncertain, you can at least try to have some record of patient history of the doners.

I don't really know if giving special priviliges for donors is ethically sound but i understand the annoyance especially since companies sell, instead of donating, freely given blood.

Giving money is also a bad idea generally, countries that have such a system usually have multiplied chances of getting a disease.

All in all while it's probably impossible to guarantee completely uncontaminated blood but it's possible to lower the odds even more to a great effect. Far more could be done for patient safety.

Fuck those that despite being in perfect condition to work choose not to. And remember, I'm not from the US. I live in a place where literally my neighbors don't work at all and have all sorts of commodities. And the neighbor of my grandma's house is essentially a trespasser living for free (yes, I mean the owner can't actually do shit until the trial goes through, and that normally takes two years) because our laws allow him to, despite having a 60k car on the entrance. I live in a society that is borderline to a crumble because we never fought when the politicians kept taking more, in bits, and right now our society is breeding people that don't know what contribution means at all. Btw, we had a 20% of unemployment rate last year. As  I said, we're brewing something very dangerous with this and we're surviving with politicians taking money from social security accounts and getting more and more indebted, despite the average citizen paying 60-70% of what they're paid in taxes. Welcome to Spain.

You can't screen for some disease in it's incubation periods. Everything else kinda depends on the country and it's laws but even then in Finland, for example, they rely on questionnaires instead of official medical history but they do test for the most popular disease like HIV and the different Hepatitis. The last known HIV infection by transfusion was in 86 here, hence i suspect Spain can do far more in patient safety.

I can't speak for every country, but in France every single donation is tested for HIV, a couple of Heps, HTLV, and potential tropical diseases if there's any history (even ancient) of travel to affected countries - like malaria or Chagas. Probably a couple more I forget.

I would imagine that even thou the blood are "freely" given. The maintenance and storage is not. You have cost to do that along with testing the blood for diseases, equipment, staffs, rent, etc... At least that's what I think the money that's being sold goes back into.

The millions dying thing isn't as fun a mass talking point because they're just following the brand orders and always pluck some giant number out of the air that they think sounds close to something someone said or a headline said and millennial Aunt Maxine already topped them all by saying "700 billion people" will die if a Republican Congress passes any kind of change to health insurance laws.

But that second category I do enjoy. Every single thread has someone with an elaborate "my friend/sister/grandmother/wolf familiar/a youtuber I watch who might actually be alt-right but I'm unsure so I'll say 'friend'/etc. now has health care and they will die if this gets changed." Because you know it's a lie. The people with immediate life threatening illnesses requiring constant expense care around the clock who also somehow work and make enough to not qualify for Medicaid but not enough to pay for/acquire any kind of health care/insurance without new heavy subsidization and do not live in a state that already had higher standards than the PPACA required of minimum plans, let alone high level plans that would cover someone who would literally die without continuous health care, is so small as to be statistically negligible. Especially since those people probably would be living in Trump voting states anyway so they deserve it. The sick white supremacist human garbage.

Your troll hyperbole aside(which GAF/Twitter does get ridiculous about TBF), it is true that availability of insurance and healthcare access reduces mortality. There is literature on this.  And really, its just common fucking sense. Hard to catch cancer if you don't have access or can't afford the sort of occasional screenings that will catch it earlier on.


Beyond that for the Daemon crowd(or really just daemon), there is just the basic free-rider problem that only has one of two solutions. Either you begin letting people die on the street if they can't prove ability to pay, or, as America has already done with emergency care, you take care of them regardless. To which the question then becomes one of maximizing efficiency. And a system where a ton of uncompensated care drives up prices for paying customers every year is not a particularly good(or morally justifiable) model.

I was in the student's situation, if I had a laptop instead of the desktop, I think I might have gone to the neighbors to ask for their connection. Granted caps are not a factor for many in UK, but the copper wire speeds are crippling for modern uses. 

It was a tedious period when Sky ISP was rubbing their nipples waiting for the date (like 3 weeks from the agreement) to set-up the connection, all they had to do is ship the equipment ASAP and flip the switch.

I think you SHOULD be nice and ask when is his connection going online, then proceed to help him if he is at least a half-decent or neutral person. He definitely needs the Internet for general uses, even if he left the awkward first impression.

I don't want to generalize, but this board is all about helping others in topics like refugees, hunger etc., but as soon as you have to offer your resource (which doesn't even add any cost), you hoard it for paranoid reasons.

Today, my fiance and I came home, shut the door and began to close the blinds. At this point someone was banging at the door. It was our new neighbor and he asked how we're doing and then asked if he can use our wifi because he is a college student and his isn't connected yet. During this exchange, he did not introduce himself, shake a hand or anything. I flat out told him no. I thought it was incredibly rude.

Aside from having a fuckbuddy who apparently streams this game, I know nothing about it. But all the media I've seen makes it look like another run of the mill shooter. What makes it so special and even deserving of GOTY in a year of Zelda, Nier Automata, and Persona 5 (and hopefully Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2)?

it's light mil-sim battle royale style where you drop out of an airplane with 99 other people, scrounge weapons and then kill or be killed.. matches take 30 minutes if you get to the end, it is from the same creator of the original ARMA mod and even though it is early access they keep improving the game with every patch, they actually add new weapons and mechanics and not just lootboxes. the gameplay is slow and methodical, needing to be aware of your surroundings and other players and react accordingly.

not sure how it's a run of the mill shooter, I don't even know what that means, tbqh

plus, it's fun.
