I'm confused why daemon thinks giving plasma/blood should put you on some "list" that gets you better blood than others (what's the chance of getting HIV/AIDS blood from a blood transfusion these days anyway? I assume it is really low).
Nah, pretty fucked up for blood needed for medical treatment of being contaminated by a very serious disease in a developed nation. Even if serology techniques are too expensive or uncertain, you can at least try to have some record of patient history of the doners.
I don't really know if giving special priviliges for donors is ethically sound but i understand the annoyance especially since companies sell, instead of donating, freely given blood.
Giving money is also a bad idea generally, countries that have such a system usually have multiplied chances of getting a disease.
All in all while it's probably impossible to guarantee completely uncontaminated blood but it's possible to lower the odds even more to a great effect. Far more could be done for patient safety.
