Got the gold tires for beating the staff ghosts.  Now all I have left is the gold glider.  I have just over 3600 coins so I need to fucking grind for 140 courses or so to get 5000 coins.  Online play takes too much time to set up so I guess I’ll be fucking around on the Grand Prix to get it.

Im done with Stardew for a while, farm is running as I envisioned and now I have no motivation to play more.

Still I was hooked for like 20 hours which is more then mot games.

Back to Golf Story now, game has a lot of charm.

I played Odyssey in Target today and I couldn't complete a running jump. Like, the jump button didn't work until I stopped running. This...can't be how the game will actually play, right? The display was just messed up, right? Right?!

I'm halfway through the extra challenges in Mario + Rabbids so that I can once again be 100% in the game. I'm okay with Toad escort missions, but I am all the way over the "reach these areas" challenges.

So for someone who enjoys Fire Emblem games but is not a "Anna is ma waifu, Chrom's lines are badly translated from Japanese"(bless you guys for keeping the awesomeness alive) type of fan.

Is Fire Emblem Warriors worth playing? As far as hack and slash things are concerned I only ever got into Ninety-Nine Nights on Xbox 360 but mostly because there wasn't much else to play.

It’s a hack and slash?!

Time for a second look. I’d written it off assuming it was another core Fire Emblem.

I’m almost at this point but I want to complete the Community Center, max out my farm / house / buildings / tools first. It definitely reminds me of early Terraria where I’m having an absolute blast and can’t put it down and then reach a hard wall of not having much “new”ness to experience and getting bored.

Switch for the most part has been really kickass so far.

So I got both Stardew valley and Golf Story.

Stardew valley does a lot of the harvest moon/rune factory stuff better. Much better townsfolk interaction and way more  choices. But, it also lacks a lot of the QoL polish that both those series had.  It's good but harvest moon and  rune factory did a much better of easing the player into the game.

Golf Story is addictive, but sorta feels like a one trick pony. That's not saying it's bad. It's just a good time, but I don't expect it'll be an engrossing gaming experience.

There's some parts of Golf Story that are a little strange. Some quests that basically didn't really explain themselves well. But other than that it's a great game. I'd like to see a sequel where they maybe add equipment with golf stats and shit.

Honestly I still haven't figured out what any of the stats do. Anyone know of a guide or something?

All stats have a description. Power affects the distance of your shots. The other stats affects various parts of your control e.g.  accuracy or spinning.

I started playing it last night and so far I'm enjoying it.

I'm also waiting on a refresh tbh. I hate the bezel and I wish the Switch was just a bit more portable as I have no intention of stretching Switch games to my 4K TV.

Also waiting for a new Animal Crossing, a new Fashion Forward, and Fire Emblem which isn't a musou. Sadly I can't see a refresh happening before mid-2019 at the earliest.  :'(

Nah, it needs to be reborn as a tie-in to power, focusing on jukebox and Kanan.

Man, did I miss some sort of manual or tutorial in Golf Story?
Beyond the random minimalistic "press X to do Y" prompts and NPC comments. Thankfully, years of golfing games on Wii have edumacated me goodly on most subjects, and trial and error gets you through, no problem. Still, must suck for newbies, casuals and non-golfers.

Not like you really need it as long as you have a working brain, but it feels barebones, kinda. Then again, it does feature golf preeminently on the cover and description, so ...

Fuck disc golf, though. Dammit. I suck at that.

I just bought RE4 for the PS4. I'm not big on horror games so I skipped it until now. Trying to play it in 2017? Not so sure. The movement is too clunky. It's not RE2 bad, which you sorta put up with because it added to the experience. But after Doom? Not sure I'm a good fit for that game. Though, I can totally see why it would've been amazing back when it came out.

They had what looked to be over 20 in stock at best buy last night.  Most had the bright colored handles, but a few had grey.  If I did not feel burned the last 2 times I bought their flagship console (cube and Wii U) I would have been tempted.

For whatever reason, my copy of Fire Emblem Warriors isn't arriving until tomorrow so I beat the first world of Super Bomberman R.  The first 45 minutes was downloading some giant patches for the game.  I was tempted to skip them but since I heard the game is a lot better with the patches, I waited.  The game itself is okay.  I was a big fan of the mid 90s era of Bomberman games (Bomberman 94, Super Bomberman 3-5, Saturn Bomberman) and this game isn't anything like those games.  The controls are a little loose, getting item upgrades is way too easy, and the first world is cruddy and generic looking.  I got three stars for my performance but I was less than impressed so far.  However, there have been a lot worse Bomberman games I've played.  I'll keep playing it until I get to the end.

Well I can't see this perspective as I did play it back when it came out on the cube.

But in a way the game is the polar opposite of Doom. Doom is about constant kinetic movement and in that constant movement finding the right tool to keep the movement going.

RE4 is'nt about constant moment and if anything it's crowd control is all about quick tension. Quick tension from having to stop and take quick aim. All the weapons feel and act different so you really do end up using them depending on the context. Since it's so easy to get overrun and lose your window there becomes lots of tension from having to take aim or pay attention to animation frames in order to do QTE finishers. So it really puts emphasis on good aiming and is really fun because of that.

Also there's emphasis on space and knowing where you are in relation to enemies. Something I forget about all the time in Doom since it's about quickly moving around.

Shooters like Gears took the over the shoulder combat, but the cover system and free movement don't capture RE4's style very well and I guess maybe if you played those before RE4 feels awkward because you can't move around and the field of view seems to go against you, but that all plays into the games crowd control gameplay.

I love the little thing. It’s got the same appeal that the Vita had (powerful for a handheld, nice big screen, dual analogues). I’m not too worried about the size of the library as I haven’t got much gaming time at the moment, and the Switch has plenty enough to keep me busy.

Really impressed with the ‘feel’ of the hardware. If Nintendo made all their hardware like this, I’d have no reason to rag on them. Battery life is decent for what you get, the ergonomics are compromised, but still comfortable. My only real gripe is that, once again, Nintendo use digital triggers and tell racing games to go elsewhere. Really bums me out that after MK8, the only racing game I want is Monster Jam - Crush It!

So yeah, Switch is the new Vita, and powerful handhelds continue to be my weapon of choice ;)

The switch has changed the game when it comes to commuting.

40 minutes each way to work and back of nice quiet gaming time, churned through Mario x Rabbids, Golf Story and currently doing Stardew Valley.

Yeah, it's great. I was never a portable system guy, but it's converted me. My 2-hour each way daily train commute has made the machine really shine.

Never much been into sim racers, so the digital triggers haven't bothered me, but it's a shame for guys like you. Funny that Nintendo pioneered analog triggers with the Gamecube, but are now the only player that doesn't have them.

Yeah, it’s strange, but it’s definitely not new for Nintendo so I went in with eyes wide open. Racers are best enjoyed on my PC with a wheel anyway, so it’s no deal breaker.

Another thing I’m really digging is the ability to set it up in tabletop mode and then beat my kid senseless at MK8. She gets bored quickly so the ability to quickly set it up, whup her, and then return to single player gaming with just a couple of clicks is great. It’s very versatile.

So, firmware 4 stealth-added support for the USB GameCube adapter. Which means ... Smashbros is coming.

I guess that's nice?

Has anyone even used the video recording feature yet?

I'm still miffed that switch has such a shitty wifi chip/driver. The signal is pretty meh, and connections are kinda brittle to set up (e.g. It does not want to piggyback on my mobile phone unless I manually force it to connect a couple of times, sometimes refuses to recognise an available AP unless I manually force a search, etc).

Plus the OS is barebones to a fault. I like KISS as much as anyone, but this is just too simplified.

Mario Kart and other games on the go in that kind of fidelity, or snapping off the joycons for a quick impromptu CoOp session are both amazing though. If only there were more CoOp games already...

This is an action-RPG from Tecmo-Koei, developed by Gust, who I would describe as being known for making "janky" games, starring female characters, with quality issues.  This one originally came out on Vita and PS4 in Japan, IIRC- the original game also came out on Vita and PS4, but the English version came out on PS4 and PC instead.  I tried it briefly and found the game play kind of "meh."  You ran around areas and would get into real-time battles against monsters, and could then do Dynasty Warriors-style combo attacks and summon and command various monsters to assist you.  It just didn't really do much for me.  The sequel, once you get past the endless amount of tutorial fights, feels better to me.  There's more attacks and more control over the familiars, plus you get CPU human partners you can command and team up with to do super moves.  It's still pretty jank, but kind of fun.  Visually it looks like like a Vita game running at 1080P.  I watched videos of the PS4 version and it doesn't really look that much better anyway, lol.  People seem to think the original game is better, so I might go back and check it out again to see if I just needed to play further to unlock more game play stuff.

Of course, when it boils down to it, if you want an action game on the Switch from Tecmo-Koei...get Fire Emblem Warriors over this.  It's 1000 times better.  Unless you want more boobage and lesbian undertones, I guess.

Mario vs. Rabbids is my new Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. Can’t get enough of it at the moment.

Not seeing a thread.

So this is where you went off to after you were banned. Good to see you.

Considering your zeal for the Vita, I've gotta know what you think of the Switch.

I'd hoped that they might have released joycons with analogue triggers. Rocket League on the go is one of the things I'm most excited about playing this year, but it's not going to be as good as it could have been with digital controls.

I thoroughly enjoyed Hyrule Warriors, but I have zero overlap with FE. The main Musou game loop is quite fun for a while, though. Reviews don't seem to be bad either. I just fear I will have zero interest in the characters and story, so motivation will hit rock bottom very quickly.

Oh well. First, I need to get through Mario and Rabbids, anyway. Will keep an eye on FE Musou.

Mario and rabbids was awesome. Got 100% completion after 50 hours. For sure value money for time spent and some genuine awesome moments I won't spoil. Didn't get the season pass however.

As for the characters I don't know anything about fire emblem but if you try it goes fast to pick up stuff about the characters and I think it does allow you to care about them through the gameplay and the little story there is. Almost got the sense the more you know about FE the more one dislikes it because of missing characters or whatever
