If Xenoblade 2 turns out to be fantastic then the Switch officially has the best first year for a game system of all time.

When can we expect virtual console for the switch?

2019. Has to come after the N64 Classic next year.

They could always launch vc and not put n64 shit on it for a while. Not like N's decisions make any goddamn sense.

I think it’s already basically tied with PS2, and honestly, it probably beats the PS2 month for month so far., considering it’s really only been out for like 7or 8 months.

PS4/XB1 had tragic first years. Basically it was headlined by titanfall, second son, a glorified demo of MGSV, Mordor, and a port of TLOU... and I guess Destiny. Not that those are bad games, but none are omgwtfbbq.

Most console first years are pretty "meh" at best or severely lacking.  Especially back when launches weren't worldwide- if you imported, you were getting a new system almost a year early, sure, but had very little to play on it.

The Switch has been pretty awesome with a a steady stream of new releases every month.  And with the stuff on the eShop, there's pretty much been something available almost every week.   And this is without all the "AAA" games and a number of third parties on board.

I liked the original a lot and thought it shat all over RE6.  It had a more classic RE feel and played really well.  You got to play as multiple sets of characters in different locations and the levels were made smaller in scale to fit the portable platform.  The biggest flaw was the extreme lack in enemy variety and if you can get past that, it's pretty enjoyable.  You also open up Raid Mode as you play through the game, which can be played co-op online and is the real "meat" of the game.  There's actually better enemy variety here since they change up the regular enemies' stats/sizes and a loot system of sorts where you can get better weapons and equipment.  In the original game, a large amount of the levels take place on a cruise ship.  The last thing you unlock is a giant cruise ship level where the entire ship is opened up and filled with enemies and bosses all over the place.

Didn't like the sequel as much.  There's something about it visually where it looks like the worst RE graphically, IMO.  Feels low-budget and "jank."  Raid Mode is back and pretty cool in that you get characters and stages from other RE games and I spent more time with that than the story mode.  I only played through a few levels of the story mode so when this hits the Switch I plan on finally playing through the whole game.

Also to note, if you buy the physical Switch version, Capcom did the same thing as Square did with FFX HD on Vita- you get a cartridge with Revelations 1 and Rev 2 is a download code.

Hope its just not an empty open world game.

It's pretty "empty" in the sense that there's not a hell of a whole lot going on on the actual plains of Hyrule.

It's when you start climbing around, exploring rivers, ruins, caves, etc where you find awesome stuff.  And finding the shrines is like 75% of the fun of the game, for me.

The Switch was a huge success during the Thanksgiving break for me. I had a few Jackbox Party packs loaded and played a shit ton. Then getting to be able to lounge around playing Mario on the tv, or at a table, or wherever.

Love this little thing.

It's possible they're starting from scratch on a Smash 5, but I think almost everyone* would be fine with Smash 4 Deluxe in the vein of MK8DX.

Bundle all the DLC, add back Snake and Ice Climbers, and combine all the stages from both versions.  :aah

But it's neat that the GC adapter mysteriously started working in the last update. :jawalrus And it's even doing way more than it did on Wii U (and the ports on the Wii, too): control the actual fucking home menu AND working in every game (whether or not it's actually fully compatible, lol.)

Me too. On my initial playthrough I found myself preferring DKCR(Which was one of my favorite games of last gen) but seeing all the crazy frothing praise for it since makes me want to play it again.

I mean I could hook up the Wii U to the TV again, but I'm lazy.

I never played it and my Wii U doesn't work because I lost the charging cable for the tablet when I moved.

The End Is Nigh came out on Switch today.  It came out on PC last summer and is heading to PS4 later on.  This is from the same dev as Super Meat Boy and is another crazy platformer.  I love the intro.  :lol

The Switch physical release is from Nicalis, so you get a nice NES style instruction booklet and a...soft little black thing?  I guess it's supposed to be the main character.

My foolish/unrealistic wishlist for the Switch:

New F Zero (with a metal soundtrack, no techno trash)
New DKC
New Wave Race (that plays like the 64 one)
New Star Fox that is the spiritual successor to Star Fox 64
New Super Mario RPG co-developed by Square
Final Fantasy 6 remake
Mario Maker
Darksiders collection

Pureeeese take my money Nintendo

New Super Mario RPG co-developed by Square
Why would anyone want this? Nintendo and their subsidiaries have made way better Mario RPGs than anyone at Squenix is even biologically capable of.  The writing would be Kingdom Hearts shit or something, the battle system would be simultaneously overcomplex, asinine, and badly balanced, and it would never get released.  I mean, it's clear that Nintendo doesn't know what to do with the Mario/Luigi & Paper Mario games - but there's nothing Squenix could add that wouldn't just make it worse.  Square fucking sucks now.  Final Fantasy hasn't been good in over a decade, Kingdom Hearts has always been shit and they don't make anything else.

Super Mario RPG sucks.  Shit graphics, tile-based movement with action elements, isometric platforming, and the writing only got better in later games ... there really isn't much it gets right.

Brawlout:

This is a Smash Bros. Melee clone (to the point where characters have some of the same moves and animations as Smash characters, plus wave dashing) filled with a bunch of ho-hum animal character designs, plus Hyper Light Drifter and Juan from Guacamelee as guest characters.  The focus is on "serious" fighting so no items or stage gimmicks.  It also means very little in the way of single player besides fighting the CPU.  They also decided to lock most of the characters and levels behind an in-game paywall, so you have to grind like crazy to unlock everything.  Right now there are lots of issues online and framerate issues offline.  The game play feels kind of off and is a little too clunky and stiff.  The devs have said that they are going to be fixing things, but I wouldn't bother with this until it's improved.  It feels like they released an early access game.

This is also the kind of game that is going to get some play from people wanting something like Smash, but will be dropped like a rock and forgotten once the real thing is out.

Would recommend ARMS, Pokken, or even USF2 over this.
