It's super-creative and if what I've played of the first world keeps up, it's a 10 easily.

I do wish the characters all played differently -what's the point in having all those characters and they're all the same- but it's good to see that you can get abilities to equip and switch between.

3d Mario is day 1 for me, but I've kind of lost interest in 2d Mario. It's mechanically good, but it just all feels the same to me after all these years. Mario Maker 2 was enough 2d Mario for a lifetime for me.

This is why Wonder is good- it ditches a lot of the NSMB stuff and has a different feel.

Wonder was really good, it felt like a successor to SMB3 in a myriad of ways. Highlight for me was the desert castle zone, there seemed to be hidden areas and stages all over the place in that area.

My only issues were the mediocre boss battles and that the challenge level was pretty low for most of the game - the only sections that really tripped me up were:

Special Stage 2 where you had to do some walljumps on small blocks that would disappear in time with the music, as well as the postgame badge marathon

Mario RPG is devoid of all the magic of the original, but it's a fine remake I guess.

They give you the Signal Ring (the item that makes a noise when theres a hidden chest) immediately during the tutorial so now I'm forever triggering my OCD right away, instead of after Valentina.

So far the new music isn't as good either.

At least you can change the music back to the old soundtrack. I wish it had one of those remake/original toggles like the Monkey Island, Halo and Diablo 2 remasters had. Or just include a rom of the SNES version as an unlockable.

watching the trailer I got the feeling this would be the case. the developers seemed to not understand the charm of the original and just redid the graphics

Also I did the 100 jumps and got the Super Suit for the first time. I did it on "Breezy" mode but I did some research and I'm not sure there's actual proof it affects the timing so I'm taking the dub anyway

prime remake looked great, but it also seemed to lose some of the atmosphere of the original. I saw parts that used to be dark lightened up to show off the new graphics. maybe the darker parts were there to hide things in the original, but it did more than hide things.

Nah Prime Remastered is great, enjoyed it and it looks and runs great. I don't think it lost anything imo. Except the annoying Chozo Artifact hunt

That rhythm stage is the only time I dropped below 90 lives. In part because I sacrificed three to her the purple coins before attempting to complete it.

I never played NSMB2 on 3DS, but it’s interesting how there are no flying power up. Badges can replicate some, like the gliding hat is the squirrel suit, the spin boost is the propeller hat.

If the FE4 remake and Grezzo Remake of the Oracle games release...

Holy fucking shit. Those have been cooking since Nintendo shelved the 3DS

All the rumored games released including Metroid Dread and Links Awakening and one was confirmed cancelled but leaked (Wario Land 3DS, which was a remaster of sorts of Wario Land Virtual Boy).

The DKC game makes sense as a tie in with the theme park, they've been working on various Donkey Kong games over the years including with Activision until Vicarous Vision was put on Destiny 2.
The latest rumor was that following that Nintendo decided to work on DK themselves and set-up a new team at EPD specifically for Donkey Kong. Much like how Mario and Zelda have dedicated teams.
From the movie appearance to the LEGO sets and theme park it appears Nintendo has big plans for Donkey Kong.

Also aligns with what I was told about Switch 2 maybe releasing in 2024 but more likely dropping early 2025.

Activision: THPS 1,2 3, + on N64 and GBA
Blizzard: Some classic SNES titles (Lost Vikings)
Rare: All the N64 and GBA games
MS: They had some random games like Age of Empires and Zoo Tycoon on DS

Theres like 5 people on earth who played THPS3 on N64 so that would be cool. It came out a few year after the release of any other N64 game

Wish I shared you all's enthusiasm. I really do. This has been the most boring and uninspired 1st party Nintendo generation for me, besides Link's Awakening, and maybe Mario Maker 2. LA was the only thing I tried that brought a smile to my face. I wish my kids would let me sell ours. (They rarely play it too). I feel like Mugatu taking crazy pills.

Speaking of, where's the best place to trade/sell Switch games? I know it's not gameslop.

Looks like a great game... But a shitty Zelda. They're going to continue to neuter the Zelda franchise with their inching away from actual sword combat. The trailer started strong with Link kicking ass with new combat, but record scratched into puzzle platforming, magic using. If there's playable sword combat in there, they should've showed it.

Nintendo makes a game where you have to problem solve to progress essentially making everything about puzzles and problem solving and dungeons.

Princess Zelda represents the Triforce of Wisdom. It makes sense she wouldn't use a sword. This is a refreshing take on the franchise.

Dragon Quest looks incredible. Making I and II remakes is also a great way to honor Toriyama's legacy. Hearing that theme always gives me goosebumps. The curious thing is that they're making the whole trilogy but III is far more complex than 1 and they're going from III to 1. It gives the hope they might make DQ1 more robust and less simple. I don't know but I'm interested to find out. Hopefully you're still solo because that gives DQ1 its unique flair that feels uniquely DQ1.

Romancing Saga 2 looks great. Will cop Luigi's Mansion 2 (never played a single one of those games), Fantasian, Zelda:Zelda, and Donkey Kong.

It's straying away from sword combat. A Zelda staple. It's about the Sword and the one who wields it.

Don't get me wrong, the game looks like a great game, but not a good Zelda. Them changing the formula doesn't breath fresh air into it, it's simply straying from what makes Zelda a Zelda. It's clear Nintendo doesn't want to associate itself with weapons of any sorts. The Master Sword now breaks ffs.

PS1 already did this better with Brave Fencer Musashi. It still allowed sword combat, which expanded throughout the game, but let you use the sword to absorb powers from enemies and objects to fight enemies with different abilities and clear obstacles, yet this gets gushed over, I guess because you play as the princess. *shrug

And yeah, DQ looks fantastic. Those were the highlight of the direct for me. Only played DQI & V, but I'm super excited about these 2DHD remakes. I think they look aesthetically pleasing. I'd drop an easy $60 if they made a Xenogears in this style.

MP4 I've let soak in more and do look forward to it. It looks like the almost 20 yo trilogy, but that's ok. Would I get a Switch 2 for it? Probably not.

God tier Direct, those SNES/Super Famicom RPG remakes look fantastic.
Metroid Prime Beyond looked like they pulled it out of a time capsule, like finding an untouched artefact.

Zelda looks like a fun take on the series and I've waited for another game with Links Awakening graphics ever since that released.

90% of everything they showed will be in our hands before the year is over.

Nintendo won E3 and they didn't even lift the curtain on the Switch 2.

I really hope MP4 goes deep... Like going subterranean, claustrophobic, inhabitable environment deep, and fucks with your head some. Feeling a sense of being stuck in the bowels of said planet. The 2010 Halo-tier look so far hasn't struck that chord yet. Not saying it needs to be teh dark souls of Metroidz, just bring that sense of immersion the first one did during it's gen. If Switch 2 had VR, that would definitely help. Would buy that instantly.

I think that's my issue with this gen for Nintendo. They brought nothing innovative to the table outside the screen, other than switching easily between a tv and handheld. Shit, The WiiU had more innovative gameplay with it's titles. Just because they keep pumping out stuff that's ONLY on Switch, 1st party, doesn't automatically make it a top tier, fun game. There's nothing they've put out that can't be played on, say, a Switch emulator, or any other console. They started with stuff like ARMS, which was unique and a new IP, but then just put out stuff that could be developed on the WiiU or GC even. It's great they're trying new stuff (with polish!), but expanding (sometimes eliminating) the beloved gameplay styles on classic 1st party IP's doesn't breath fresh air into them... We loved and played them because of what they were. If Nintendo is this creative, why not make a new IP with such gameplay, like they did with ARMS? It's kinda cheap (and sad) they have to sell these new ideas by slapping a well known label on it and calling it new. I know they're better than this, but the only thing they have going (and their main tactic.. you'd be blind not to see it), is luring much younger kids in, because they know parents will buy because of said labels, nothing more. Just not buying it.... I want to, but just not this gen. It's done nothing for me, unlike prior Nintendo generations.
