What sort of illness do people get that makes them suddenly take extended hospitalizations that are months long?

I feel like it almost has to be a mental illness type of thing.

Did Mccain take an extended leave from the Senate due to a mental illness?

Seems like there was a plan to whisk “totally not a Kremlin agent” Julian Assange to a russia that was aborted last minute.

I feel like it almost has to be a mental illness type of thing.

Did Mccain take an extended leave from the Senate due to a mental illness?

1) McCain was not hospitalized for that entire time and did not really take an extended absence like day one of diagnosis. He had that outpatient procedure first, and then continued to work. It is in fact unusual for cancer patients to be hospitalized for extended periods unless they are about to die (mom worked as a nurse in oncology for several years), her husband is saying she is hospitalized. Sudden Multi-week hospitalizations are pretty unusual. She didn’t have a car accident. She probably didn’t have a serious heart attack. I doubt she went into a diabetic coma. It’s unlikely she has a rare difficult to treat infectious disease. You don’t just suddenly get a hip replacement (and you’d be unhospitalized by now anyway in most cases).

2) this was sudden, because she clearly started teaching classes like two weeks earlier. Theoretically, if she was diagnosed with cancer, she would continue to try to teach until she couldn’t anymore.

3) this timing is suspect. What do you think the odds are that the media contacted the Yale dean and Amy Chua herself say 10-14 days or so before publishing a story alleging that she was Sending “hot young things” to Kavanaugh?

My best guess is that 1) she either had a breakdown when this came out or 2) Yale is being nice and she is not hospitalizaed at all but told her she couldn’t work while the investigation was going on but agreed to offer her a cover story.

Edit: it’s possivle she’s actually hospitalized... but it’s also possible she’s trying to avoid getting subpoenaed by the senate.

Edit2: forgot to mention one of the articles mentioned that the response they received was from a crisis PR firm, which means they clearly saw this coming

The Democrats are at it again

Quote
Republican businessman Pete Flores defeated former Democratic congressman Pete Gallego in Texas’s 19th state senate district, which stretches from San Antonio to Big Bend National Park. Flores won by nearly 6 points — a major reversal of fortune for Democrats, who had regularly carried the district, who beat Flores soundly here in 2016, and who won 59 percent of the vote in a July jungle primary.

Democrats, who have been sounding alarms all year about the difficulty of turning out Latino voters, felt their stomachs sink — especially because their candidate seemed to take the election for granted, failing to call in reinforcements.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/paloma/the-trailer/2018/09/20/the-trailer-how-texas-republicans-beat-the-blue-wave/5ba4029a1b326b7c8a8d1596/?utm_term=.433de88cce6a

Get 59% of the vote in the jungle primary. Forget to campaign and lose the real election.

Florida is expanding

Quote
Gallego recycled an old campaign slogan — “I Trust Pete” — even though he was, for the first time, running against someone else named “Pete.”

Trump legal team tried to pay off Manafort and Rick Gates so they wouldn’t flip. The article doesn’t call it a bribe, but that’s obviously what it is.

Also crazy how cheap the motherfuckers are. $25k probably barely scratches the fucking surface of Manafort a legal bills. I guarantee you he’s racked up hundreds of thousands of $s in fees.

Mr. Rosenstein disputed this account.

“The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” he said in a statement. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.”

That’s going to be a tough lift for a President who’s got like 37% approval.

It’s also a terrible idea during the midterms. Now, every fucking candidate is going to have to take a public position on whether or not Rosenstein should be fired. Easy if you’re a Democrat....

That's what I don't get about these clowns. I honestly thought the likes of Rubin and Blaire White were amoral grifters. The kind of people who knew damn well who they were appealing to and why. But apparently they both thought the anti-LGBT guys they hung around with actually legitimately liked them for who they were. Like, how do their brains even work?

U.S. Sen. Debbie Spend-it-now (54%) leads African-American businessman John James (41%)
FAKE NEWS no way she's only up that much, and I kinda doubt he cracks 40%...i should find out if they are going to debate

Quote
When asked if they agree with the statement “I am mad as hell and I won’t take it
anymore”, 56% of the voters agreed. However, Whitmer voters (74%) are almost twice as likely
to agree with this as Schuette voters (38%). So although both parties are angry, it is the
Democrats that are super angry.

“Whitmer and Spend-it-now are in a good position today, however there are still seven
weeks to go and a great deal can happen. As late as mid-October 2016, Hillary Clinton led
Donald Trump by double digits in Michigan according to the RealClearPolitics.com averages.
This race is far from over at this time,” Mitchell concluded.
so it's a lock for the GOP, might as well stop campaigning

Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow and her Republican opponent, John James, have made plans for two televised debates before November’s election, the first time Michigan voters will be able to watch a Senate debate in 10 years.

The candidates said Tuesday they had accepted debate invitations from Grand Valley State University’s WGVU-TV in Grand Rapids and the Detroit Economic Club. Details must still be worked out, including which TV station will partner with the economic club.

The debates, if finalized, were scheduled for Oct. 14 and Oct. 15.

James, a business executive and Iraq War veteran, said he agreed to four other debates after asking media outlets and organizations to partner. But the third-term senator seems unlikely to do more debates, saying WGVU and the economic club have a long history of hosting Senate debates reaching viewers statewide.
Okay, he's done, he might not even crack 35%.

Republicans boot their headaches until after midterms
Quote
Congressional Republicans have found a solution to all their internal problems that plague their party: Delay them until after the midterms.

As the GOP fights to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are seeking to make as few political errors as possible before November. But they are setting up a lame duck that will be characterized by a race to replace Ryan, a government shutdown fight and brutal divisions on several long-shot pieces of legislation that will quickly morph into a nightmare for the party no matter the results of the elections.
Quote
“I don’t think there’s any question that Mitch has planned on a fall that’s very orderly and has laid out those things that are accomplishable. And wisely, might I add,” said Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who has one last lame duck to get through before retirement. “Could there be some highly contentious issues that come up after the election? Yes.”

The list of delayed battles is as lengthy as it is divisive: A fight over President Donald Trump’s border wall, a pitched GOP leadership race in the House, the potential confirmation of a new attorney general to replace Jeff Sessions, consideration of a criminal justice reform bill which cleaves Republicans and Senate antipathy for voting on more tax cuts preferred by House Republicans.
But Bullwinkle, that trick never works!

There's another agency that does most of the background check stuff, which I think is independent of the FBI/DoJ, but relies on them for stuff like fingerprints database and criminal records, IIRC.

They also contract out a certain amount of the work (I only know this cause I've been interviewed as a reference, which will happen to anyone who lives in or around DC long enough).

But the most they can do is just add the accusations and everything else publicly known to the background check report. They can't "investigate" it as if it were a criminal case or come to any conclusions or make any judgments as to criminality or let alone as to what happened. Which is what many of these people seem to be demanding to me.

The Senate has subpoena powers to call the various named witnesses if they want them under oath to testify that they don't remember as they told the media. Then hold them in contempt and hit them with perjury for not shutting up and stepping up. I really don't think the FBI would ever want to get close to something like that in a background check.

"Sure the FBI could investigate it, but the Senate can also subpoena people, so I don't understand why Democrats wouldn't want to just leave this in Chuck Grassley's hands."

I mean, this is the same FBI that refused to properly investigate and thus prosecute Seth Rich's killer, Hillary Clinton. Not even for her criminal e-mails and their criminal destruction.

Who said that? I don't think the FBI can investigate it. They can "investigate" it, but that won't do anything since it'll just be repeating the accusation and denial.

The Democrats have already said they are going to be investigating this and the FBI over it when they take back Congress. Grassley is irrelevant.
