“There was a dropout in the scores for all of the systems” on Dec. 25, Saha said of the scoring system used to rank how the forecast models are performing. “All of the models recovered, except for the GFS, which is still running at the bottom of the pack.” Not only does that mean the day-to-day weather forecast is worse, she said, it is also a national security risk.

Saha thinks it has to do with the data format. The model brings in data from all over the world, from dozens of different countries that are now standardizing the format to adhere to new regulations. The Environmental Modeling Center was working to adjust for the new formats when the shutdown started. Saha said that even though the Weather Service is getting the data, the GFS doesn’t recognize the format, so it can’t use it. And a model forecast is only as good as its input data.

that's because he has no idea how the executive branch works logistically and the proper channels to go through to give commands. All he knows how to do is make vague demands on Twitter and his admin then decides how to interpret and/or slow roll them.

Most presidents, especially if they were less experienced, would want a team of advisors and elder statesmen to help them navigate the choppy political waters, but instead Trump put together a group of people that actively hate him and publicly admit to undermining him at every available opportunity. Trump is having lunch with all the big TV anchors plus he's getting air time on all channels.
After his speech the Democrats have asked for (and have been granted) equal time to speak.

It'll be Schumer and Pelosi delivering the rebuttal.

His aides don't expect Trump to call for a national emergency but they can't be sure because they've only seen a draft and he's writing this speech by himself.
