If we had an election cycle with no debates it would be a huge improvement. Debates are consistently dumb and useless.

How would Bernie have gotten from 5% to 42% without debates that the DNC tried to rig against him though?

Old, but America's real problem is this:

And as long as nothing is done about this, the Republican party, a party that is fighting against the common good, against nature and the future of this planet for the benefit of a select few, a party that under normal circumstances wouldn't be getting more than 10% of the popular vote will continue to get ~50%.

It doesn't matter how great a Democratic candidate is, or how bad a Republican is when half the population never hears about it.

US has the same problem as every other country.
Wealth, power and fame are centralized in a few urban centers. A big part of the country is simply 'not cool' enough to care about and no one will credit a politician for fighting poverty in Pooptown Ohio. And all the people with the power would rather just focus on those thriving urban centers and support a popular vote. Trump got in their trucks, put on their hats and promoted their bible and that was enough.

Manipulative media is a symptom not the cause

Focusing on only big urban centers is a terrible political strategy in the US.

If anything the opposite is true here.

I disagree with your conclusion. It took the Republican party more than 40 years of southern strategy to reach a level of public brainwashing allowing for a clown and obvious conman like Trump to be elected. Those parts of the free world without strong right-wing propaganda network in place overwhelmingly recognize Trump as the dangerous moron he is. In the U.S., roughly half the population doesn't. Trump wouldn't have stood a chance anywhere else in the world.

The problem is; what does it mean to focus on the people outside of urban centers in the US?

They are a combination of complete idiots who vote outside of their own interests abd single issue (abortion) / religious voters.

They are far outnumbered but then you have the electoral college, and the fact that the Senate gives huge amounts of power to States that barely even have urban centers.

It's just completely fucked, we are doomed to be saddled with these idiots and their elected officials.

Lol sounds like we should have let that whole reconstruction thing happen as planned huh

That certainly seems to be one of the root causes. Lincoln's assassination and his awful vice-president really screwed the U.S.

Anyway, the Republican party heavily relies on three undemocratic means to secure the presidency:
Gerrymandering, voter supression and a strong propaganda network. Without these, George H. W. Bush would have been the last Republican president of the past 25 years.
And look how close it was both for George W and Trump despite these means.

I honestly don't know why Democrats can't get a little more strategic minded about this shit and start pushing for things like statehood or representation for DC, Puerto Rico, and other territories? The re-emphasis on voting rights is good, but you got to do stuff to break down the Senate/electoral advantage that isn't going to just be solved with automatic voter registration.

Not only is it the morally right thing do, it would basically hand the Democrats a minimum of 4 new safe seats in the Senate.

Who cares if it's Qatari funded, Al-Jazeera English is as reputable if not more so than pretty much most other news outlet including trash like BBC. If you are going to cry about this shit then I hope you are at least going to be consistent next time you link to news outlet they better not have shilled for a government. They're not reputable. They're a mouthpiece of the Muslim Brotherhood and their Qatari masters.

That's Al-Jazeera Arabic, Al-Jazeera international took the same pro-rebel stance as all the other western media outlet. RT is more comparable to VOA where it's a tool of the state to promote their foreign policy agenda, whereas Qatar is too insignificant for Al-Jazeera to bother doing propaganda for outside of their Arabic channels.

Pretty sure all those shit channels are pretty popular with the Arabs. Even with MBS and co. banning them. I really doubt they spend billions on Al-Jazeera English though. Also didn't realise the primary purpose of a news outlet was to make profit for the investors. How much is BBC World News making?
