Idk, from a purely political standpoint, I’m not sure there is a better candidate on that list than Beto(I reserve the right to change this opinion).

Has that Obama/Trump Rorschach quality to him, appeals well to the base, makes moderates feel safe, has some of the best charisma of the bunch, recognizes the importance of mobilizing urban areas but loves to put effort into connecting with non-urban voters, seems to be inspiring people to want to come and work their ass off for him.

That has typically all been a successful recipe in the past for Democrats.

Bet on Beto. He has that "it" factor to build a cult of personality around him. His speeches will go viral.

I get that, but I also just think it’s hard to lose your way into the Presidency.

He doesn’t have a particularly presidential resume otherwise as a relatively obscure Congressman.

Trump had a spectacular run of presidential campaign fails until he won. No one even remembered that shit.
he never actually ran though, the only time he actually even entered was the Reform primaries in 2000 and he dropped out before they were held

Lincoln was the last person to lose their way into the Presidency along the lines Beto would, short-term Representative who lost a Senate race, then two years later won his party's nomination for President (then won the Presidency despite not being on the ballot in half the states)

since it's late 2018 might as well start talking about the 2020 candidates now. from npr:

surprised sherrod is on this list pondering a run tbh
he just had a spate of stories promoting it:
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/416221-sherrod-brown-mulling-presidential-run-in-2020
https://www.dispatch.com/news/20181112/sherrod-brown-for-president-hes-thinking-about-it

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/15/us/politics/sherrod-brown-ohio-president.html

also they swiped and then did some mild editing on that list from:

nintex, how much money do you want to bet that republicans gain seats in the house?
Not sure that they'll gain. But I'm quite certain that they won't lose much either.
I have this idea of seats swapping. Some reds turn blue, some blue turn red and then you get one or two independent party or green party people in there in an "upset".

At this point everything is 50/50 plus give or take a few percentage points. So unless everyone who didn't vote last time starts registering en masse the end result of all these elections will be roughly the same.

Recently enjoyed a quote, "They shouldn't be called 'conspiracy theories.' 'Theory' is the term we afford to our highest scientific concepts. It should be called 'bad idea sausage,' because it's full of stuff you wouldn't normally accept, and isn't something you want to look at too closely."

That's quite basic.

Trump has had one hell of a weekend. Even though weekends are usually calm.
He said forest fires were caused by not raking the forest floors like they do in Finland. Which sparked a forest raking meme in Finland.
When asked if he's still uncertain about climate change, he responded with 'we'll have a great climate'. Today he called Democrat Adam Schiff "Adam Schitt" in a tweet after the White House spends days moaning about 'respect' and 'decorum'.
On the Kashoggi tape he said he refused to listen to it because it was very violent, very vicious and terrible. After insisting for weeks that he wasn't sure if the Saudi's were to blame.

But the most astounding thing he did this weekend might be taking the fight to the Navy Seals that took down Bin Laden.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/18/nyregion/nycha-lead-paint.html
Quote
For at least two decades, almost every time a child in its apartments tested positive for high lead levels, [the New York City Housing Authority] launched a counteroffensive, city records show. From 2010 through July of this year, the agency challenged 95 percent of the orders it received from the Health Department to remove lead detected in Nycha apartments.

Private landlords almost never contest a finding of lead; they did so in only 4 percent of the 5,000 orders they received over the same period, records show.

Nycha’s strategy often worked. The Health Department backed down in 158 of 211 cases in public housing after the authority challenged its finding, the data shows. A Health Department spokesman said that it rescinded its orders because it became convinced that its initial test was a false positive.
Quote
Lead came up in discussions at Gracie Mansion after the metal was found in the water supply in Flint, Mich., in 2015. The consensus among New York officials was that they did not have to worry about a lead problem in the Housing Authority, according to a person with direct knowledge of the conversations.

Word came in late 2015 to City Hall that the Housing Authority was the subject of a sprawling federal investigation that included lead paint. When the inquiry became public the following March, the de Blasio administration played down the problem, even as it began to learn of inspection failures, several former officials said. Administration officials were dismissive of stories about lead exposure that had appeared in The Daily News.

Not long afterward, public housing residents received letters from the authority requesting access for inspections. The authority did not want to create “a panic” among residents, two people with direct knowledge of the conversations said, so the letters said nothing about yearslong lapses in mandatory lead paint checks.
Quote
Nycha, like all public housing that receives federal funds, must abide by myriad rules, and since 2000, one of those has been to look around older apartments every year to check for possible lead paint hazards, like peeling or flaking paint.

Once those are spotted, inspectors are supposed to conduct more sophisticated tests to determine whether lead is actually present.

In theory, the authority met that requirement by including those checks in its general apartment inspections, which happened annually until 2012. In reality, The Times found, looking for potential lead hazards was rarely part of the routine even before 2012, according to interviews with maintenance workers, residents and officials.

...

In the summer of 2012, the authority stopped making its annual maintenance rounds entirely, in response to a federal rule change.

The decision to stop those apartment inspections came under former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. The authority was eager to direct its maintenance workers to conduct repairs rather than perform so many inspections, two former officials said, to clear a ballooning backlog of open work orders, often called tickets.

“There was such pressure to get tickets completed,” said Paul D’Ambrosi, a former paint inspector who retired in 2012.

Officials are still unsure when lead inspections were last done, The Times found.
Quote
Not that long ago, the city was busy trying to convince a court that lead was a widespread hazard throughout its public housing. In 1989, city lawyers sued companies that made lead paint, accusing them of knowingly selling a poisonous product, much like the successful lawsuits against tobacco companies.

The lawsuit failed. Nycha’s own design specifications showed that except for two developments — Williamsburg in Brooklyn and the Harlem River Houses in Manhattan — the authority had never used the specific type of lead at issue in the suit. Another type of lead was more commonly used on building components, but that was not part of the lawsuit.

From 1998 to 2004, Nycha inspectors testing a sampling of apartments concluded there was lead in less than a third of its buildings. The inventory became a kind of bible: The apartments in buildings that were not on the list, such as the Gowanus and Tompkins Houses, where Mikaila lives, were assumed not to have lead.
Quote
Last week, a judge suggested strongly that the federal government should take over the agency after an investigation found evidence of deep mismanagement, including that the Housing Authority failed to perform lead inspections and then falsely claimed it had.

No one would admit to being misled by social media because it would show:

A) They are gullible fucking morons that don't notice or don't know that "Sponsored Content" in the window on facebook means it's a paid ad and not a legitimate group.
B) It would prove the president is illegitimate because they were duped.

Considering the stuff I see get shared on Facebook all the time, yes, I absolutely believe that Russia was able to flood the platform with fake news that supported Trump and people lapped it up like sweet, sweet candy. Of course, there were plenty of non-Russian outfits that did exactly the same thing with similar results.

Yeah I'm fully on board with El Dandy.

While I see no problem in highlighting Russian interference and combating it I feel like some have convinced themselves that the mere existence of Russian interference has become their pseudo scape goat to explain Trump's election. The problems that caused Trump's presidency run deeper than that. It was very much "right" place, "right" time, and "right" circumstances for it to happen with Russian meddling as a cherry on top. It's not the biggest factor, let alone the factor.

This is sadly true, and yet, it was so close, Hillary might have won without Russians hacking her emails and releasing them in October.

She also might have won if only Comey didn’t have that press conference.

Also, any other Democratic would have mopped the floor with Trump.

Hillary might have made a good President, but she’s a terrible candidate. Old girl just can’t campaign for shit. The only competitive election she’s ever won was a Presidential Primary against a guy who literally switched parties to run... and she still lost 23 states/territories.

If anything it just proves Mississippi Republican Senate candidate Cindy Hyde-Smith right in that we need to stop "liberal" voters at all costs, especially if Democrat or Democrat-lean voters were so easily swayed by shoddy Facebook ads and social media posts into changing their vote from Hillary to Trump, Stein or not voting.
