If anyone ever had a question about the "people" on neogaf now.

However, sending someone to prison for boasting and being full of hot air when you have people who violate the constitution, spy on Americans, start wars under false pretenses and drone strike innocents sitting around in luxurious homes and getting cable news spots? I feel that's the sort of messaging that starts up the tinder of civil war.

Trump probably could have gotten away with this (or at least longer) had he just removed Yavonovich quietly instead of going out of his way to smear her in the public. He's the worst criminal because he always just draws more attention to his illegal actions every fucking time.

probably gonna regret asking this, but why is warren's plan awful and sanders' plan great?

Warren, in typical Warren fashion is backpedaling without saying so on Bernie's policies, just like Clinton did.

If I have to explain this to you Mandark...

https://twitter.com/willmenaker/status/1195401247672676353

Basically this is what she does: "Oh, I support Sander's policies." (Months pass) "Oh, but the way I would implement is... (totally not Sander's way/180'ing on Sander's ideas)."

I haven't read up on it yet cause it's not going to pass regardless.

So then why ask if you're that cynical (and we both know you're right in that case?, but mostly in this case of Warren taking years to do it in the attempt to make it "easier"/more palatable for Senators over Bernie's "ram this circle peg into a star hole" method)?

probably gonna regret asking this, but why is warren's plan awful and sanders' plan great?

Warren has a V and Bernie has a P

Hardly. More "Warren is a fake socialist, while Sanders is a real socialist." But do say I "hate women" or whatever like every other fucking typical liberal does because Warren doesn't pass the progressive sniff test beyond backing for the sake of popularity like Clinton tried.

Has Warren ever even endorsed socialist politics? Unlike someone else who explicitly points to the Nordic model as his inspiration

She's a capitalist unlike Sanders, whose tendency of socialism can be traced back through Ted Kennedy and Harry Truman.

Summary for Mandark (whole post here):

TLDR it's a generous public option plan with cost cutting measures that expands the OG Medicare, Medicaid, and a new "Medicare for All Public Option" until everything is consolidated in her third year.

Anti-corruption:
    - close revolving door
    - huge tax on corporate lobbying ($500k - $1m: 35%, $1m - $5m: 65%, $5m+: 75%)
    - complete ban on direct corporate donations and fundraising for politicians
- undo Trump sabotage of ACA (there's a list but you already know what these are)
- executive orders:
    - lower drug prices, march-in authority under Bayh-Dole
    - make ACA tax credits available to everyone
    - employer rebates from insurance companies must go directly to employee
- remove some federal obstacles to medicaid expansion
- break up Big Hospital
- budget reconciliation to
    - improve Medicare and lower age threshold to 50
    - for everyone else, new public option that's free for children and families at 200% of poverty level
    - public option has automatic enrollment
- states get funding passthrough waivers to try singlepayer model if they want
- $100 billion over ten years in mandatory NIH spending
- Medicare for All legislation happens in 3rd year of term

There's an explicit expectation here that by the time her 3rd year rolls around "the number of people insured by private companies will be quite low".

But the second there would be any movement in the first two years, the Republican propaganda machine would kick in and give them wins in midterms. This plan isn’t realistic at all if you’ve lived during the past decade. It’s fanfic.

single payer will be an afterthought by year three and silently kicked under the rug, much like the General Motors EV1 in the 90's. Under the guise "it's not feasible," plus the Warren reelection campaign will be in full swing. She will not campaign on M4A for reelection. You suckers will be had. Of course, some of you are perfectly fine with a public option, but that's none of my business.

If you expand coverage over two years it will be almost impossible for someone else to roll things back. Look at the Affordable Care Act.

Wouldn’t it be easy for Republicans to tie any of that up in courts though?

Alternately, the ACA is a good lesson to pass something right away even if the implementation is delayed.

You're right that the GOP wouldn't be able to roll back new coverage, but TVC's right that you're not passing any meaningful healthcare legislation in hypothetical president Warren's third year.

the aca couldn't be rolled back because there's too much money behind it. tens of billions in profit for pharma and insurance companies every year, what expense would be too much for them to keep that sweet federal funding secure? how many trumplicans went down for just the threat to that money flow?

Some of the lawsuits against the ACA have gotten traction despite being absolutely ludicrous on their faces (thinking King vs. Burwell).

The survival of any progressive/socdem/whatever legislation is going to depend on John Roberts' sense of shame and that's not a great place to be.

The argument I buy: this is something you can plausibly get 50 votes for, it will be a material benefit to millions of people, it will be almost impossible politically to roll back.

What I don't buy: we can pass legislation to build on that after the midterms.

We're in a world dominated by negative partisanship where midterm backlash is inevitable and Republicans in Congress are never going to hand a Democratic president 1) a big legislative win that 2) vastly expands the government's role in providing health insurance. Maybe the public option/Medicare expansion puts us on a glide path to single payer, but after the Republican party's decade-long fight against the ACA I'm not gonna be too sanguine about that.

Roger Stone is def gonna be gobbling hogs but he'll be the initiator. No doubts about that.

This post and a long commute inspired me to try and edit a Mary Worth strip character into representing Roger's first night in prison. I'm finally almost home, so I'm quitting. If anyone wants to continue hacking poor Wilbur into Roger Stone, please do. I'd appreciate it. You'd be gluing the arms onto my Venus de Milo.

I know my art skills teh sucks. The flip side is that Wilbur is -really easy- source material for when they finally arrest Dick Cheney.
