The best capitalism is socialism.

Quote
WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden will unveil plans on Tuesday to extend the availability of higher biofuel blends of gasoline during the summer to curb soaring fuel costs and to cut reliance on foreign energy sources, senior administration officials said.

I thought a yearning for the good old days before everything was ruined tended to be a conservative viewpoint

I didn't watch any of it, but it's pretty easy to assume that person has some Rose tinted glasses on if they think work only sucks because capitalism ruined it.

Let's face it, capitalism is probably the best thing that ever happened to work because it allowed many, many people to pursue their passions.

Without capitalism there wouldn't be an 8 hour work day and a five day work week.

I credit the five-day work week to the socialist hellgroups called "unions" over unfiltered, Libertarian-style capitalism. But that's just cause I know some history.

Unions are a product and participant of the capitalist system and use its foundations of market supply and demand as tools to further their goals. Captialism doesn't exist in a vacuum without the participation of workers and unions.

Socialists are unsure of whether unions even have a place in a socialist system.

The attempts to implement a socialist system have categorically resulted in worse working conditions than those in capitalist countries. Compare China's 996 working culture to that of western capitalist countries.

On review, I did leave some thoughts unsaid, so I've fixed it below:

Without capitalism, and the balance provided by unions within the captialist system, there wouldn't be an 8 hour work day and a five day work week. People would just be worked into the dirt by their bourgeoise/communist overlords and replaced by the next willing warm body.

The company with the vastest amount of personal information on the most amount of humans has no idea where that data's going. That's comforting. (And unsurprising, to me anyways).

I wouldn't expect Twitter to be much different. Ad networks are data vultures that will exploit every private loophole in order to shave half a penny off a bid or place bids 0.21 milliseconds earlier than the competition.

There's more of those kinds of ordinances than you might think. Usually they're done with the goal of banning places where students would live, though Shawnee (a Kansas City suburb) doesn't appear to have any colleges so I'm not sure what the specific motivation is here. It's interesting that it was an 8-0 vote but the story quotes not a single person from the Council nor anyone who supported the ordinance.

‘Bossware is coming for almost every worker’: the software you might not realize is watching you

Quote
A survey last September by review site Digital.com of 1,250 US employers found 60% with remote employees are using work monitoring software of some type, most commonly to track web browsing and application use. And almost nine out of 10 of the companies said they had terminated workers after implementing monitoring software.

The number and array of tools now on offer to continuously monitor employees’ digital activity and provide feedback to managers is remarkable. Tracking technology can also log keystrokes, take screenshots, record mouse movements, activate webcams and microphones, or periodically snap pictures without employees knowing. And a growing subset incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and complex algorithms to make sense of the data being collected.

One AI monitoring technology, Veriato, gives workers a daily “risk score” which indicates the likelihood they pose a security threat to their employer. This could be because they may accidentally leak something, or because they intend to steal data or intellectual property.

We often have shortages because Chinese or others buy up the supply when theirs is poisoned.

To fix this there's now a Dutch baby formula factory in China.

We've already been warned that the Americans are likely to start buying in bulk.  :doge

Same. There's whole businesses that do nothing more than buy Australian products like baby formula and stuff and send it to rich buyers in China.
