Well that was boring.

I thought the whole point of only 7 episodes this season was because episodes were going to be longer with more shit happening?

They're going to add a couple more seasons. Just watch.

According to spoilers next episode is the longest one in the series I believe (which makes up for this week being the shortest). I forget if episode 7 is also longer than usual, but next week is long.

7 episodes was such a stupid decision. They left so much plot development and characterization on the table. It feels rushed as fuck.
Not really a decision so much as "here's your budget, get fucked"

D&D wanted 10 eps for S7, and for it to be the final season. Either way it was gonna be rushed.

I'm guessing HBO wanted to split up the season to milk the cow as long as they can. They've wanted more GoT shit for a while. They did the same thing with the last season of the Sopranos.

Why would HBO do that exactly?

Two seasons>one season. Their business model demands sub retention, so letting the cash cow go is hard. Remember The Sopranos' last season was split into two parts as well. Of course, The Sopranos is significantly less expensive than Game Of Thrones. The Sopranos shot on location in Paris in that last season, too. At the time it must have been a pretty impressive budget.

Considering the amount of SFX in this season I kind of wonder how tame next season is going to be. You know it is going to be 5 episodes of build up, 1 battle episode, and 1 episode for the denouement.

At this point, HBO accountants are looking at Game of Thrones as a big expense, all the stars on the show got big raises in addition.

Its just shortened seasons is more money to play with but you sacrifice the setup from going one place to another for example.

Why did they speed up the show so much?

This season could easily have been two seasons. It would have been better.

PS: I called Lord Baelish setting Arya up the second he looked over to the spot she was standing.

They fucked up by having earlier seasons be slow as molasses. Didnt Arya take like 4 seasons to cross the sea? Now you have people fast travelling 2x that in the span of 20 mins lol

Episode was pretty damn good, but at this point it is fan service. It played out like an action horror and night king is overpowered as fuck. Now I kinda want to see the first men era where the walkers and NK came about because pushing him back  to the far north must have been insane.

Yes, there are teleport jumps but at the pace they are going it is needed and welcomed

Also, this ep is pretty much the first half of whatever ADOS is supposed to be told in a little more than a hour.

So about that old theory that for some reason popped up in the past couple of days on various news sites...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Night King is Bran, somehow. I always thought it was a bit of nonsense, but the more it goes, the more the NK looks like a 2,000yo (or whatever his age is) popsicle version of Bran.

Thousands and thousands of years ago, Brandon the Builder had raised Winterfell, and some said the Wall. Bran knew the story, but it had never been his favorite. Maybe one of the other Brandons had liked that story. Sometimes Nan would talk to him as if he were her Brandon, the baby she had nursed all those years ago, and sometimes she confused him with his uncle Brandon, who was killed by the Mad King before Bran was even born. She had lived so long, Mother had told him once, that all the Brandon Starks had become one person in her head.

It is funny how extremely fast the show is progressing now compared to the seasons where they followed the books.

Maybe a little too slow before and definitely too fast now.

I'm just a bystander; I read the first book, watched most of s2, and the first 3-4 eps of this current season (s7?) — can someone tell me what the deal is?

Is the TV show past where the books have gone?

If so, has GRRM provided an outline to the show to keep them more or less in line with each other?

If this isn't the last season of GoT, why are they speeding up? Are they trying to finish a storyline?

They're past the books. IIRC they said GRRM gave them an outline of where it was going, but they've also started freelancing more with the story.

There is another season, but both of the last seasons have fewer episodes for budget reasons. That affects the speed at which they're wrapping things up, also that the characters were still so widely dispersed (both geographically and plotwise) at the end of last season, giving them 14 episodes to wrap up about 60 episodes of sprawl.

Presumably next year will deal more directly with the white walkers and have less room for intrigue, so they're especially rushing the intra-human stuff.

Best episode of the series so far. I might bump it down to merely top 3-5 on a rewatch, but definitely one of the best ever.

Maybe if you eat like a handful of ecstacy before the ep.

I long for the days when Ros and the Sand Snakes were the worst parts of the show.  We have a new low with tonight's Sansa/Arya scenes.

This show's writing is Walking Dead level with a bigger budget and dragons.
