I don't know that Cosby is a close enough parallel to pull from while being fair--he has been convicted & has dozens of accusers across decades. Hardwick has 1 accuser.

That's sort of the point.

Jerry Sandusky's wife still defends her husband, IIRC.

Don't forget Lydia Hearst, current wife, as well as exes, friends acknowledging they noticed no signs of an abusive relationship, and the follow-up messages asking for reconciliation. Dykstra's current partner weighed in saying he'd seen evidence of the blacklisting. Dick move for sure. But that's hardly what the driving force of the controversy is about.

I really don't care for the individual case, idk Hardwick or his material and he is more than likely a piece of shit. But I can't help being interested and following these stories, and gauging how public perception on #metoo is changing based on these cases which inhabit a fairly grey area. I think most people are pretty averse to what could be perceived as pretty strong knee jerk reactions to public condemnation. Anecdotally, most women I know have at least questioned whether "metoo has gone too far", mostly in reference to the Aziz case, but this Hardwick thing is doing the rounds now too (though I think most people are only finding out about him now due to this, and it's more of a follow-up bullet point to the Aziz story in the has it gone too far? story arc).

Yup, especially considering the age/power dynamic in that relationship compared to dating a working actress who was his age, or an heiress.

A few years ago there was a really incisive quote in a story on Terry Richardson (who basically had no consequences until #metoo made people go back and reevaluate last year). Can't remember it verbatim, but it was basically "Terry acts like everything is consensual and nobody's pressured, but he never whips his dick out during a shoot with Cameron Diaz or Katy Perry and asks them for a handjob, it's always with the 19 year olds just breaking into modeling."

Absolutely. But there is no pattern, and enough reasonable doubt in the public consciousness regarding her story; lack of corroboration, length of time, those text messages and motive for character assassination and personal attention in her career having fallen apart and getting revenge for his blacklisting. I think most people who doubt her story don't give a fuck about Hardwick though, and people who believe her are likely to be much more vocal.

I don't know either party and my judgement is merely in passing but this is what my gut leads me to believe. It's shitty but I don't think a career for either party should end because of it.

I think it’s very possible that what she is saying is technically mostly true, but we are hearing about me side
of the story and are missing massive amounts of context. It’s very possible that they were in a toxic relationship where both people Acted like total shit heads to each other.

I’ve seen it before where two people are basically good people but treat each other like shit but neither person repeats that in later relationships.

1) Blurred junk
2) the women tend to just lay there like a dead fish and moan in a really irritating way

Something about it just weirds me out, like it is child porn or something.

Yeah, I definitely don’t know enough about Japanese culture to have an opinion.

There was that one dude in Yakuza 6 that broke up with his girlfriend to spend all his money on live chat though.

And it seems like it fetishizes children in a way. It just grosses me out.

http://www.tmz.com/2018/07/03/kevin-spacey-new-london-sexual-assaults-investigation/
Quote
Kevin Spacey is now being investigated for 6 sexual assaults in London ... after 3 new men have come forward with allegations against the actor.

According to the Metropolitan Police ... a man came to them in April claiming he was sexually assaulted in Westminster in 1996. And we're told 2 other men came forward in February with allegations of sexual assault -- one claiming an incident occurred in Gloucester in 2013 and the other in Lambeth in 2008.

As we reported ... Spacey became the subject of a Scotland Yard investigation in January when an alleged victim went to police claiming he was sexually assaulted in Westminster in 2005. Cops in London were already investigating 2 similar complaints before that.

We're told, just like the Scotland Yard cases, officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command are involved in the 3 news cases.

There's also an active criminal investigation in Massachusetts involving a then 18-year-old male. And the L.A. County D.A. is reviewing other allegations.

We've reached out to Spacey's attorney, so far no word back.

Unsurprisingly, several women have come in succession to accuse Besson of sexual misconduct including alleged rape on a young actress playing in Valerian.

Like Strauss Kahn, I'm fairly convinced it's true because some details do line up with second hand accounts I heard (not of sexual misconduct proper but how distraught women could be around him)... And also, you know, because of the stuff in Leon, him marrying a 15 year old actress and the generally extreme Pygmalion relationship he had with all of his muses after that.

Sand Von Roy, who claims she was raped, detailed how tight Besson kept a grip on her appearances and manners and she felt obligated into a relationship with him.

i read the url wrong and thought it was actually a 60 Minutes piece on it at first and was like "neat"

now i'm just disappointed and reading the article to justify making this post
Quote
Clare told The Daily Beast: “We’re proud of the pre-publication work we do to make sure that media reports about our clients are truthful and accurate.”

Clare said, “We take it as a great compliment that, in a small fraction of our matters, professional journalists have retained our firm.”

But Tom Clare added “It’s easy (but flat wrong) for critics to mischaracterize our work as ‘making threats’ and ‘chilling speech’ when, in reality, we promote accurate reporting by presenting the facts and evidence that journalists need to make informed decisions about the stories they are considering for publication.”
this guy is smooth

Quote
A top lawyer at a national media organization was less impressed: “I don’t think this strategy is very effective. You have to look at how many suits are filed to letters sent. You’re in the ratio of elbow cancer.”
i bet this "top lawyer" didn't even know the ratio of elbow cancer when he said this

Even though #metoo has Gone Too Far and Accusations And Rumors Are Ruining Lives now, it's fun to look at the Glenn Thrush case.

He wasn't just acting inappropriate, but he himself was spreading fake rumors about his coworkers' sexual behavior, and kept his job.

Hardwick redeemed:
http://ew.com/tv/2018/07/25/chris-hardwick-amc-talking-dead/

Quote
The network had conducted an investigation into the allegations against Hardwick and issued the following statement on the findings and decision to return the host to the air: “Following a comprehensive assessment by AMC, working with Ivy Kagan Bierman of the firm Loeb & Loeb, who has considerable experience in this area, Chris Hardwick will return to AMC as the host of Talking Dead and Talking with Chris Hardwick. We take these matters very seriously and given the information available to us after a very careful review, including interviews with numerous individuals, we believe returning Chris to work is the appropriate step.”

https://www.thedailybeast.com/sources-nbc-threatened-ronan-farrow-if-he-kept-reporting-on-harvey-weinstein
Quote
The producer who worked alongside Ronan Farrow at NBC News on his Harvey Weinstein investigation quit in protest earlier this month.

Rich McHugh tendered his resignation on Friday, Aug. 17, a year to the day after the Weinstein story left with Farrow. Since then, Farrow has won a Pulitzer Prize for a series of articles that revealed allegations of sexual harassment and assault—and questions have lingered about why the network gave up on the story that helped launch the #MeToo movement.

NBC News has long insisted the Weinstein exposé wasn’t ready to run on air or online, contrary to Farrow’s claims that it was. Farrow’s story, which ultimately ran in The New Yorker, was part of a series that won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, earned him the prestigious George Polk Award for National Reporting, and garnered near-universal praise from his colleagues.

The Daily Beast has uncovered new details of how the process went awry, including alleged threats from NBC, back-biting inside the network about who was truly responsible, and a previously unreported ultimatum by Weinstein’s attorneys.

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, NBC News general counsel Susan Weiner made a series of phone calls to Farrow, threatening to smear him if he continued to report on Weinstein.

Moonves is out.

Fager, the 60 Minutes producer, is also out. His statement about it: "I sent a text message to one of our own CBS reporters demanding that she be fair in covering the story. My language was harsh and, despite the fact that journalists receive harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS did not like it.  One such note should not result in termination after 36 years, but it did."

And here's what he sent...

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/13/business/media/cbs-bull-weatherly-dushku-sexual-harrasment.amp.html

Eliza Dushku is sexually harassed by the star of the CBS show she's on, goes to talk to him about it, gets fired in retaliation. Then she goes to arbitration with CBS, and the network's lawyer submits a bunch of tapes from the set thinking it will help their case when it actually documents the harassment.

The underlying harassment isn't at the level of some of the other #metoo stories, but the CBS team thinking that actual footage of the incidents would somehow clear them, because it also included Dushku swearing? Come on guys.

edit: As a bonus, Les Moonves apparently lied to investigators hired by CBS and they could deny him a $120 million severance package as a result.
