The way I see it the Women on Era aren't going to step back into the flow of the site until this place is cleaned up a bit. The misogyny valve needs to be capped off with some serious enforcement for infractions, and fuckers on other sites (and this one) need to quit doxxing them. And that's just a couple of issues that need to be seriously dealt with.

I realize this is an impractical idea because of the undue burden it would place on the mods, but for all these users who don't get permanent bans for being racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic comments, that when they're banned, there's like a link to an outside reputable or relevant article/study about their ban. Like, "User Banned (1 Week): Transphobia. Please learn more about these issues here: link". And that way if they screw up again in a similar fashion, there's no wiggle room of "How could I know!" whining. I wonder if that would help at all.

One thing I thought of this evening:

I think the fact that ban/warn posts aren't deleted has subconsciously affected my view of the site. At most places, they delete posts that lead to bans/warns entirely. But here, they still show what led to the ban/warn in plain view. This leads me to think that the the moderation isn't as effective as it is because I still SEE the posts even IF action was taken. At the old place, I didn't see nearly as many problematic posts because they were just deleted outright. And it's not like I can easily look away- it's like a trainwreck; if it's there, you can't easily look away. I am wondering if there is a functionality in the forum software to hide content that was banned or warned so we don't have it right in our faces when reading the forum. Like have the post there, but you can only see the red bar unless you click unhide.

I honestly do not believe moderation is proactive enough in curbing the hate and bigotry. Full disclosure: I've been banned a bunch of times for emotional responses to alt right pieces of shit. That's fine, I have no problem with those bans and I'm not here to debate them.

It certainly does feel like there is no desire from a good portion of the moderation staff to ever engage the community outside of their own interests or when summoned. How else can you explain how unsafe lgbtq and women feel here? So many good people driven away. I've used the "pm a mod" feature a few times but never got any answers to my most important questions. It can feel like we are thrown into a room and the mods have said "don't cause any trouble while we're out, but call us if you have any questions", then the cell phone is turned off.

It's pathetic, she continually refuses to listen to reason after we've shown her the actual websites of the celebrities who's names are being used which DIRECTLY SAY that said celebrity will never directly contact any fans and that scammers regularly try using their names. I've managed to copy-down the phone-numbers of one of the scammers she was in text-contact with and am trying to figure out what to do with it (Can't ID the owner of the phone number, but it's from a State that the real "Celebrity" has never actually lived in) - Not sure if to post here or not on account of it potentially being "Doxxing". She claims they have "Verified Accounts" on Instagram but continually refuses to just SHOW THE DAMNED ACCOUNTS TO US and says "What accounts?" whenever we demand to see them.

Though we thought we freed her from the spell for a few hours, one of her friends suggested asking the conmen to send money via those to throw them off, but lo and behold the conmen on the other side of the texts Played-Ball and now she's enthralled again by this "Investment Opportunity" after me and several other friends went through great lengths to realize it's a fucking scam and "It's not my money!!!" isn't an excuse in the world of Bad-Check/Bounce scams and that anyone asking for her Debit Card details via a text is obvious fraud.

It's frustrating because she keeps having Temper-Tantrums whenever we tell her that the people contacting her are not real celebrities and that she is being Groomed and multiple promises (Not threats, PROMISES) from the both of us that if she gives away her Rent-Money contribution to anyone via Western Union that her name is not getting on the next Lease (Provided we can still make rent long enough for our current Lease to expire without being Evicted). And that whenever we try to help her we're "Butting in on [her] business and preventing [her] from making money!" - Despite the fact that anything that effects our ability to make Rent is very much our business. The moderation team has been terrible in every thread related to sexism/racism/homophobia/transphobia, in some cases some threads look really indistinguishable from KiA. ResetERA is full of white male brogressives, and the mods have given them way too much leeway, while simultaneously banning/warning any posts that call them out. The amount of sexism and racism that is casually allowed in here is insane, oftentimes even Reddit threads on the same subject look better than the threads in here.

At this point, I don't give a shit, I'm gonna call out the disgusting comments that I see, and if the mods think I'm being too hostile, they can ban me, I barely feel like I'm in a progressive community anymore.

Well, I have something to say to you: don't be afraid to participate here, don't be worried about not being liked, just be yourself, and you will hopefully find your place here. Hello lurkers. I'm not sure how many of you will read this to the end, but I just want to let you know that I'm thinking about you. You may already have an account, or you may not, but the fact of the matter is, you don't post on these forums. Well, I have something to say to you: don't be afraid to participate here, don't be worried about not being liked, just be yourself, and you will hopefully find your place here. Whether it be in a hangout for a certain video game community, or for a non-gaming topic, or if you prefer to not go to the hangouts altogether and decide to mainly post in news threads, your voice or opinion could be valuable. We may gain a new perspective we've never considered before, or another voice that can explain things in a way that makes it easier for others to grasp. Maybe you come from a region or a group that doesn't have much representation here, I hope that you can eventually become comfortable participating in these forums! As long as you're a nice person, and not a bigot, I think that you'll find your place here! If any of you reading this eventually decide to make an account or post here, please let me know! I hope that this thread has at least some positive effect.

Now I am not sure what to do. Should I shut up and listen or should I not be afraid to participate? I feel like Era is gaslighting me.

I don't think the goal of this form should be to be more "progressive". The goal should be to be open and accepting of people, regardless of color, gender, or national origin. Using the term "progressive" without defining exactly what that means is going to be problematic because everybody is going to have a different idea as to what "progressive" is. I don't want the moderation staff to have either a nebulous or narrow understanding of the term when moderating because that's going to create problems. Either it makes enforcement wildly inconsistent or it turns the forum into an echo chamber where real conversation cannot take place, respectively.

Here's what actually happens: Women and minorities get turned off, they leave, and you're stuck with an echo chamber of white boys like everywhere else on the internet.

It takes one second to click a profile and see the person's gender. In a gender topic like this, where, I'm sure, you'd welcome women's perspective, perhaps it would be a good idea to check the profile of the poster who is taking mild issue with your posts. Just a thought.
