Everyone in the community is in mourning. Especially given FF was advertising Reign and Reverie (the last Deluxe to be released now.
) like two days before the shutdown announcement. It's out of left-field since they just "rebooted" the game with the Revised Core Set and was putting the meta in a great place with the last Africa cycle.
That short two-day time span must mean some talks must have gone seriously ploin-shaped at the very last minute. I mean, sure, they need to sell their inventory so some secrecy is certainly not a bad idea from a business perspective, but mere days is pushing it too far.
So, if one wanted to "archive" a complete game collection, what'd be the best purchase? Old core plus all expansions? That's a bit rich for my poor old wallet, I fear...
Depends on how the community continues. A lot of the old Core 1.0 rotated (#RIPKateAndNoise), Core 2.0 has some cards from Spin and Genesis (which rotated with the end of Red Sands/Cycle 7 and Kitara releasing, they were
just fucking starting their rotation schedule after announcing it 5 years ago. >:|), so if you own those and Core 1.0 you basically already have Core 2.0.
The deluxes are worthwhile for the factions to get some tools (like Shaper getting Self-modifying Code), R&R is giving ALL the factions cards (including the mini-factions introduced in Data and Destiny).
The cycles are less important, but SanSan-on are worthwhile as they all have something in them (new ID's, new resources/etc.), check NetrunnerDB for the list of the cycles and see which datapacks (if any) you want to pick-up.
Given the shut-down news, I'm sure some folks will be selling their complete collection on E-bay for cheap if you wait until after R&R releases to pick up the full collection. There's like 500 cards now, so you won't get bored for a bit if people continue to play (plus there's online, if you're the GAF person I'm thinking of that I've ran into on said site).
