While I do think 343's art direction has been a bit too busy. It still looked way better than any Bungie Hall pre Reach. Halo looked so lame before.

My rankings:
1. AC Odyssey
2. Kinda sexy homeless dude I saw passed out while walking to work. Gross feet but I can deal. They looked diseased.
3. Dying suddenly

So I'm reading the PC Gamer write up and I guess Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is in fact not a soulsborne game at all. There are no RPG mechanics, classes, or levels, just occasional items that upgrade your equipment and gadgets. An action-adventure game not an RPG.

As someone that is partial to Soulsborne style games that is kind of disappointing....Though I guess there is still Nioh 2.

the character progression rpg elements were pretty secondary for me in soulsborne. i like them focusing on a fresh action game a la what bloodborne was doing.

I don't even have a modern video game console and I'm excited for DMC5 and RE2. I guess I'll pick up a PS4 for those two and Soulcalibur next year.

Cyberpunk being first person is disappointing since I wanted that mostly because I wanted to see a cyborg ass swaying in front of me for 50 hours  :esports

Bloodborne didn't have classes. Did it even have levels besides weapon levels? All I remember is you can upgrade your weapon level and put an accessory item on or something. I'd be really surprised if Sekiro isn't Bloodborne 2-ish. Maybe with a bit more focus on action than even bloodborne. Like I'm sure there will be swords with starts and accessories and you can probably upgrade them.

Then maybe Sekiro can become the next best thing to Ninja Gaiden or Onimusha or something. We're swimming way too hard in A-RPGs this gen anyway, even God of War tacked on RPG stats for no reason (other than being hip, I guess). So this seems like a good thing for now. Then maybe the game isn't so redundant with two Niohs on the market either.

Looking a little more like the older games (just without all the other Sega characters, boo, hiss) and I see drifting is there as expected, but it still looks so...SANIC.

However, Sekiro is the biggest disappointment so far for me... such a wasted opportunity AND coming right after Nioh.

Sekiro - no character progression, no character creator, no stats, no armor. Ehh.
Agreed... and the main character looks horribly bland and generic too.

Smash and Pokemon move more units than 3D Mario or Zelda, lol. Switch's second year is gonna be monstrous.

But media/investors always do the opposite - bad news usually raises the stock price more than good news does, and vice versa.

Yeah, he was always supposed to look like some young pretty boy in RE2. I think the initial inspiration was DiCaprio from Titanic.

I mean there's plenty of other "RE2-era" art of Leon where he doesnt look like he fucks pigs in the shed out back. They couldnt get inspiration from that?

To be fair, they are probably only going to have like 2 or 3 games on the top 10 charts of the npd for 2018, even though they will be comparing physical only vs digital + physical.

It is -anyone who says the Switch gets no games is full of creamy shit since it gets releases weekly- but in this case I think they mean big Nintendo IPs or third party releases only on Switch, and there's really not that much out there.  Not that there's shitloads of Sony or MS only games out there, either.

Ya, Sinking City is being developed by Frogwares (the developer of all the Sherlock Holmes games) and Call of Cthulhu is developed by Cyanide (who makes Blood Bowl and Tour de France games :doge ). I think I'm most interested in Sinking City atm, but I hope they're both good.

Oh, neat. I mean that's kinda a weird coincidence to have two games about the exact same thing come out at the same time. But just means 2 chances to get a good game out of it, so cool.

I'm seeing Call of Cthulhu the Puppet Musical next week and so stoked. One of my favorite monsters.

Capcom has been kind of weak with character art recently which is odd because Capcom use to basically be the best when it came to character designs.

But beyond that, man does RE2 look like a dream come true. I'm sorry I couldn't get into first person RE(I'm really not that into FP games, sorry Cyberpunk) and really did'nt want a return to forced camera angels. I never understood why they couldn't make a slow paced survival horror game with RE4's mechanics/camera. You just had to dial down the speed and whatnot. I guess Rev 2 came close to that, but this looks a whole lot better then that.

Though, I still would like a new co-op RE.

Miyazaki: Yes. Within the genre, we especially focused on ninja games. You might be able to tell, but the biggest influence on the early stages of this project was the Tenchu series. We initially considered publishing this under the Tenchu series, but we gave up on that idea quickly. Fundamentally, Tenchu was created by a very different set of developers with idiosyncracies that shone in the work, and if we were to develop under that name, then we feared it would come off as an imitation. So while we received many influences from Tenchu-- including the grappling hook and Ninja Kill-- we created our own foundation for this game.
Quote
Miyazaki: Map design will be very similar to Dark Souls 1. With one exception, the three-dimensional map will be fully interconnected, allowing a high degree of freedom in game progression. The grappling hook will allow you to maneuver effectively through that environment. We think the exploration will be fun.
