Do you mean vast migration ? I guess it's possible there's something historically relevant but I doubt it was achieved with everything under control and no friction (which is apparently what the book speculates on).

Lebanon has 1,7m refugees for a 6m population, that's the first example I think of right now.

Edit : Saint-Domingue / Haïti, of course, comes to mind. I didn't find a pre-slave trade population account but considering the population (500k~) is estimated to have been 90%~ slaves in 1790 and that French governors started shifting the colony to mass agriculture a century prior...

kind of a pointless stat in regards to the current conversation but if we all lived at the pop density of metropolitan tokyo the world's pop could fit within the state of california. personally love urban density done well. californians/'murcan govt can't even manage a single high speed rail network between San Fran and LA though so probably not the best place to propose large infrastructure projects.

eh, just seems like such small brain thinking. we're so close to birth parity, our population is barely increasing, and there are more than enough resources to go around. we're just being really fucking dumb about it all, with certain populations being a hell of a lot more stubborn about it than others.

didn't realise america's distribution of renewable energy was so damned bad too. 11%. one of the wealthiest nations in the worlds, less than 5% of the worlds population, but 17% of global energy consumption, and only 11% is renewable...
