The Nuzlocke Challenge is Pokémon with some added rules:

Rule 1: If a Pokémon faints, it is considered dead, and must be released. There re no exceptions to this

Rule 2: You can only catch the first Pokémon you see in each area. If you knock it out or flee from battle, then you cannot catch anything in that area

So far Jared has done four Nuzlocke Challenges: FireRed, Y, Dark Cry, a ROM hack, and Alpha Sapphire. Of these, he has only completed one

Is that common? Are they considered "acceptable" and non-bannable by companies that run the games/servers?

I side-eye *anyone* I see using Pepe garbage and just assume that they're likely incel trash. It's a policy that's served me well in Discord.

All I can add to this discussion is a small observation from my job as HS teacher.

One of my students had a Pepe as an avatar on his Google account. He, and the rest of the class, were shocked when I told them it was a hate symbol and completely unacceptable.

My colleagues were even more surprised when I told them (they are completely clueless about these things).

This is a STEM program, where many, if not most, of the students play games. They have laptops and almost everyone has a Steam client installed. Yet they seemed to be completely unaware of the meaning of Pepe and similar symbols.

Somewhat surprised to see all the defense of Pepe avatars here. Whenever I see it online I immediately flag the person using it as trash.

Spotting a pepe is like spotting a blank red hat from behind... could be and largely is completely innocent, but approach with caution.

Let the symbolism and stigma wash off before you decide to flash your OK sign and wear your pepe t-shirt.
Until then you are just signal boosting the alt right.

Create your own symbol. Flashing pepe hurts those affected by the alt-right. Stop signal boosting hatred with the excuse of free speech. What is more important to you?

That association exists. It's undeniable. We all lived through the 2016 election. We all know about Charlottesville and the white supremacist terrorist, whose Facebook profile went viral -- covered in white supremacist, Trump supporting, and 4chan iconography including Pepe. You don't get to erase that because you want a funny looking frog you laugh at to be what you want it to be and not what it is.

However, the people in this thread know better. They know what the symbol means in today's world. And thus y'all have no excuse. You are defending a symbol known to be used by hate groups as a "in plain sight" method of connection, a symbol used to shift easily influenced people like teenagers towards the alt-right. "What's Pepe? It's from 4chan. What's 4chan? Look for yourself." You have no such excuse to claim ignorance. And I have zero empathy for your perspective to dismiss those associations. People who use Pepe in this day should be made aware of its association with hate groups. And they should be judged accordingly based on their reaction. It takes absolutely no effort to stop using Pepe memes, to say, "Wow, that's fucked. I don't want to be even remotely associated with hate." People who can't manage that are outing themselves.

I had an acquaintance from Northern Europe make the exact same argument in defense of blackface. Here's what I'll say -- now you know. Now you know it's associated with white supremacy and terrorism. A woman was killed. Her name was Heather Heyer. What's your next step?

No, it's on discord too. A few of my trans friends have the frog emojis on their servers too. I really don't get why people think the frog is alt right. Calling a smiling cartoon frog hate speech is completely ridiculous.

There are even Pepe emotes on the DivisionERA Discord server. I wouldn't automatically assume that someone who uses Pepe is alt-right.

Oh heavens no. You absolutely can't assume this. I know *so* many people who use pepe emotes - because they're funny -- and they are absolutely not alt right or even the type of person who would be alt right. They just think the emote is funny. Most of them probably aren't even aware that it's in the minds of some an alt right thing.

To be honest, I've only heard this viewpoint on era. Anywhere else I go he's just a funny frog. I legit didn't know about this angle before reading about it here.

If you look at the examples of Pepe in that article, they are very different from the versions of Pepe used as emotes or memes. In all intents and purposes, the Nazi Pepes and emote Pepes are totally different memes.
