I’m still trying to understand how supposedly ‘woke’ people have decided that the person on the poster is transgender. It makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever. First, you’d need to assign a definite gender to the person in the picture, and then, you need to create a situation where they were born expected to confirm to a different gender.

I feel like I’m going crazy. I’ve seen one whole post that points out the separation between sex and gender, and that’s it. It’s as if everyone just forgot.

It literally does not matter if the woman in the ad is cis with a prosthetic or not. It’s still relying on trans imagery. It’s still pairing a picture of a woman with a penis with a portmanteau of “chromosome” and “manticore”.

I actually don't mind if someone is a "sex and gender are different things" person or if they're a "sex and gender are the same thing" person, since we're just talking definitions. All I ask is that they be consistent, instead of just constantly flipping from one definition to another to win an argument.

this idpol based idea that if you consider yourself a member of a specific group that your opinions on something *as a member of a group* are therefore the opinions held by the entirety of that group, and that you therefore have the authority to declare something as heretical to that group because you don't like it is pretty terrible
That's not an "idpol based idea." See every sentence every uttered that began with or contained a variation of "as a [xyz]."

Why is re-branding regular human behaviour like that so successful? :goty2

It literally does matter though, that’s just it. A woman with a prosthetic penis isn’t ‘trans imagery’ unless you have no understanding of the difference between sex and gender. She might well be transsexual, but I would think it’s likeliest that she’s neither transgender nor transsexual, and is in fact a cisgender woman with an augmented cock.

I noticed that although the artist mentioned the LGBT community, she never referred to the person as being trans.

I don’t know why it’s vexing me so much, but I can’t help but feel like people are fighting battles that won’t help them win wars.

I actually don't mind if someone is a "sex and gender are different things" person or if they're a "sex and gender are the same thing" person, since we're just talking definitions. Referring strictly to Reset, they’re a bunch of hypocritical fucks. I’m not at all surprised that they’ll simply choose whichever politics suit them in the moment. I’ve seen other trans voices that I actually respect upset by this CDPR stuff though, and although I don’t want to argue with them, I’m confused and disappointed. Getting strident about shit that you’re not consistent with is a terrible idea.

this is because 6% of the population is trans and when they speak the rest of us need to shut up and listen

if we're not part of the 6% the issue doesn't concern us and we really have no business commenting on it

Turns out there is a second poster showing her at home undressing, she doesn't have a dick at all, just striped panties underneath a strangely pleated codpiece, we see the other side of it and it's just some ridges

To be fair, the concept is threatening in a way (as it should be, since wholesale changes to the human condition are scary). Being trans loses some meaning in a world where you can remake your body at will; if you can remake your body to such an extent, there is less gravity to an initial mismatch of body with mind or societal expectations. One of the possible outcomes of this lessened gravity is that body transformations of that type would be commercialized like in the ad. It is scary to imagine such a change.

It's funny how Gestault realizes that following the rules of the forum, you're not allowed to disagree with a trans member, no matter their opinion, but he only points this out when one trans member complaints that the transgender people who are ok with the depiction are being ignored.

Quote
Quote
Stop disregarding transgender people who disagree with you, please. You're at least the third person I see implying anyone agreeing with the artist is actually cis, and it's pretty tiresome.

You are arguing for the agency of transgender people by discounting us. Stop it.
I'll point out that you've created an oroboros of no one being able to disagree with you, while also putting together this strawman that reduces an accurate observation about cis hostility to "literally 100% of those who disagree with the artist are cis." Engaging with others in the convo IS part of listening to people, and that does include disagreement.

In this world, someone born male who identified as a woman would just become a woman biologically indistinguishable from any other, without too much difficulty. Trans people as they exist today wouldn't exist at all unless by choice.

Highly speculative fiction really shouldn't be bound into acknowledging and providing commentary on the social problems caused by the limitations of today's technology.
I'd wager if gender fluidity as well as sexual orientation fluidity are a thing (and enough time had passed for the technology to morph the culture), then people would probably go back and forth anyway, so it probably wouldn't make sense to even use a thousand categories.

I like that The Bire can have a much deeper and genuinely more interesting discussion about cyberpunk the genre and how transgendered people may or may not fit in it than a forum with like 40% trans staff and a rigid policy meant to defend their right to exist and have dignity. Maybe... Poland isn't so bad after all.

To be fair, these are deeply existential issues for those 40%, so discussing them in any context can feel threatening.

It doesn't help that they then take these philosophical threats as literal and respond accordingly.

Thread is now too long to summarize but there's been some great low-key drama in the Pokemon thread.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/pok%C3%A9mon-from-pok%C3%AAmon-home-can-be-transferred-to-sword-shield-only-if-in-galar-pok%C3%A9dex.122523/page-83

Basically Serebii is the pokemon version of Huelen and is going 100% at bat for the developers against the rising fan backlash, even as he chuckles nervously to himself and admits quietly that he's against the changes as well. :doge

Edit- And yes I know who the guy is, he's run one of the biggest Poke sites since the 90s and you can in fact still see that in the design today.

Joe/Serebii is an idiot. We all know this, sweatie.

NeoGAF will forever immortalize his idiotic defense of the Pokemon centers being empty with:

Quote
My friend and I were chatting like usual, when after two drinks, she was starting to be a little more outspoken if you will.

So she says to me that I have features that resemble the Who characters from Seuss’ books.  This was after she didn’t want to tell me after I tried getting it out of her because I was both curious and wondering how mean-spirited this was going to become.

I shrugged it off initially. But it stood with me until today. And yeah, it’s fucked up. And I’m offended.

I’ve never taken a jab at her looks. Ever. So if after a fee drinks she telling me this, is this an indication that she’s actually an asshole?

I hit her up earlier and told her I felt bad after thinking about it. I was letting it rock as to sort out my feelings diplomatically.

But man, is this a sign she’s toxic and I should distance myself from her? . . .   and to me a sign she’s toxic and generally mean-spirited.
Or am I being soft?

Also, lmao, I kinda get what she was saying now LOL.

This guy's looks are the least of his problems.  Being a doormat in need of validation to have feelings is way less attractive.

And lol at a toxic friendship being getting ribbed for you appearance.  Toxic friends are needy alcoholics, borderline personalities, inveterate liars, social climbers, etc.  Not pussy ass gradeschool shit like, "she called me a bad name."

I genuinely think that whole "use your face for an avatar" that was on gaf killed the forum.

Someone at the investors meeting should have grilled Nintendo about Retro. 5+ years of nothing from that studio, and those employees are still getting paid, draining cash flow. What gives?

...maybe that actually is the real Ron Paul  :ohhh
