Shocking. A Republican doesn't know what is wrong with their fucked up views. Truly shocking news.

That Maine controversy looks like a heartbreaking shit show. The article that was posted there made me feel more sympathy for the restaurant owner rather than the employee when it started to sound the reason why she was fired was because she was skipping work because she was afraid and her coworkers lose patience with her. It sounds that the group harassing her are legit scumbags, though.

That article writer seems a little clueless that skipping work and alienating your coworkers were probably to much to handle.

The boss is bad, but it sounds like the entire establishment (co-workers) has no spine for her either. Unfortunate.

Sounds like they we’re covering for her for months. Is a fucking restaurant at the end of the day, whatever positive baggage it has. The employees should have managed the situation better, but she has the right to not get involved in that fight.

Slayven is actually white.

I walked into a comic shop on Bourbon Street tonight and thought of you fellas. A table full of nerds, every shade from translucent to pale.  All drunk, wearing superhero cosplay.  I could feel your thirst all the way from here. Then I ate a turkey sandwich with mayo and potato salad.

why isn't everyone liking this? in my top ten posts of the year.

Look at how Moore defends Obama's failures. He doesn't even mention the drone wars or terrorist kill list. He's willing to make excuses.

Contrast with this trailer.

Ergo, like most Democrats Moore is an imperialist. He makes critiques on Democrats but they're always soft criticisms. Not in the way he goes after Republicans. He's for the party more than his so-called ideals. He's for the team.

Democrats in a nutshell. They are anti-war when it suits them, and that's when the other party is in office.

Both parties are vile.

:confused

literally the opening of his "defence" you just posted of Obama is a list of things Obama really fucked up on, and he says - verbatim - "There's a lot of things I'm really not happy with" talking about his legacy.
He outright calls him out in Fahrenheit 11/9 for Flint still not having drinkable water, and Obama just breezes in, gives a press conference, then breezes out again not fixing shit.

You should actually watch his stuff. Fahrenheit 9/11 isn't an "anti war" film.
If anything its a "George Dubya was dangerously incompetent" hit piece, which, you know, let's not pretend is crazy revisionist history here.
As a puppet figurehead to special interests, he might have muddled through as a one termer mediocrity, but in a post 9/11 hysteria was responsible for fucking up a whole lot of shit at really deep levels.

He's not a politician, he's a documentarian, and a pretty talented and witty one at that.
He's not demonised by the likes of Fox news because hes a fat lefty with a passing resemblance to gabe newell. There's tons of fat leftys.
They fucking hate him because he's more often right than wrong. Almost literally the opposite of Fox News.

I acknowledge he brings up criticisms. But again, they're soft, limp criticisms. He far, far harder on Republicans. He's a party man.

In any case, you're focusing too much on Michael Moore. Moore isn't the point. He's an example at how often Democrats look away from their own camp while feeding themselves from the trough when a Republican is President. But don't get me wrong, Republicans do the same damn thing.

Which is the crux of my initial post: parties in America aren't about values or even ideology, but teams.

I really don't see what's wrong with anything I've said but ok.

idk about moore, but Obama definitely got preferential treatment from the european media who absolutely bought into the hopium. He promised to save us all from Bush warmongering and never really got called out on not delivering on it. We didn't even call him out on not closing Guantanamo bay ffs. And when he signed off on a hitjob on a us citizen? Barely a peep, but if Bush had done that... whew.

I'm personally guilty as charged myself.

We really wanted to love Obama.

Precisely. Any ideas as to why besides "I don't want to be accused of racism for criticizing a black president?"

The way the world collectively shat on Bush admin for the Iraq War and War on Terrorism and then went mum when Obama admin enhanced it is a massive :mindblown I say this as someone who hates Bush too. The world seems to like American imperialism so long as it has a face they like attached to it.

Stinkles gets a  :wow    for once.  He (and most of Era) is defending against smell shaming.

Quote
Not your guy but I used to work with a dude who smelled like a truck crashed into a liquor store if he had even a single cocktail the previous night.

He also had the dankest feet in the world but was like Pigpen from peanuts - his hygiene, laundry, shoes and home life were immaculate and he was a victim of his own odor genes.

On Wednesday evening he'd have one gin and tonic on the plane home and on Thursday morning He'd step out of the shower a gracefully clean young man and put on new shoes and socks and by the time he arrived at work he'd smell like the Untouchables had just trashed an illicit moonshine operation hidden in a limberger and durian cheesecake factory.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/co-worker-showed-up-to-work-smelling-like-a-bar.142146/post-24708566

Maybe if he limited himself to two short paragraphs he would be worth reading?

Also, our favorite self-described game "journalist" is finally going to college.  I smell a sit-com

Quote
I have been lucky enough to break into the IT world without a degree. I've never gone to college aside from a summer program, but I've just applied to a community college and I'm not entirely sure what to expect. I think I'm truly on the path of wanting to teach english as a foreign language in South Korea / France, but I cannot do this without a bachelors degree.

Honestly, I gotta respect his hustle to get that far without even an associates  :trumps  :success

Yeah, I'm defending Michael Moore because he's not a politician, he's a documentarian, and a pretty good one at that.
Have you ever actually watched any of his work, or are you reacting to the conservative reaction?

Not only does he not shy away from criticising the democratic party - such as in Farhenheit 11/9 which is ostensibly about Trump, there is a major section about how betrayed black americans who lived in Flint felt when Obama swept in, gave a speech backing the proven legitimately corrupt administration there, then flew off again - its not his fucking job to be a spokesperson for them in the first place; he is an entertainer, just as much a John Stewart, a Bill Maher or a Steven Colbert is.

And really, if Fox & Friends wanted a Michael Moore as card carrying democrat appearance to attack Obama, maybe they should have criticised actual policy instead of transparently shitty maneuvers about whether or not he was actually american / secretly muslim / trying to dismantle the consitution, or any of the other sly attack vectors that aren't actually worth any form of legitimate response.

e:
Like, I'm not gonna dispute that American politics is insanely partisan and tribalistic, but I don't know why you're using a leftist entertainer as a citation for that premise, especially one who regularly criticises the party he most aligns with politically for failure to adhere to principles.

I have watched his work and saw Fahrenheit 9/11 in theatres. I like his stuff. I'm a fan. I just brought him up because he, like Stewart and Maher, are prominent public Democrats that had the hard gloves for Bush but kid gloves for Obama doing almost the same shit verbatim. Whether it was a bad example or not, I don't think it takes away from my overall point on the double standards applied to Obama's administration by people who are Democratic affiliated.

This was my original post. Michael Moore is just two words in that post. He's not even the bulk of the content.

Democrats are "anti-war" so long it's the other party fucking things up.

Since that fucker has been an Anti-war Democrat since they were 9, they'd remember a time when Democrats like Michael Moore protested the Iraq War while Bush was president but for some reason forgot about it when Obama became president and the war didn't end. They'd make excuses for Obama drones with things like,"oh, but that means American soldiers lives aren't being lost."

Which tells you everything you need to know about American politics: it's a team sport. Not about actual values.

You're just focusing on him to take away from the message of the post. :idont It's a deflection tactic.

It was basically 2 hours of watching a lib get owned  8)

That's also where he declared that if the Democrats again picked a bad candidate like Joe Biden he'd run himself as an independent.

It's about Flint too but mostly the Trump thing obviously and Obama was the most savage of all.

First, he said: "The water is fine" and did a sort of rehearsed bit about how he as a kid would lick paint on walls.
Then months later he send the army there with tanks and choppers for some live fire urban drills.  :lol

The Peace Prize was a joke, and democrats were hypocritical about a lot of things with Obama. But I don't think that's what this is... because I think democrats would have supported Bush doing the same thing as Obama.

After 9/11 Bush had tons of popular support, even from other countries. If his response had been Obama style drone strikes, and especially if he killed Bin Laden like Obama did, he'd be on Mount Rushmore. Not only would it have been politically damaging for democrats to come out against him, I doubt they would have wanted to.

The crazy thing about Bush is that he was bad enough to turn everyone against him despite the initial support. Because instead of saying he was going to drone strike the terrorists that did 9/11, his administration decided to manipulate intelligence, run a campaign to connect Iraq to 9/11, lie about WMDs, to start a war that enriched his friends and got him personal vengeance. And at the same time he was trying to privatize social security, something which went too far even for his own base.

But Gillis didn’t get in trouble for his stand-up — his offensive language and racist comments came on his podcast, which isn’t a honed, developed routine. Podcasts have grown in popularity among comedians, but involve filling hours and hours with off-the-cuff remarks — and in the case of Gillis, filled with racist comments and impressions.

Gillis’ casting was also announced just three weeks prior to the launch of the season in keeping with the show’s habit of making last-minute hiring decisions. This likely contributed to the show not performing a more thorough examination of his past material before announcing he was joining the cast. It also likely precluded anyone from going through the many hours of Gillis’ podcast material that was available before he began scrubbing past episodes from the internet.

Real talk, all the stand up comedians on SNL like Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, etc are going to have a target on their back. People are going to start digging in their past even more than they have.

Edit:

Quote
According to sources, the long-running NBC comedy show and series mastermind Lorne Michaels were actively looking to cast a comedian for its new season who would appeal to more conservative viewers. This was meant to counteract the appearance of a liberal bias on the show, given that it has seen a major resurgence in popularity in recent years with Alec Baldwin regularly portraying President Donald Trump while other cast members and guest stars have played members of his administration and those in his orbit.

Also, how is Gilles supposed to appeal more to conservatives? He's just another White guy from a major city.

This style of humor is entirely based on having the benefit of the doubt.

If a well-known liberal comic said about Chinese restaurants "The translation between you and the waiter is such a fucking hassle, I’m pointing at it" it would still an unfunny way to fill time in a podcast, but other liberals would assume they were being self-deprecating, and that it was really about how dumb they felt pointing at a menu.

And if they said what he does here, it would also be assumed to be self-deprecating. He would have the benefit of the doubt that he knew his previous jokes failed (as he has admitted), so the joke would be creating the mental image of getting fired for them and then immediately repeating them with the death threats as if he still thought they were great jokes.

But since you can tell just by looking at him that he is a Trump voter and probably not smart enough to be self-deprecating, he can't get that benefit of the doubt. Instead it is assumed that he is dead serious, letting people know that they haven't stopped him from doing bad racist jokes, and even though he earlier said they were failures, he secretly thought they were masterpieces.

Would people cancel Gremlins 2 for having a non accent American born Asian playing Asian stereotype while having a Ohio accent?
