Glad you mentioned Nuno. I saw him twice, once with Extreme and then a few months ago on the Generation Axe tour with Vai, Zakk Wylde, Malmsteen, and Tosin Abasi. Absolutely unreal player.

extreme II: pornograffiti is one of the top 5 guitar records of all time. the absolute apex of groove, melody and technicality. i mean i get why they don't get rated because more than words is the only song they made a name for themselves with, and that's just a boring soppy pantie wetter, but nuno should be up in the very top tier in the pantheon of axe gods.

I think he's the greatest pure rock guitar player of all time. He has it all, both insane rythm chops, melody, creativity, memorable riff and song construction, unique, blistering speed, technique, he has it all in spades. And on top of all that, he's a pretty good singer.

Didn’t know les Paul was a metal guitar. Everyone I’ve seen uses Ibanez

good ibanez's have wide, flat, thin necks with great access to the upper frets, high gain pickups as standard and a great tremelo setup, they are custom made for shredding, but to my ear have a much more thin, artificial sound compared to a les paul which sounds like a warhammer when fitted with the right pickups.

i've got an ibanez RG550 and a les paul and the LP is the one i'm running out the burning house with.

I place Dimebag Darrell in that category. A lot of metalheads don't realize how insanely talented he was. I wasn't fortunate enough to see him live, but my friend saw him on tour in Brazil and told me some stories about how Dime came out chugging straight Crown, handed off his liquor cup to some fans, and then proceeded to play every son, every solo note for note. And keep in mind, Pantera js a one guitar band, there is no backing guitar to hide any mistakes. And he had such raw, unbridled energy and power he didn't need any backing.

It's good to see some Nuno love. Being 14 and seeing Kid Ego on MTV made me immediately go out an buy the tape. He became a guitar god to me from that point.

Surprised. I tried a smaller Les Paul last year and I loved it so much. Wonder if that’d be a good metal guitar. Been wanting to get it.

I watched it and didn't like the music. :( It has the drums I don't like. So far I've only tried Dragon Force and from my first tasting, I don't like them.

I feel like Dragon Force is for people born in the late 90's and 2000's.  It's obnoxious and just has no balls and not even the spirit of the original power metal bands. Plus their guitar players are known for utilizing studio trickery to record parts they can't even reproduce live.

I desperately need more metal in the same feel as Holy Diver. Music has never empowered like this before. :( I need more. Went through Rainbow and Dio Sabbath today and I still ended up listening to Holy Diver (lp) back to back to back. I even went out to look for the cd version so I could bask in the visuals, store, notes, pictures, booklet, and lyrics. No luck.

here Cindi, you may not like this band's entire body of work because they probably have "drums you don't like," but this track should be up your alley

Symphony X may up your alley, they are a good mix of prog and power metal with lots of shredding.

i think no-one has mentioned maiden because they're such an omnipresence in metal that it almost seems superfluous.

Agra seems to have everything in check here as far as metal recommendations go (+1 for the katatonia). I'd just like to pitch in with what is probably the best melo-death I've heard in decades.

Basically keep flipping between Holy Diver, Rainbow, Dio Sabbath, Iron Maiden. Going to listen to more Maiden then add some Motörhead.

I have been really getting into the female-fronted 70s revival doom rock thing that's been happening for a while.

Bands like The Riven and Gone Cosmic have really taken up heaps of my listening time over the last couple of years.
