The head of the ICU in Amsterdam has concluded that recently most people admitted to the ICU in Amsterdam with COVID-19 are non-Dutch speakers.
He contacted other hospitals and they see the same trend among their patients.

He argues that
- Government communication does not reach migrant populations and minorities or is hard to understand (the latter is true in general because they are mostly merely suggesting things people should do and a lot of information is contradictory)
- Families from non-Dutch cultural backgrounds often live together with their children, parents or grandparents or are more regularly in close contact with their family compared to Dutch families who often live further apart
- Housing in big cities is often smaller so families packed together in apartment buildings are more at risk

He has called on the government to change their communication strategy beyond the press conferences on the public broadcasting channel and a deaf interpreter
and to try to reach out to local community leaders, religious organizations etc. to help spread awareness and offer more translations.

He notes that his comments could be controversial and he doesn't want to label people but he says that as a scientist he has to share these findings and cannot ignore the statistics.
The government is doing a study on the impact of COVID-19 on different ethnicities but that study won't be concluded until late November at the earliest, which he argues is too late.

In general religious buildings like churches, mosques etc. are still open and just like cultural gathering spots like theaters and community centers they are often exempt from strict regulations.
A recent study shows there is a general distrust in government and institutions among large groups of minorities a sentiment that they ironically enough share with the (far) right.
It seems though that our government has been wrong that the cause of an increase in cases is people returning to restaurants, bars etc. .
Which are currently doing the best job of implementing the regulations but are 'punished' by more strict enforcement every time the cases go up.

No we are at a point where politicians, doctors, professors etc. are figuring out that even if they perfectly live according to the regulations if they don't reach out to the minorities and lower classes the virus will keep spreading.

Comments like yours shut down this discussion. Which is what the government would rather want, than admit that they are ineffective in reaching large groups of people especially in the hardest hit areas.

Medical professionals are really having a hard time getting their messages across, messages they spread based on science, facts and data.
Mostly because of political interference but also because elected officials are unwilling to look at how the virus is spreading as it means answering difficult social-economic and cultural questions.

Our restaurants are great, especially where I live but they doubt they can take another financial hit after such a shitty year. Most bars and restaurants were already on the brink of bankruptcy after the first lockdown.
Ah well, this fucking sucks and they're hardly the cause of the infections but our government loves symbolic measures. Hopefully they spend tons to keep all those businesses afloat now that the interest rates are low.

The March elections are going to be fun because we had to pay those huge sums of COVID aid 'in solidarity' with the Italians and Spanish while our country is now the hardest hit of all and our government has cut government healthcare spending for years.

Our PM says that it was difficult from a legal standpoint but he has grown tired of the discussions.
He wants the discussion to focus on how to fight the virus instead of individual measures that people may or may not agree with.

He hopes that this offers clarity and he will get to work to make it into law.

Ontario is clearly testing fewer people. The backlog has gone from over 80k to under 27k in a week while the tests processed per day hasn’t gone up. Also the test positivity rate is over 2% for at least the second day in a row.

It's not back to a complete lockdown, I think they don't want to fuck with non-service jobs anymore, but we'll see, it will be more restrictive than now (bars in some major cities have been closed a few days back).

I've been able to get tested fairly easily right now, like wait 5 minutes in car and drive thru, test myself with a nose swap, and I sneezed both times. So I think I put it in far enough to get anything.

Last test was a 24 hour turn around, hopefully the same and I test negative again. I think I'll try to test myself around 2 or 3 weeks now that I'm going back into work regularly.
