There won't be a vaccine for the entire planet, that's nonsense and simply a carrot they're dangling in front of the normies.
We can't even give everyone a flu shot and that's something we've tried for decades.
How COVID will realistically play out after this 'second wave'.

- Masks and air filters will be more common in the EU/USA like in Asia
- Lots of people will continue to work from home
- Quarantine with any flu-like symptoms will be mandatory or highly recommended
- Select vulnerable groups will be vaccinated seasonally, probably at the end of the summer (much like the flu)
- For flights/rallies/events/concerts etc. there will be quick mandatory tests at the entrances outside
- More registration of movement (like how restaurant visits are being registered and contact tracing apps)
- Like we have the GDPR officers for companies now, the EU will introduce mandatory hygiene or disease/medical officers for companies
- People will gradually move out of cities back to the country side
- Automation will continue to pick up pace

Humans have to adapt, which many of us are perfectly capable of doing but we'll have to give up some freedom and personal data.
Which we'll never get back as these sort of measures will curb this virus and other current and future viruses.

I think it is unlikely because there is no selection pressure for SARS-CoV-2 to become less deadly--most people die from COVID when they're no longer contagious. In other words, a less-deadly version would not really spread to more hosts than the more-deadly version. Also, SARS-CoV-2 appears to have fewer mutations per year than the flu.

More likely explanations:
Better standard of care.
Less spread in long term care homes.
Lower viral load because of masks--lower exposure to a virus is usually associated with relatively mild disease and a better early outcome. This was shown in SARS.

Back in April through July I literally knew nobody that had Covid or even knew of others that knew others. It would come up in conversation all the time.  Now it's all over. Coworkers, friends of family, teachers, coaches, etc.

It is so surreal to see people (around me) give less of a shit while it's getting worse than ever.  I guess this is what "living with covid" is going to look like from here on out.
