It certainly is, but there's another big non-COVID related scandal that has tainted this government beyond repair.
Word from The Hague is that they will resign next week over that other scandal to cover up this COVID scandal.

Our health minister basically set himself on fire because early this month he announced he wasn't going to run in the next election as party leader for the Christian Democrats because he wanted to focus on the COVID pandemic.
But then over the last 2 weeks he has given about a dozen interviews. He got the job because the previous health minister literally collapsed during a parliamentary debate.
Now it turns out that this new guy can't do anything right and there were some leaks already of other government officials involved in the COVID crisis calling his ideas 'moronic'.

I don't think he's a bad person, he's just in over his head. He used to be a school teacher, became a civil servant and eventually moved up the ranks within his party (mostly because of his looks, social skills and local politics).
He's not going to be the guy that's going to pressure people to stay over during the weekends or fire those that fail. Considering his family first approach I highly doubt he does any overtime himself.
Which is probably why he circles back on Monday, because he's not working during the weekends.
Our PM is cunning, I think that he knew that this whole thing would blow up anyway after they initially botched their 'herd immunity' approach. They've fallen behind ever since and all the healthcare cuts he enacted during his 3 terms have now bit him in the ass.
My guess is that he picked poor Hugo because he knew that it wouldn't matter who would lead this response as long as they had some political experience and he was the easiest scapegoat.

I don't think our PM expected Hugo to say things like: "The German vaccination program is only symbolic and great for the cameras, we're starting later because we want to be more thorough and efficient"
The official story from the government is that local doctors were supposed to distribute the vaccine but the packages are too large (1000 vials each) and because Pfizer refuses to deliver smaller packaging they can't store them.
Plus, they had anticipated that another vaccine would be approved quicker that required less elaborate storing facilities. So now the plan is to only inject nursing home staff and other very specific groups and then wait for that other vaccine.
Meanwhile we have about 100k sitting in storage (and more arriving daily) unused. The head of ICU planning is so furious that he said that if they don't start vaccinations of hospital staff on Monday he will personally come and take them.
And while every second counts, the government says that it doesn't matter if we start now or in 2 weeks or a month.

The Germans have admitted than they couldn't vaccinate a million people like they wanted and they have logistical problems too but they're nearing the 100k mark, which means they've already saved a significant number of lives.

UK is going to open the schools on Monday but will likely introduce more strict measures.
The NHS did however clear the AstraZenica vaccine for use and will be the first in the world to administer it to the population.

It is expected that after tuesday Germany will extend the lockdown that was supposed to end January 10th to January 31st.

Our government released their vaccination strategy.
Looks like the bulk will be distributed between May - September.
They expect that everyone who needs a shot gets one before Q4 2021.

At this time they're not planning to vaccinate anyone younger than 18.

Silver living: three travelled or had close contact with someone who traveled outside the country.

Canada is at 0.31% with one vaccine dose (Israel at 14.1%). We should be good by 2031.

Lots of folks are worried about testing, but it's not as exciting or scary as it sounds.
I mostly blame the media because whenever they air something about testing you see B-roll footage of hospitals and whatnot.
They just swab twice and it's done it takes like 10 seconds.

Today:

- The first Dutch baby died of COVID, although it had other health issues too
- Our government regrets their mistakes with the vaccination strategy
- Health Minister calls making mistakes "part of the job" won't resign as of yet
- Hospitals sued the government for refusing to fund additional ICU beds
- Lockdown has no 'measurable' effect as of yet, cases above 10k again
- PM Rutte agrees with opposition leader Wilders that every jab counts and the sooner we start vaccinating the better
but he doesn't share the view that delaying vaccination by 2 weeks has or will ultimately lead to more deaths

- PM is not hopeful that lockdown can be lifted after January 19th

Can't blame them if all we do is keep them on storage. By now we have 300k vaccines waiting for use.

Tommorow the first vaccine will be administered to a nursing home worker.
