Personally one of my favorite metal records of the decade came out in 2005. I'm mostly making a blanket statement cause I look back at the era with ire.

Coming out of say the 2004-06 window were tons of peaks of bands for me: Head Automatica, Death from Above 1979, Coheed and Cambria, Thursday, AFI/Blaqk Audio, Alexisonfire, The Hush Sound, Brand New, Saves The Day, +44, Haste The Day, feels like there were a good number more in the next two tiers or so too, compared to the years after where it seemed more like one or two releases a year, whereas that span was like every month to me

It's kinda easy to pick on the TRL era of rock of that time cause the industry was still more than happy to push guitar and drum based rock outfits into the mainstream. Now that just doesn't happen on that level and you only find that on your local alt rock station unless you seek it out on Spotify or whatever. That same "shit" is still alive and well, just not as visible as it was at one point.

Stuff you can avoid today, but were unable to avoid back then. Like the only band that somehow seems to find its way to me somehow someway is Five Finger Death Punch. If the industry was still in a similar spot that it was in around the turn of the millennium I would have to deal with like 15 more similar bands on the regular. But nowadays it's very easy for me to filter that out. I almost can't run into it unless I do turn on the local alt-rock or rock radio station. I have no car or radio though, so I don't.

Edit:
I guess my main point is that for lot of us we were pre teens to young adults during the 98 - 07 period so we can really remember vividly EVERYTHING that was being pushed on us musically. As opposed to not really remembering the earlier 90s or 80s. I'm sure someone who was at the teenage age during those eras could also remember all that lows during that time period that history has forgotten to time and kids born from 2000 and on won't even ever hear or have any idea of beyond a footnote at most.

I know I'm a stuck-in-his-ways old man, and I don't really follow rock all that much, but it really feels like the genre is in a serious lull. Like, apart from Imagine Dragons and Walk The Moon, I can't recall too many artists from the 10's that became sensations, while rock was dominant from the early 2000s back till like the 60s. Being a white guy in his 30s I've gotten lots of people who think I'm a big classic/alternative rock guy and they're usually pretty confused when I tell them what I listen to But nowadays, I know very few gen Z people who are into the genre, and even my friends in their late 30s listen to the same rock bands they listened to in the 90s, early 2000s, not really keeping in touch with the new and up-and-coming rock bands.

I liked the indie rock that was experimenting with synths that was slightly popular for a time in the nascent hipster scene of the mid 2000s - LCD Soundsystem, The Killers, The Rapture, but that was the last time I really followed the genre.

I think you'll find this is not a cultural constant. Most Asian countries I've lived in people eat at the dinner table, not talk.

The "point" of eating together is because it's economical to cook one large batch of food for a family instead of a half-dozen individual meals.

JJ Abrams completely avoids acknowledging the prequels, he tried his best to ignore them to the point of even removing Anakin's pod racing flag from Maz's castle between the trailer and the final product.

I view Snoke the same way I view Ansem and Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts. Part of a larger whole who eventually learned to be self-sufficient and began to have their own desires while ultimately still fulfilling the want of their true persona.

I stick by my theory that 1997-2007 was the worst modern period for music whether you were into rock or hiphop, be it underground or mainstream, most of it was godawful.

There's still some good like there is every era but jesus christ the lows were low and it felt like there was an insane dearth when it came to quality music.

Still a little confused at the "privilege" thing.
Some folks might pass on it because it's improductive (which it is often).
Some even might not be pushing back because it might actually be detrimental and dangerous in a very basic material sense.
I guess you could call that "cowardice" if you're big on principles but that's not the same thing as privilege.

She lives in Hilton Head and will DEFINITELY die from Covid 19 if she gets it) for the first time last week. I have yet to apologize. She's MAGA Nation and I stand by it. "You think I'm happy that you're stupid? I have to hope I haven't passed any of that shit on to my son!"
