Extremely cool. I've honestly started having some really dark thoughts today that I haven't had in a long while. And, frankly, I think they're justified.

Like I don't think Era really appreciates how damaging it is to not have a single year of your adult life without Brexit and Trump. To not have a single 'rock' to live for because you don't have a single part of adulthood accounted for. To work a dead-end job with a bunch of kids after 3 years of doing a degree you probably shouldn't have done anyway, and to have to be fucking grateful for it because millions are doing so much worse. To have to wonder if one of the two people you actually love in this world might die choking and scared in a crowded hospital bed because of a virus. To not even be able to go watch your pretentious art films in the arthouse cinema because that might kill people and they'll be closing soon anyway. To have your fucking closest family members betray you in the worst ways possible over the most petty fucking bullshit imaginable, and to have the one friend you actually have start sucking off Trump out of nowhere. To have fucking millenials with jobs and apartments and partners posting meaningless goddamn platitudes of 'it'll be OK' as if they are in anywhere near the same position. To not even realise a fundamental part of your identity until your most social period of your life is far behind you because your sexuality (or lack thereof) is more obscure than most fucking memes. Then, on top of all that, to have climate change and complete societal collapse staring you in the face like a tiger waiting to pounce on its prey, making any efforts to actually obtain anything good as pointless as retirement. Oh, and to have people say that it isn't so bad as if we aren't hurtling towards a Blue Ocean Event and the eradication of the Amazon before the fucking Playstation 6 is out.

That kind of shit can't be fixed with a "STFU with the doomposting!" or any condescending bullshit like that. It just can't. Sometimes you need to see actual results before you can believe in anything. Because, frankly, asking me to believe in hope or any good in this world is like asking me to believe in Santa Claus again. It's not going to happen. It's gone. For good. Fucking good bye, hope.

I'm done. I can't rely on anything but myself anymore because everything I love is going to die or betray and everything I hope to be good will turn out bad. I think we may need to acknowledge (even more than liberals usually do) that minorities are NOT a monolith. Their circumstances in life and where they live affect their voting same as everyone else. I think that people who managed to immigrate successfully may have a different perspective than those who are almost permanently locked out, for example. People who got to that nice neighborhood may vote differently than those who can't escape. So on and so forth. And that's before we get to the typical "rich people are just a different class" thing that I think we're all guilty of.

This isn't blaming any specific groups, but I think we absolutely NEED to consider where people are in life before just saying "BLACK, HISPANIC, DEMOCRAT," and I think that's something AOC was warning about a month or so ago (with regards to PR being a "Dem" state if it were accepted). Thoughts, opinions, beliefs, experiences?

Because Harry Enten with Fivethirtyeight.com and Steven Shephard with Politico have both done actual research to prove this is not true.

The problem with 2016 polls was a lack of turnout among moderates and minorities. Moderate independents had previously been trending D due to the GOP's run to the right. Those people stayed home in large numbers. Meanwhile polling models were built around Clinton seeing similar minority participation to Barack Obama, which was an inherently flawed assessment that was most erroneous in toss up states.

The only larger scale polling variable is a potential Bradley Effect against Clinton for being a woman, but even that doesn't hold up particularly well.

Trump, Bannon, etc. all told us exactly what they were doing and exactly how they won in 2016, multiple times. They made the entire election distasteful to the majority of Americans to where large numbers of moderates who didn't like either candidate but had been breaking D stayed home while riling up the furthest fringes of the right wing. Simple as that.

They can't get mud to stick on Biden, moderates are all-in for the guy, and minority voter turnouts in swing states are breaking records right now.

It is not 2016. Stop falling for the horse race narrative. The election isn't a lock because the Electoral College is an inherently flawed, anti-democratic system but it isn't because polls are lying to us. Its because a handful of swing states are still within the MoE even if barely so, and should be taken with caution as a result, especially when you consider GOP disenfranchisement tactics coming into play.

Also stop listening to Michael Moore. He's the walking embodiment of left wing "truthiness". He doesn't work on facts, he works on what he feels. A good example of this is his frequent appearances on Bill Maher's show. Maher is an overt islamophobe who has made enough "jokes" at the expense of the black and LGBTQ communities in even the recent past for the question on if he's a bigot to be put well to rest, he clearly is. Yet Moore chooses to peddle his own personal views on there with regularity while claiming to be part of a progressive left movement.

The "bernie bro" caricature persists because of the extremely front and center people like Michael Moore who embody all the negative connotations meant by it in describing progressive white men.
