So my mom was late to thanksgiving today because she "had something important to do", and she shows up almost an hour late.

She starts telling this story about how the DEA called her and that her identity was stolen by drug traffickers, and they needed to track her money so she had to buy gift cards and give them the cards and then she would get her money back. Of course, the second she says "gift card" I throw "DEA gift card" into google, and of course it's nothing but scam information.

She's really upset. She gave them over 2k dollars, and we've been needing help because of Covid and that money included my rent. They threatened her and told her not to tell anyone so she was being really cagey this morning when I was trying to figure out when she was showing up for dinner. If she had just called me this whole thing could have been avoided.

I'm just really upset, because she's usually so good about avoiding this shit, but she swears this was just so convincing.

I've seen those complaints about the editing, and I disagree. I've spent fifteen years training weapons fighting, and the saber fights in TFA and TLJ (TROS far less so) had a satisfying weight and sense of contact that worked for me in a way that some of the combat on other shows and movies hasn't. Do lots of research (like when you think you researched enough you do a little bit more research) and then ask for some (aka not just one) person of the group to read and learn to take an advice even if it sounds personal to you.

I'd recommend research and get someone of that culture and identity to proof read and give suggestions and alterations, writing is a collaborative art. If you have someone making sure what you're writing is accurate I don't see why not. But you need someone who has that insight to make sure. Obviously credit them at the front of your book.

Let's talk about crunch for a bit.

This is an issue that happens in multiple industries, and I'm sure there are countless ResetEra members who have suffered from it in one way or another. It can happen because of bad management, tight schedule, exploitation of "passion," or a combination of multiple factors. If you look at different studios that crunch, they all share the same problems. This means we can only do so much with it; we can make noise, discuss, maybe even boycott, but our options are very limited as outsiders.

Transphobia is a much larger issue. Don't get me wrong. Crunch is a severe problem and needs to be discussed. But it's limited to work environments. Transphobia transcends that, as we've seen in this own forum. There are Cyberpunk 2077 fans who don't care about transphobic content in the game and behavior from CDPR, as long as they have fun. There were users banned due to transphobic behavior as well. It shows an issue that goes beyond the company itself, but into society. One that we actively can fight against. In this case, our options aren't as limited, because we can reach people directly and call them out.

Hopefully, we can discuss more about crunch at some point. But we should always support the trans community, even after this thread is unpinned.
