This is already shaping up to be the worst generation ever. Scalpers, shortages, high prices, $70 games, and miners (on the PC side).

This seems extremely hyperbolic, at least with regards to the PS5.

Scalpers - something that happens every generation with desired consoles. Research has also shown that it's a small minority of consoles sold.

Shortages - PS5 has so far produced around the same amount of consoles as they did with PS4, if not more. It's just so popular that they are getting sold out instantly.

High prices - you can get a PS5 DE for £350 and the disc version is £450. That means you can get a PS5, which is a much stronger console than PS4, for the same price as the PS4 released at.

This seems to be a complete misunderstanding. The video in the OP has 34k views, was released a month ago and the channel name is different from the OPs. The only implication of self promotion is that he said "just finished this great essay" by which he likely means he finished watching the video which is freaking 3 and a half hours long. Detective B-dubs didn't even do the minimal amount of checking before locking the thread .

Of course there's also the question why "self promotion" is even that bad.

Talks up the old platforming/climbing/tightrope segments to highlight 2018's lack of a jump button. Yet those segments are easily the weak link of the series. The Uncharted series is actually the best in the business at the type of cinematic platforming that would really work for the OG GoW games.

Skimmed through bits of the video, and the guy's making false points like these and intentionally playing the game with no imagination to make it look bad. Meh.

He doesn't like the change, and that's fine. As a big fan of the series myself, I wasn't really feeling what I was playing early on either. But eventually it clicked.

The combat is shit and there is no reason to perform well. You get the same XP no matter what. Boy is a little bitch. The game is garbage. Yeah, it looks pretty. Beauty is only skin deep.

Also, his videos on Doom Eternal are fantastic and really show how the games systems work. The old GoW games have great systems. The new one is trash with boring systems, boring enemies, boring puzzles, boring story, bloated inventory/loot. Fuck GoW 2018. Cookie-cutter shit. And he put in well over a hundred hours, so not like he just dismissed it.

There's never been much incentive to perform well in any of the games though. It's not Devil May Cry. Never had a grade system or anything, and you could max out Kratos in a playthrough regardless of whether you'd rack up combos or not.

2018 takes the tank approach. Embracing the idea that Kratos is old and washed in terms of mobility. Now he's gone full brute, old man strength. Pretty sure the combat takes inspiration from the Souls games, but with a AAA boost. Action oriented, tighter controls, and better animation with God of War flavored violence. It works. Playing the challenge realms and the Valkyries are a must to fully grasp the combat. You absolutely have to perform to get through those.

But anyway, let's get back to dunking on REEE takes.
