I actually really enjoyed Pinball, and thought Peach Beach Splash was alright, but they weren't substitutes for the real stuff. I did hear that Sony had applied some pressure, but as you say, I think that just resulted in changes to the dressing room stuff (which is probably still in there hidden behind an awkward button combo if the Switch games are anything to go by).

I liked Peachball too.  Needed more tables though.  You can look at that and see that nothing is any different than the other games.  It didn't get released on a Sony platform and it's still the same content.

Oh, there were definitely casualties.  I've heard second hand stories from people at the site I used to write for about Sony's treatment of smaller Japanese and VN devs.  But people are adapting.  Sony isn't as important as it used to be for Japan, and both Nintendo and Steam have benefitted.  We're probably never getting Senran Kagura back, but other things will take its place.

Never would have thought that Sony would essentially become Nintendo in the early-mid 90s and Nintendo would allow for just about anything on their console, but here we are. 

Regarding Senran, I would argue that the game quality going downhill and bomba releases like Kandagawa Jet Girls are what led to the decline with those games.  The studio head and main producer leaving to go work at Cygames, too.

The producer outright said that the series was maimed by Sony, he was already out of Marvelous when the Jet Girls game was in development (And the game was designed as the new Sony policies were in place).

Probably because the PS games were more successful (if the characters popularity is anything to go by). The PS games introduced a lot of character that overtook in popularity to other main characters (they even joke about it in Estival Versus, were the main heroine complains she is now second fiddle).

Not related to the current conversation, but my fiance has been playing FFX HD and we've been poking fun at all the male gaze angles and absurdly skimpy clothing on the women npcs. Every time another woman summoner shows up in a cutscene, the camera will change position to her backside to show off their ass. A lot of the early cutscenes with Lulu zoom in on her boobs. When you meet Yunalesca, she's clad in a bikini and, you guessed it, the camera switches to a pan up from the backside of her ass. It's like they made every other woman besides Yuna sexualized to contrast her being the good innocent girl or something. Both her father Braska and the other male summoner Isamu are both fully robed.
