Honestly he shouldn't have gotten them taken away in the first place and his thread shouldn't have gotten closed. From what I see there are absolutely no rules that state you can't post about this in other parts of the forum. That's abusing mod powers unless I'm missing something.

He requested account closure after finding that he couldn't be a martyr and destroy his community resources before nuking his account after spending the entire thread being very hostile to staff and then making a reaction thread that got promptly locked for trying to escalate the issue while being utterly convinced the only reason why everyone else on the site isn't mad is because this thread is being purposefully hidden (and his thread privileges temporarily locked to de-escalate, which is nothing new and there's been a history of people immediately trying to escalate their issues by making tons of freakout reaction threads whenever there's an issue with ERA), instead of simply requesting for them to be removed from his name and then his account closed.

There's ways to voice your displeasure and desire for things to be better, and he chose to pour gasoline on the fire because he couldn't accept that everyone else wasn't as mad as he was. While all the follow-ups by staff in this thread could have been summarized better at the time, it was still an ongoing conversation, and his own blowup overshadowed any legitimate points he may have had.

I genuinely know fuck all about this I’m just interested because it seems a little low. Especially given the site routinely has had more guests than users the past week or so.

I don't know if that number is inflated or not either but it seems reasonable given ERA is (despite some of y'all's misgivings) a reliable and often cited source of new video game news and reviews.

I made fun of the 4.5m price tag because it's fun to make fun of ERA but leveraging this forum properly could yield much more revenue per year than the 700k cited, with the caveat that leveraging it properly could drive away a small fraction of it's hardcore userbase.

It's an apples to oranges comparison, but if you compare the views at any given time to stream views on Twitch and look at how much some top streamers are making per view and per subscriber you can start to imagine how much value advertisers place on reliable views within different content consumption models.

It absolutely is. In some lights, that makes it less of a game, but it certainly doesn't take away from your ability to enjoy it. I just think telling the user to "Take the L" because their description of the game was wrong when, in fact, it is apt, is kind of rude.

for something like Steam / PSN / XBL where you'd expect people to be sticking around doing stuff for awhile, current users times 10-12 is probably ballpark total users.

for something like a news site people will check daily then leave, something like current users time 25 would be ballpark total users.
