The reviewer for Edge dared to call Aloy annoying and the fact the plot of the game always has her being right about something, REEEE handling it as well as you’d expect
I love Aloy. I guess some people really have issues with her sassy behavior towards all the mansplainers and haters around her. I wonder if she was a male character, would people call her annoying.
People are always calling out annoying male characters, but sure Jan.
Gamers think Starlord is cool and his dialogue is good. That should tell you all you need to know.
The Guardians of the Galaxy game got wall to wall praise for the dialogue and banter between the crew, some even saying they loved it more than the MCU version of the crew. Star lord in the game also comes off as more of a leader type while still managing to be his goofy self. But again, sure Jan. What do the gamers (same ones playing and enjoying Horizon, mind you) really know?
I only played the first Horizon game for a few hours, but the writing was god awful in general and Aloy is one of the dumbest, most self-righteous and annoying characters I've ever seen. Which would be fine, if it was on purpose, for character development, but it clearly wasn't. The first facepalm moment was when you talk to the envoy after the ritual early on, where she's all "why is your god male, why can't you have a queen, das sexist!" - right after their three matriarchs were praying to their goddess. The envoy could have just asked back why they don't have any patriarchs, but that wouldn't fit the hack writer's 'checkmate, patriarchy' narrative. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the early sidequest with the hermit locked up in his shed was even dumber. It was pure luck that she showed up in time, dude normally doesn't get visitors and could have easily died from dehydration or starvation. On top of that, his shit was stolen, and Aloy didn't know who stole it or why at this point (not that it even matters), yet she's all "you're a greedy asshole, don't be a baby, it's your own fault you got robbed'. Because the robbers are good guys, they needed the shit. The writer obviously knew, it's their story, but they somehow didn't get that Aloy couldn't have known. I have no idea how that crap made it past QA. But then again, barely any reviewer or player noticed, either...
