Maybe people shouldn't come across to judge people on spelling as a measurement of intelligence?

People online tend to use it as an easy strike against people as a lack of intelligence, when they may have issues or English isn't their first language. It seems an easy and low blow you know?

It seems that there seems to be a large dividing line between those who have perfect grasp on English spelling and grammar and "uneducated peasants" that can't.

I know I'm coming across as just angry at just people here, and people may see this as petty, but I've been dealing with this shit all my life and I've had enough. I really try my hardest to try and not make mistakes, lord knows all the emotional brow beating as a child over spelling and grammar difficulties back when I went to school. it just seems that when you slip up that's all you're judged on, and it suuuuucks.

It's not the gist or content of one's argument that you're judged on but if you have a perfect grasp on the English language and that's how one's intelligence and character is judged. God knows how it must be like for non native English speakers that make mistakes.

Like I get the trope of the "dumb racist" who doesn't know the difference between, there, their and they're but it just feels everyone now just lumps people who don't have the greatest grasp on the English language as dumb hicks.

I'm pretty impatient when it comes to the very beginning of a game, I like to "feel" a game. After that the game can throw me as much cutscenes as it wants.

If the cutscenes and story are interesting it can help me be more patient but often time it's just "can you let me play this already?"

I've skipped cutscenes, played the first level of a game, and then youtube'd the video I skipped. This of course completely depends on what game this is, with some games I don't mind and with some I do.

Yeah, basically.  I don't have a super strong interest in this particular case, other than a general sense that resorting to violence over squabbles or using terms like 'verbal violence' to give yourself a free excuse to hurt someone over words sets a bad precedent that will make it impossible to live decently in a civil society.  No normal person wants to live in a society where this kind of behavior is acceptable.   As bad as it is to be annoyed, you just can't go down this road where you're allowed to start hitting people over words.   It's not that anyone is particularly sympathetic to the guy that was beaten up by Tyson, it's that Tyson had other options before resorting to beating someone up for being annoyed, and Ree thinks it's racist for Tyson to try and use his emotional labor to explore those options because it always falls on the black person to exercise restraint.  He simply had no other choice but to resort to violence at the slightest provocation.  It's racist as fuck, and if I were black I'd feel insulted.

No, you fucking aren't. Turtles should live for at least a decade or two (mine is over 20 years). The diamondback terrapin that you are considering could outlive you if lucky and well taken care of. When you get a reptile, you are looking at a possible lifetime commitment.

Seems like the only functional political constituency GLOBALLY is this one. Alienation and disenchantment is tying everyone together in many ideological groups (particularly in the whole right and at the furthest left). There's got to be a meaningful way to defang and defuse this so that normal political operation could occur without the threat of society being held hostage.

Hey everyone.

I hope you enjoy NeoGAF as much as I do. Our community has made it through a lot over the years. We had a rough patch a while back, but were able to rebuild, and it’s a fun and lively place again, focusing on the games, with a common sense guiding principle.

I’ve been here for over 22 years and counting, and I’d like to continue running NeoGAF for many more years to come. But there’s an ongoing problem: the powers that be changed their algorithm some time ago and we lost upwards of 90% of our ad revenue for an identical amount of traffic. It’s always been tough to monetize forums, but right now is about as tough as it’s ever been for GAF since we have a huge post history that requires a lot of server power to keep it all integrated, as well as a lot of traffic that takes up resources every month without much coming back in.

As a result of the ad revenue issues it’s become a challenge to maintain the site, I’ve had to slow down active development and pursue other avenues professionally as well. It’s also not viable to compensate our dev team properly without revenue coming in, so I’ve paused many of our internal operations. You’ve probably noticed that the momentum we had with all the new features and improvements has slowed, and some existing features have stopped working outright. Now you know why.

This whole development purgatory is really not my preference. I’d rather focus my attention primarily on GAF and continue building it back up, keep it a great place to hang out and talk about the latest gaming and industry news, and get back to actively developing it.

It’s a predicament. Are you guys and gals open to supporting NeoGAF a bit more actively? We have a lot of users, but most people adblock and only a tiny fraction of members get Gold subs. We could put up some affiliate links that would support the site without an out of pocket cost, if they would be utilized by our members. And I’m open to discussing any other options as well.

NeoGAF has always been independent, and over the past two decades I’ve shrugged off the many attempts by publishers and big corporations to control the site via their acquisition offers and other deals. But with that stubborn neutrality and independence comes a different set of challenges, like the one we’re currently facing. To keep moving forward we’ll need to construct some additional pylons.
