Rented this to watch with my friends and we absolutely hated it. We just kinda tuned out after about 20 minutes and scrolled TikTok, Insta and Grindr because it was immediately more relevant and interesting to our lives than this movie. I thought with it being so popular it was unlikely my $20 would be wasted but Jesus that was terrible. I wanted to go in virgin so I hadn’t watched any trailers and just trusted the public’s obsession with it. We quit 30 minutes in because of the dialogue cliches, no apparently interesting antagonist, the boring and annoying cishet white majority cast of people doing military propaganda and rah-rah dogfighting and piloting that, while it’s visually nice, gets old after a few minutes. We just shook our heads and understood that the mainstream cishet audiences that like things like this and Fast & Furious are just not me and my friends and that’s okay, but I doubt I’ll listen to a hype machine about a Tom Cruise movie ever again.

Please tell me this is satire.

No it’s not. I haven’t hated a movie recently as much as this and I’m bitter about the $20 I spent on it.

You didn’t read. My group and I watched social media apps AFTER 20 min. I’m not obligated to give a shitty movie any more of my time or interest than 20 minutes. The first 20 minutes was dumb aviation bro talk and camaraderie and flying loop-de-loops: boring. I deemed it boring and found my phone more interesting after 20 minutes. Says a lot about you honestly that you were so irritated that I did this that you came in here to think I deserve being “dismissed” because I didn’t worship this movie for almost 2 hours.

I'm not irritated about shit. Love it, hate it, whatever. Thats all good. But to say you second screened it and quit after 30 minutes though? I'm not interested in your critique of this or any movie if that's the circumstances in which it is viewed.

Yes there were. Scenes from cockpits of them going on some kind of mission in planes. Whether that was exactly 20 min or not, I didn’t time it and I forget the details. It was all such generic military lingo.

Did you watch the movie in reverse? There was no mission until the 3rd act.

I wanted to ask something here, rather than de-rail a thread in the gaming section. What do people feel the ethical implications of supporting Russian game development are within the context of this war? Asking in good faith, I just want make the right choices partially for my own sanity/conscience and don't want to feed into anything that ends up hurting people where possible.

A slight tangent, but I also just feel a bit off buying a game made almost entirely by white men. I imagine it's very hard to get into games as a woman in Russia but it doesn't make me feel altogether comfortable with it all the same. I can't imagine the opportunities are great their for other marginalized groups either, so I'd rather spend money elsewhere.

I mean... the gist of her argument is that social mores have changed so that women are more likely to fuck you on a first date in [CURRENT_YEAR] than they were in the 50s, which is true, and somebody who doesn't want to fuck a dude within three dates or whatever is going to find it harder to date because theres plenty of women that will fuck that they're competing against. Which is also true.
The theory expands on that to say that womens sexual freedom isn't really womens sexual freedom, if your choice to not fuck is effectively the losing move in a Prisoners Dilemma.

It's honestly nowhere close to Matt Berry's best work. One of the things I noticed about the show the last time I revisited it several years ago is HOW MUCH it relies on the laugh track to tell the audience what Linehan thinks SHOULD be funny, instead of letting any jokes just be funny on their own. It's so hard to watch shows with a laugh track nowadays. I don't know how people managed when that shit was the norm.

The audience has spoken, they want Nolan, they want Peele, they want Cruise, they want Chapelle and shows about knights, dragons and titties.
They don't want John Oliver 'comedy' or a lesson in racism acted out on the big screen for 2 hours (unless Tarantino directs it).

Who knows, with more effort their diverse and inclusive content might've been received better but most of it just didn't work.
I think it's better for those creators to go where their audience is (YouTube?), improve their skills and come back swinging when people grow tired of the Maverick clones again.

It's also more about the type of movie than the skin color or whatever, Tenet did great and so did many other things with a POC in the lead.
But Tenet wouldn't have done great if it was a biopic about a black watchmaker from Texas who struggled with his student debt because of a right wing politician named Todd Crez.
The bad ass time traveling secret agent thing and car chases, apparently have something to do with the positive reception
They had a real shot to make cool things with their infinite budgets but instead they made... well, things no one can even remember.

After years of remaining silent I emerge from my hole and make one innocent thread about the time I tried to wash a 10 year old boy.

When my wife and I moved to our new home it was great except for the fact that many of our kids’ friends were now far away so we’d bring them over to our house so they could play and have sleep overs…whatever.

One time I picked up their friend Devon and I don’t know what the fuck he got himself into but the boy smelled like diaper full of Indian food. Absolutely rotten. I was driving back to my house with my head out the window like I was Ace Ventura.

Once we get home I immediately call my wife, who was at work, and she tells me to take Devon upstairs, give him a shower, and let him borrow my son’s clothes while I wash his. So, ok, without even really thinking about it I ask Devon to come upstairs into our room and once he was there I asked him if he’d like to take a shower. As soon as that came out of my mouth I start thinking ‘what the fuck did I just do?’ He started to panic, I started to panic…..fun times were had by all.

So I made a thread about it. Titled it “The first (and last) time I tried to wash a 10 year old boy”

I thought I was doing everyone over there a solid about making them aware of the dangers of washing the neighbor’s kid. I’m sure one or two of them thought about it before.

Anyway, someone accused me of being from kiwifarms and I’ve been banned for life.

So coming on the heals of making a thread about me being too dumb to operate a shower, here’s a time I unfortunately had the knowledge, capability, and access to use one.

Several years ago my wife and I bought a new home which was great. Better neighborhood, better school district for our kids, more room for animals, etc. Really the only downfall was moving away from all of our boys’ friends they had in the old place. So for awhile we would accommodate and they’d come over to play or have sleepovers or what have you. Normally my wife and I would go and pick them up ourselves and bring them back home later. It was just a normal, regular thing.

Well one day I went to pick up one of their friends, 10 year old Devon. I’ve always kinda felt bad for Devon because his family situation wasn’t the best and we just wanted to help the kid out. However that particular day when Devon got in my car, the smell that was coming off that kid was next level. Like he smelled like he was wearing a suit made out of dog shit. He was a bio weapon. I was driving back to my house while sticking my head out the window like I was Ace Ventura.

So when we get home I immediately go upstairs and call my wife, who was at work at the time. I tell my wife about Devon and she tells me to have him take a shower and wash his clothes. He could borrow some of the boys’ clothes while they wash. Not even thinking about the ramifications of it all I agreed and then asked Devon to come upstairs to the master bedroom. I didn’t want to embarrass him in front of the other kids so I thought if I brought him in my bedroom and close the door we could do this in private.

Once he’s there, I just said to him “Hey Devon, you want to take a shower? I can take your clothes.” He immediately had a look of sheer terror and then I realized what the hell I just said. In a complete panic I then said some nonsense that I thought he’d like it…… I mean I don’t know what the hell I was thinking. He started to cry and I had to tell him that he just kind of stunk and that the only reason why I asked. I was in non-stop apology mode. He never did take that shower

Devon never came back to our house. Not because he wasn’t invited, just because, well, you know. I’m an idiot.


Lesson learned. Don’t wash 10 year old boys.

"Problem" is studios release more movies these days, so instead of 30 good and 30 bad movies a year that you can maybe wrap your head around, there's 3000 good and 3000 bad. The people who just want to talk about bad movies will never run out of content, even if they only stick to contemporary films.

For example, Linus Tech Tips does have a lot of women & Asian folks on their staff (they had a non-binary employee before they left last December for undisclosed reasons). But as of now, there aren't any Black employees.

Okay, can somebody that knows more about streaming can explain to me why this is stupid? Sounds reasonable as is not exactly video games or TV to get money regardless of viewer/player engagement. If people a lot of people saw only the first episode of Resident Evil, realize is shit and not even bother to finish, why does Netflix needs to greenlight another season when people will probably see anything else?

I get that the series was trash, but this once again encourages me to not invest my time in any new Netflix series unless it's pulling Squid Game, Arcane, or Stranger Things type of numbers.

Man, is like those three are critical acclaimed shows.
