The audience has spoken, they want Nolan, they want Peele, they want Cruise, they want Chapelle and shows about knights, dragons and titties.
They don't want John Oliver 'comedy' or a lesson in racism acted out on the big screen for 2 hours (unless Tarantino directs it).
Who knows, with more effort their diverse and inclusive content might've been received better but most of it just didn't work.
I think it's better for those creators to go where their audience is (YouTube?), improve their skills and come back swinging when people grow tired of the Maverick clones again.
It's also more about the type of movie than the skin color or whatever, Tenet did great and so did many other things with a POC in the lead.
But Tenet wouldn't have done great if it was a biopic about a black watchmaker from Texas who struggled with his student debt because of a right wing politician named Todd Crez.
The bad ass time traveling secret agent thing and car chases, apparently have something to do with the positive reception

They had a real shot to make cool things with their infinite budgets but instead they made... well, things no one can even remember.
