If there was neither party would gain anything from making it public.
But yeah, mobs are dumb. I can't recall any specific time i've called for someone to get fired over some dumb shit they said. In fact, my second or third post on NeoGaf was defending Phil Fish after he said that Japanese games are starting to get sucky, and everyone was calling him a racist.

..to which bish instantly jumped down my throat and implied that Fish wasn't "renown" enough to have an opinion.
That was my first experience on the forum. I didn't post much on gaming side after that.
Yeah, it's tough to defend people you dislike, just to support a principle. I was actually going to bat for Lime of all people in PM's back when they were stripped of thread posting privileges with no warning. As much as I liked the idea of Lime not posting any more threads, I thought the staff was going about it the wrong way, and criticized them for it. Didn't change anything, of course. And this ArenaNet situation is another example. My gut instinct when reading what she said and that she was fired is "Good!" But then I realize that it's an instance of mob justice, and I have to push back against it.
The ArenaNet woman screwed up in a way that could be fireable offense at a lot of companies, but she also didn't necessarily need to be fired. A reprimand would probably have been fine.
In fairness she doesnt exactly seem like the type to amend her behaviour. This is not the first job she's been fired from for this either
You're probably right. And I wouldn't/don't have any problem with her being fired. I just don't like the mob being part of the equation. What I want on her supervisor's desk is "We have a complaint from a customer; this is what she said." Instead, on their desk was, "We have a complaint, this is what she said, and there are 3,000 customers who are all calling for her to be fired, threatening to stop supporting us if we don't."
People just need to put pitchforks away, all around. The ArenaNet woman screwed up in a way that could be fireable offense at a lot of companies, but she also didn't necessarily need to be fired. A reprimand would probably have been fine.
Maybe she had been reprimanded already for other things? We have no idea and ArenaNet doesn't need to disclose that kind of information. This lady made a stupid ass response to someone trying to legitimately talk to her and got canned for it, which is within the company's rights to do. Boo-fucking-hoo.
You missed my point entirely, which I explained in all my other posts. I'm not criticizing ArenaNet; I even said that after the mob formed, they really didn't have any other reasonable response. Yeah, maybe a reprimand would have been enough, and maybe not. Maybe they would have fired her without the mob. But I don't want a mob to decide it. I want the company to be able to handle it without the threat of a mob influencing how they assess the situation. It should just be her supervisor assessing her behavior. And if that results in a firing, that's fine. She was a total jerk to the customer.
