Man, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Collectors Edition is bothering me subtly. EU version, if that matters.
Huge box. Interesting to open. You slide off a sleeve and then pull aside the two sides of the remaining box to get at the innards.
And then there's an empty metal game case, a normal copy of the game (case and all), a CD with the OST and a soft-cover artbook inside. Pretty standard, all things considered.
So far so good. Now on to the part where I hate myself for complaining, but can't really help but do it anyway.
There's that subtle annoyed feeling. I now have an extra game case. The tin can does indeed look nicer than the normal one, so they probably intend for me to discard that. Throwing it away is stupid, however - while keeping it is stupid too. I'm usually storing away the cases to save space anyway, so it's kinda useless in the first place, to top it all off. Waste of space altogether, if I'm being frank.
The artbook is massive, but pretty fragile, making me want to store it away instead of thumb through it at leisure. No ebook or (switch/iPad) app version as well, so it's unwieldy either way. Just offer a PDF viewer that also plays the soundtrack in the background, dammit. No manual, as usual nowadays
- the artbook is only an artbook. Missed opportunity, methinks.
The OST is pretty rad, but I'd honestly have preferred a USB stick with FLAC and MP3 files to spare me the "work" of ripping (and probably re-tagging) them. Afterwards it is stored away, never to be seen again, again.
The box is effing huge and a beauty for sure, but also unwieldy. The age-old fundamental problem of "What the fuck am I going to do with it now". And it's not even a limited run with serials, so I bet this thing will be on clearance down the line and I'll see it and it'll bother me unreasonably.
I don't really want to complain about such trifling matters, and they'd be easily evaded if I just didn't bother with CEs, but I'm doing it anyway. Feels bad. I could have gotten the normal version for twenty bucks less, but then I'd have tossed and turned at night because I didn't get the damn CE and all the neat shit inside.
...I'd have liked a red game cartridge. Why are these CE game carts always the standard ones. Wait, don't answer that, I know why. I just like to complain. I think. Sigh.
Being a self-loathing videogame nerdling and consumer whore is such a chore, sometimes.
