But I have to say that NG's boss battles were harder than in this game. NG2 bosses are hard because they're dealing cheap attacks.

I don't know about that. I can get through most of the bosses in NG with barely taking a hit. They are tough but their attacks usually have openings. And while most of the bosses in NG2 have major weak spots, unless I'm missing something, a lot of their attacks appear undodgable (Water dragon is a big culprit). I've gone through more lives on these bosses than I ever did on my first run through of NG.

Guys, is Path Of The Warrior considered to be normal mode or hard mode?  I started on Acolyte, but it seemed a little too easy.  But I'm also a Ninja Gaiden newbie.

It was also a little hard going back to Sigma.  Seems slow in comparison to the sequel.  But I am thinking of trudging on and finishing it first.

Up to the last boss. I blew all my items on Dagra Dai but I should be able to restart from my save right before that to fight the last guy with a full inventory. So close to the end!  :'(

This game is great. The first Ninja Gaiden that lets a scrub like me feel awesome. A lot of credit goes to level design that is generally NOT baffling during combat. Way better than the first imo, but im just a ninja dog that wants to casually kick some ass.

I could see how that might be considered cheap, if nothing else in the game is

There's too much trial-and-error gameplay, too many cheap shots, and not enough real challenge. There's a difference between kicking your arse until you learn from it, and kicking your arse until you get lucky, and Ninja Gaiden 2 fails that crucial test all too often.

The vigilant defenders will say that nothing is wrong (despite the constant framerate issues, 556p graphics, and other "teeny" issues not found in Devil May Cry 4), but yes, there is definite cheapness to be found here.

That specific boss fight would appear cheap on the first time through. Anything other than its rolling attack is interruptible though while said rolling attack is easily avoidable.

You get to fight two at once later on too!
[close]

In regards to the comment about taking potshots at the player's healthbar, some enemies have attacks that hit harder than other attacks, its not a big deal and seems like the reviewer just didn't care for how that worked.  I also didn't notice any issues with save point placement.

Well I guess one cheap thing and probably the only thing I remember thus far that I would label would be those stupid fucking underwater mines.  There's one boss fight where you have to exit by running on lava and there's a small bunch of them right at the exit.  :-\

DMC4 and NG2 are just weird when compared. For whatever one game does right, the other does wrong.

Just played the demo, I like it. I don't know what I'm really doing but it looks cool, especially the claws. Ryu is such an incredible bad ass. Silent and reserved but the way he moves and the controlled brutality of his fighting is really cool, such a ninja. Sadly, I don't have the patience nor the skill to get the most out of this game and learn the combat. I got until those gardens of skull fishies in the last one though.
It does play way more fluently than DMC4. I played that demo, but I did not like the controls much.

I was playing it yesterday and I'm currently up to the 5th chapter.  I don't know if it's harder than the first NG but it sure as hell feels like about 10 times faster.  Everything is seemingly in a full on bull rush right at you.  I do like the combat more in this one than the previous NG game (or DMC for that matter).  Feels more visceral, more fluid.  You really feel like a bad ass with all the blood and severed limb porn being splashed around the screen and I'm surprised I'm enjoying it as much as I am.....I wasn't too excited about the game before it came out.

I'm still disappointed that the game doesn't include a cohesive metroid-esque game world like the first game though.  The adventure aspect of NG was the thing (imo) that pushed it from a good game to a fantastic one.  Breaking NG2 into individual levels loaded with hidden stuff and no way to go back and revisit them is a little frustrating.

Yeah but that's not quite the same.  I loved how everything just wrapped around itself making one world in the original NG making it into an adventure game. Alot of time and effort was obviously spent on planning it all out and I could appreciate that.

NG2 feels like I'm on a roller coaster covered in blood and there's no going back.  Just straight up action.

Must be my old Nintendo fan DNA kicking in here.

Hayashi gaiden.

The game hasn't been cheap so far (i'm on ch. 6.)  Gaming has softened up a lot, even since NG1.  People want enemies to stand there and do practically nothing.  But there's always a solution in NGII when you're getting destroyed.  Getting hit by off screen shit?  start running, jumping, and dashing dumbass.  Mission 3 boss giving you trouble?  change up your tactics and try something new.  I can't stand people who call games cheap when they're not....you suck, accept it, learn how to play.

I really like NG2, its more of a game for scrubs like me at the lower difficulty levels. Sure there's trial and error and sure the boss fights can be cheap, but hows that different from the original? NG2 just provides a lot of opportunities for normal players to feel awesome, and I appreciate that.

The first few times I fought the thing I seemed to end up in the water right away....not sure what I was doing exactly....but I was able to take him out with my bow on the ledge.  Finished the guy off with my very last arrow too.  Got lucky there.

God, this game owns. I just finished the first two chapters. Died at the beginning of the 3rd chapter when I was learning to use the claws. One of those big purple enemies did a finisher and punched Ryu's head into the concrete while he was lying on the ground. :lol

I also love how the beginning of the game just throws achievements at you, even though they're small.

The Lunar Staff is really all you need.  I've collected several other weapons now but I keep going back to the staff 'cause it's so useful.  I'd rather play with the double swords or the dragon sword just for pure asthetic reasons but that staff deals out too much ownage to be ignored.

I've been enjoying this game (on warrior difficulty) when I have the chance to play it.  I never upgraded the Lunar Staff and it looks like I've been missing out.
Environment graphics are pretty meh after the Tokyo level, though the level I just got to looks a little nicer (Aqua City?).
Kicking ass kicks ass.  The gore is awesome and the weapons feel different and great.  Claws are fun!
Enemy variety is entertaining too.  Ninja Dogs were the first enemies to actually kill me  :lol
The camera does blow but I don't think it's gotten me killed yet.  I don't mind that it's linear one bit.
I prefer the ACTION in this action game to DMC, GoW, no question.  It's a bit disappointing I've yet to see another game get close to matching NG's action gameplay.  Itagaki :bow2

i dunno if his 360 is dying or not but i do think that this game has issues while being connected to xbl. i opened a chest and the loading took almost a minute and then got killed shortly after and then the game froze on me.

after i restarted i disconnected from xbl and played with minimal loading and no more freezing for hours. i still have yet to have a mid-battle load and i've only had the game pop up a 1-2 second loading screen mid-level once.

The slowdown issues seems exaggerated but the camera problems aren't.  I didn't really have too many issues with the supposedly awful camera in the first NG outside of the horseback boss battle on the bridge but it seems out of fucking control in NG2.  I don't know whether it's because NG2 is balls out faster or what but I've been beat down more than a few times primarily because of the camera.

I've seen worse and you can work around it but it sure as hell isn't your friend in this game.
