I can agree to that. Like I said, of all the Coen bros. movies, it's easily the worst.

Sweet, I'm going in roughly the right order then!  Going to watch Intolerable Cruelty next.  I'm trying to go into these with no expectations.

As Good As It Gets

I remembered I like this film but hadn't seen it for years.  It really is incredible.

A couple of standout moments I'd forgotten are the insane tension when Melvin mistakenly comments on Carol's son near the start, and when Melvin introduces the other characters to each other as "Carol the waitress, Simon the cigarillo". :lol

Jennifer Connolly had a double in the ass-to-ass scene. Your dick knew the difference.
Something was off! But I think it was her strung-out, didn't give a fuck, more bored than offended look that killed the boner.

Twilight

Worst movie I've seen since Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever. How the fuck is this shit so popular?

Night at the Musuem 2

About the same as the original, but Amy Adams and Hank Azaria doing a Boris Carloff impersonation makes it more bearable.

Brothers Bloom

Really didn't live up to the hype IMHO.

Body of Lies

Pretty good action/spy flick, but at the same time it's a weird juxtaposition between a serious thriller that touches on issues like torture and a ridiculous action movie. Sort of like trying to mixture between [insert serious flick about middle east/war on terror] and 24. It's entertaining though, and watching Di Caprio and Crowe play cat n mouse is fun.

I was pretty dissapointed with the av club's list to be honest.  Putting The Royal Tenebaums on the list at all is bad enough, but putting it right above Mulholland Drive?  Sheesh.

I love Wes Anderson movies that aren't Bottle Rocket or Darjeeling

I liked Muholland Drive, but it's my least favorite Lynch film.  I think it's because I had the film's explanation spoiled before I saw it.   :maf

Also any list that has In The Mood For Love and Mulholland Drive at the top is doing something right.

If Mulholland Drive is compared to the quality of In The Mood for Love, then I need to watch it.

I have a feeling Mr Fox is going to make me join Wes Anderson's treehouse club :/ I enjoyed darjeeling.

anyway just watched satyricon and brazil as back to back as my senses could allow. :bow film

well, they can be tiresome in spots. the fellini was entrancing and frightening the first 25 minutes, though overall I felt disengaged from any critique or implication. Still fierce revelry thoughout... totally beyond me.. though wasn't keen on the banquet episode

and brazil gets a bit too echo-y and noisy at times.

  Still great experiences.

Life Aquatic is full of non-stop unexpected genius.

William Dafoe's character is amazing.  Murray is fantastic.  The end with the
spoiler (click to show/hide)
GIANT MONSTER UNDER THE SEA

was a beautiful finish.  The film is incredibly random, but feels very geniune and that makes the randomness work and be utterly hilarious.  Meanwhile from the dramatic side, the geniune-ness makes the characters grow on you and the film is emotionally touching by the end.

I feel Rushmore is still picture-perfect, but though flawed, Life Aquatic will always have a special place in my heart.

admittedly Wes Anderson, in view of his aesthetic mimics like the guys behind brothers bloom and juno, now appears as a more pure and appealing figure.

Genuine?

The actors are super in-character the whole time.  They feel like a bunch of real weird dudes.  I dunno, it feels pretty geniune to me.  As opposed to feeling like a bunch of actors hanging out together being funny (Ocean's Eleven).

Blood Simple

The Coen's first movie as fas as I know.  While it did have a relatively simple story I enjoyed it.  Interesting pacing and a good atmosphere.

The Bucket List

A pretty flat movie and it probably would have been a total waste of time Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman weren't in it.  They managed to wring something mildly engaging out of virtually nothing.

He was awesome indeed.  Sadly I don't think I got to experience the full awesomeness of the movie because I was so tired I kept falling asleep. I'm quite disappointed actually. :(

25th Hour

I had been meaning to watch this for years, really, but it showing up on a bunch of Best of Decade lists finally pushed me over the edge. That was an absolutely fantastic movie, wow. I love Ed Norton -- and the rest of the cast is fucking great as well. Barry Pepper's character is awesome, Philip Seymour Hoffman plays what he almost always seems to play, Rosario Dawson is hot, as is Anna Paquin, and Brian Cox is always great.

There's the famous "Fuck you" speech, which was hilarious, sad, and accurate at the same time, but there were plenty of other scenes that I thought were better and more powerful, especially when

It was a great portrait of NYC after 9/11, but also of a man coming to grips with the mistakes of his life and the depressing fact that life will go on without him.

Sylvia (2003) - The subject matter is certainly interesting. Unfortunately the film does very little to make you sympathize with any of the characters. The film is merely a voyeuristic look into the lives of a troubled poet in a patriarchal society.  Depressing fare all around.

Idiocracy (2006) - I applaud the concept, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Still has the requisite number of laughs, but this isn't Office Space (what is?)

Extract (2009) - More laughs than Idiocracy. I could easily see Ron Livingston in the Jason Bateman role, but it works. It's always great to see Ben Affleck in a comic role. The opening bit in the guitar store is brilliant.

I satiated my manchild self today and saw The Princess and the Frog.  Surprisingly good, although I mean more from an audiovisual sense.  The story is typical mushy true love pap, but they really went all out on the animation front.  I can't stress enough how well they emoted the characters and such.  The villian is great too.
