Extraction, for a movie with no plot, characters, and many problematic elements, is pretty good.  The action, which is all there is to the movie, is very good.

Shit I got wasted and it's so late now :( have to watch tomorrow sorry
Have you watched it yet?

I watched the full movie that night, and it was pretty damn crazy. Some of the effects really didnt hold up but what can you expect from a movie from the 70's. I actually thought the cinematography in the beginning was better than in the middle, but it picked up a bit near the end again. I hoped to see a little bit more gore, it was actually fairly tame and in some ways more of a comedy than a horror movie? I had expected more of a horror movie going in haha. Kung Fu was great. Everytime her theme song came on I started laughing.

I also hoped for a bit more of a good ending, but eh  :lol

I rate it a 7.5 out of 10

Although we do see the hottest girl naked, so Ill give it a spare B+ banana point for that

Not the cat news I was hoping for, but I’ll take them both.

I’m still hoping that the 1988 animated Felix the Cat: the movie makes its way onto something that’s at least 1080p. Rumor is that all of the cans were destroyed when the Hungarian government got involved with the movie and some rights issues. That’s why only a few minutes of film are available to boutique brands. Yes there are dvds of it out there but it’s horrible tape conversions. I own several of the original art cells and assets from that film and even bought some directly from Don Oriolo the man behind the movie. That movie was great... I think

Watching Nightmare on Elm Street 2 right now.  I totally don't understand why the main dude doesn't bang the hottie.  She is totally into him!  Also, why does every second scene have a nude boy in it?

Elm Street 2 is the black sheep of the series. It breaks all of the rules established in the first one and then gets promptly forgotten in the third. I would skip it and go straight to 3, which is the best by far.

Just finished.  It was really good.  The inversion of I-can't-sleep-because-something-bad-will-happend-to-me to I-can't-sleep-because-I-will-do-something-bad, would have worked well on its own.  But then it gets combined that with the subtext of feeling monstrous as a gay person and the fear of coming out and acting on it, which takes the inversion and adds social commentary to it and makes the movie something that really stands out.  I hadn't seen it since I was 13ish, so like 2001ish, and I just remember going 'lol gay' with friends and thinking it was cheesy and not scary.  Going to start 3 now.  I don't think I have seen 5, 6, or Freddy Vs.

La Llorona was really good.  It was more a drama about genocide in Guatemala than a horror.

I was waiting to watch the good La Llorona before I watched that since I have watched the other 6 conjuring-verse movies in the last 2 months.  Not going to lie, I enjoyed Conjuring 1,2, Anabelle 2, and even 3 a bit.  The Christian conservative messaging is a bit grating but they are fun ghost stories.

It's building off an end-credits scene so even if you care, I suppose you're already "spoiled." :P

IMO, this news story is the official death knell of the traditional theatrical release window.

Starting in 2022, Cineworld will have a 45-day exclusivity window before titles are released on streaming services.

If the window keeps collapsing no way WB doesn't try to renogotiate this when the time comes. Only a matter of time until the HBO Max model is normal. And honestly... In that case, everyone wins, right?

Akira Kurosawa’s List of His 100 Favorite Movies [as compiled posthumously by his daughter]

Even I am prey to sexism; the list was actually compiled in a book authored by his daughter, not son.

That's also what you get for skimming the list and not RTFAing. :shaq2

Her name alone (Kazuko Kurosawa) would have been a giveaway. :doge

My horror meetup group (which I'm not really involved in post-pandemic) is renting out a theater to watch Godzilla vs. Kong.
Seems crazy to me when it's free on HBO Max, but I guess some people need that theater experience in their life.

I'm all for theaters returning, but idk at my age I don't really care about the theater experience anymore. Maybe for seeing shitty horror movies that everyone can laugh at afterwards.

I consider myself a Coen Brothers fan but I have never seen Blood Simple until tonight. Very slow noir film with plenty of tense moments. The Coens wrote for character actors. M. Emmet Walsh plays a hayseed Anton Chigurh who is in it for himself at every opportunity, causing all of the conflict and forcing not-so-good people to make worse decisions. Coen films are based on bad choices, this one is full of them.

Man.

That trailer is loaded with plot elements.

But yeah there are little hints of their future filming styles and character traits all over Blood Simple. It's like Ur-Coen of their current style, you see germinations of ideas, all within a bleak noir drama and dark dark DARK comedy.

I think a movie from 1984 is exempt from people claiming "SPOILER!"

Fun chrono-fact: I saw this movie in a theater during its initial theatrical run. The theater has been replaced an ugly-ass office building.

Oh, no, it wasn't that, the movie was just so fresh in my mind that when I saw all these pivotal scenes it just brought the moments back. It's a good trailer for celebrating that movie.
