House was fucking amazing and gonzo. :dead

So many bonkers and inventive filmmaking techniques employed in such rapid succession... The only comparison that even feels close are Stephen Chow films like Shaolin Soccer. My jaw legit dropped at one point, and I kept cracking up and saying "No way" the entire time.

For sure, you have to be in the right mindset, and some may find the absolute rapid-fire pacing to be tiresome, but if you can get on board this is one hell of a ride.

I know Ben Wheatley is divisive but I really enjoyed High Rise, and this seems like a compelling cross between The Ritual (really liked) and Midsommar (slightly less so.)

Da fuck is Ree talking about? Tonally, that trailer is right in line with both the original Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. Looks like it'll be about as good as those too. Enjoyable, but forgettable. Gunn is a cornball though.

After 3 comedies, I wanna see Harley in something more serious. Like a prequel showing what her and Joker did to Robin.

That's the great thing about it not being in the Snyder-verse anymore - you don't have to watch that shit before enjoying The Suicide Squad.  Let alone twice.

Speaking of movies with prolific N-words, I finally watched Menace II Society (1993, dir. Allen and Albert Hughes) yesterday.

Damn, the Wayans' Don't Be a Menace really just straight ripped this off. :lol

Overall was pretty good, opening scene hooks you in less than two minutes and the rest of the movie doesn't let go. Despite the subject matter, the larger than life personalities keep the levity high (particularly O-Dog.) Some truly ahead-of-the-curve editing and stylistic choices for 1993 make this one feel pretty timeless. And was awesome seeing Young Niobe. :P

Some of the acting and some of the lines/moralizing didn't hit me the way they probably were intended, but this is a damn easy movie to recommend. It's funny Tupac after he quit/was fired made fun of the movie's budget (in a roundabout way), because you really don't see it for the most part. Some of the sets feel a bit flimsy but that feels appropriate tbh. And seeing early Sam Jackson cuss and shoot up a storm is always fun.

Made some more progress on the Capeshit movies with my daughter.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Great follow up with excellent action scenes and some themes which kind of question the idea of super powered people running around being judge, jury and executioner in an organisation which exists outside the law. Obviously doesn't go too hard on the morality of the whole superhero thing, but as far as the MCU goes...

Guardians of the Galaxy - Just a good fun action/blockbuster movie. I love it and one of my favourite Marvel movies. My daughter really enjoyed it too.

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Heavy on the philosophical bullshit and morality, action scenes are ok, really poor final act brings it down and it has no right being this long. My daughter was thoroughly bored by the end.

Ant Man is up next. Another of my favorites and I think my daughter will really enjoy the silliness.

Personally i found the carnival of stupid that is Sicario 2 to fall in the camp of "so bad it's good".
The idea to take Sicario and try to make it a shitty "Cinematic Universe" is very funny.

I only got through the first half last night.  Feels like Rambo 3 to First Blood.  Like a decent action movie in its own right but totally devoid of the messaging and drama that made the first so interesting.

I love the tension and building in Sicario so watching 2 throw all that away was super disappointing. Which is why ZeroZeroZero is so damn good, it’s got that feels of Sicario but on a bigger stage.

Been watching a lot of 70's Eurosleaze and trying to get into giallos a little.

Sergio Martino's Giallos (All these movies are on Shudder)

Other Sergio Martino films

Other Italian Eurojank

German Eurojank

British Eurojank

Spanish Eurojank

I give these movies a combined rating of 150/10.

Speaking of pointless miserygore-porn, I watched the conclusion to the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU), Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

It's pretty much Flashpoint: Again, just with the apocalypse "really happening" (but not really), some character starting positions changed around, and a bigger emphasis on Constantine (it's JL Dark, after all) and paying off the previous 15 movies in this continuity. It mostly works, but the 100% RottenTomatoes score is insane to me, and I really worry it sends the wrong message to DC execs.

You don't need gore to pull off mature storytelling. And I've criticized the DCAMU for this before, and it's the worst it's ever been here. And honestly, in this extremely cheap-o animation style, it just comes off as comical for the most part. Oh hey, it's Starfire's entrails! 15-year old Superboy gets his neck violently snapped in a close-up! Batgirl gets cannibalized and it's somehow MORE brutal than Blob's acts in Ultimatum!

WOW!!!! HARDCORE!!!!!

It depresses me Marvel balances an anti-gore mentality with high-stakes action so well, because that kinda only leaves "edgy as fuck" for DC films to go. It used to be the animated side was thankfully spared from that direction, but fuck it, we got R-rated cartoon decapitations now! And if you're not on board, fuck off to Weeny Hut Jr I guess.

Aside from the gore, the writing cribs a lot from Flashpoint as I mentioned. I have to laugh that every time we're introduced to a new "wacky 'alternate' universe" situation, we're thrown into things in-media-res for like 2 minutes of action, and then everyone stands around for 5 minutes explaining how that scenario came to be in the two years since Darkseid conquered Earth. :lol

This was my first introduction to King Shark as he is portrayed in Suicide Squad, and he's basically Cannibal Groot? Ok.

Mask of the Phantasm is top-tier.

Under the Red Hood is slightly better than Year One IMO, but they're both good.

I haven't seen all of the DCAMU movies, but the best and most accurate is probably Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.

A Marvel superfan has broken the Guinness World Record for the most cinema productions attended of the same film after watching "Avengers: Endgame" 191 times.

Ramiro Alanis, 33, who is from Florida, broke the record earlier this month, which was previously held by YouTuber NemRaps, who watched "Avengers: Infinity War" 103 times in theaters.

Speaking about breaking the record with the Guinness World Record team, Alanis said his passion for cinema helped him power through his record attempt, but he said it didn't come without struggles.

"The most difficult part about this attempt was giving up my social life with my family, the gym (I lost 16 pounds of muscle), and managing my work hours and screening times at the theaters," he said.

At instance #162 or whatever, you're not even watching the movie anymore.
So i mean, at that point it's just a matter of sitting there to get the record, however valuable it may be to you.
I'd be more impressed by some psycho doing it genuinely and not for a little bit of e-fame.

I can't even think of a movie I've seen close to ten total times in 30ish years so nearly 200 times is unfathomable to me. Let alone in under two years like this dude.

Probably something like Demolition Man just because it'd be on TNT so often and I'd leave it on when there was nothing else. But I wasn't even watching it by like the fifth time and just listening to it or whatever.

Star Trek II is probably like the one movie I've legitimately watched the most and that's probably been four or five times max, one of those with Rifftrax, like once every five to ten years. American Psycho is up there too because there was a period where I'd watch it with other people if they'd never seen it but I similarly can't imagine I've seen that more than five times max.

Aliens and First Blood Part II are probably my most watched movies. But that's because they were my go to films when I was home sick from school back in the days before DVDs and streaming when you had to record things from television on VHS.

I'd say I've watched both films somewhere between 10-20 times.
