Most seen movie is probably The Social Network, there was a period I was constantly replaying the Blu-ray stuck inside one winter. It was that and Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and it was my first Blu-ray player and some of my first at-home HD film experiences. The soundtracks to both make each viewing almost hypnotic (praise be Reznor.)

TSN probably 30+, TGWTDT probably 20+. A bunch of Disney shit probably fills out the lower counts, with Hercules likely at the top.

I don't know how you could be a child when movies were around and not have watched stuff 100+ times.  Chrono I understand since that train coming at the audience would probably have grown old, but others?  Or maybe it's just cause I didn't have cable as a kid.

I think you'd need a cutoff at some point, maybe movies you've seen after you've turned 13, because you're right, most parents will raise their kids with Disney as the nanny.

With or without MST3K? I managed to catch the actual film one night on a channel.

Mostly MST3K/Rifftrax, but I have seen it unriffed too.

Speaking of pointless miserygore-porn, I watched the conclusion to the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU), Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

It's pretty much Flashpoint: Again, just with the apocalypse "really happening" (but not really), some character starting positions changed around, and a bigger emphasis on Constantine (it's JL Dark, after all) and paying off the previous 15 movies in this continuity. It mostly works, but the 100% RottenTomatoes score is insane to me, and I really worry it sends the wrong message to DC execs.

You don't need gore to pull off mature storytelling. And I've criticized the DCAMU for this before, and it's the worst it's ever been here. And honestly, in this extremely cheap-o animation style, it just comes off as comical for the most part. Oh hey, it's Starfire's entrails! 15-year old Superboy gets his neck violently snapped in a close-up! Batgirl gets cannibalized and it's somehow MORE brutal than Blob's acts in Ultimatum!

WOW!!!! HARDCORE!!!!!

It depresses me Marvel balances an anti-gore mentality with high-stakes action so well, because that kinda only leaves "edgy as fuck" for DC films to go. It used to be the animated side was thankfully spared from that direction, but fuck it, we got R-rated cartoon decapitations now! And if you're not on board, fuck off to Weeny Hut Jr I guess.

Aside from the gore, the writing cribs a lot from Flashpoint as I mentioned. I have to laugh that every time we're introduced to a new "wacky 'alternate' universe" situation, we're thrown into things in-media-res for like 2 minutes of action, and then everyone stands around for 5 minutes explaining how that scenario came to be in the two years since Darkseid conquered Earth. :lol

This was my first introduction to King Shark as he is portrayed in Suicide Squad, and he's basically Cannibal Groot? Ok.

I get the bringing back craig thing as a sherlock esque reoccurring detective but I think part of the fun was his relative wildcardy-ness in the first knives out. both you the audience and the protagonist trying to pull one over him don't really know where he stands or what he's 100% thinking. I did really like the movie though so I'd watch a sequel. can't be worse then that other trilogy rian is involved in

I guess you can do that in sequels too. but works better in a one off.

Godzilla Vs Kong:

What a strange flick. I want to take the editor in for crimes against storytelling. The movie runs at a pace that’s like an Adderall induced Saturday morning cartoon special. I went to check my phone while watching it to check in on our sick kitty and I swear I thought I missed a whole subplot or transitional/supporting shot, nope.

Biggest crime of this movie:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
MechaGodzilla is controlled by one of the leftover brains of King Ghidorah. At some point in the plot of this fucking movie they thought it was smart for it to get it’s own intelligence instead of having it just be a reincarnated Ghidorah. So it’s still connected to some Apex satellite network that can be momentarily interrupted with leftover dead wife whiskey.

Godzilla vs. Kong was pretty dumb. The monster scenes were fine, but the stuff with the humans was mindnumbing.

"Kong bows to no one!" is probably this movie's "let them fight," although I'd certainly also accept "Godzilla's hurting people and we don't know why!"

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Whoever mentioned the editing is right on. There's one scene where the scientist lady agrees Kong should go to fairytale land to help them find whatever, and the very next scene, Kong is knocked out, chained up and being transported on a boat. You didn't miss anything; the movie just never explains how Kong got knocked out.

Some other stuff was stupid. Godzilla could sense Mechagodzilla, possibly because of Monster X's remnants, and decides to attack. But Mechagodzilla is being built at multiple sites, and Godzilla attacks the American site first because I have no idea why. And I don't know why Godzilla would be agitated by a skull for a monster it killed, either, or a robot.

The two kids in the movie are annoying. There's a scene where they slide blindly down some wreckage to infiltrate a high-tech facility. I wanted more than anything to see them drop 100 feet to their doom.

Addressing some nitpicks
Showing Kong getting knocked out would be a pointless waste of time. We already know mute girl is basically his handler this movie.

The American site was seen moving a fuckton of stuff via underground tube to Hong Kong. That plus Monster X being blown apart in Boston, MA, USA, makes the American site likely the main one they were trying to assemble Mechagodzilla first. Then Godzilla attacked and blew it up.

Honestly the dumber thing about that sequence is the unprotected (seriously, no keycard or passcode??) elevator to Generic Secret Evil Lair #232312.

"Why does Godzilla care if Ghidorah comes back to life?" U serious breh? It took Mothra sacrificing herself for bro to even have a chance last movie. And he had to team up with Monkee in this movie. Dead or alive, Ghidorah will always be seen as a serious threat.

I liked Stranger Things girl even though it's mostly a carry-over from King of the Monsters. I did not like nerdy kid at all.

The real joke is that's real script and he spoiled a cameo and nerds are gonna get real mad when it actually happens
That’s because deep down the nerds know those Marvel movies are so superficial that there’s nothing to reward a watch beyond things going boom, new story points, and snide japes.

Meanwhile in Zack Snyder’s DC movies, layers and layers of glorious subtext hiding in well-framed kino.

In the November/December 1982 issue of Film Comment, Chuck Ross wrote that he retyped the screenplay to Casablanca, changing the title back to Everybody Comes to Rick's and the name of the piano player to Dooley Wilson, and submitted it to 217 agencies. The majority of agencies returned the script unread (often due to a policy of refusing unsolicited screenplays) or did not respond; however, of those who did respond, only thirty-three specifically recognized it as Casablanca. Meanwhile, eight others thought it was similar to Casablanca, and forty-one agencies rejected the screenplay outright, offering comments such as "Too much dialogue, not enough exposition, the story line was weak, and in general didn’t hold my interest." Three agencies offered to represent the screenplay, and one suggested turning it into a novel.

Not as much as a "gotcha" as it seems?

Straight up, Casablanca is pretty lame without Bogart.

Of course you'd get told to fuck off if you tried to sell a literal late 1930s/early 1940s screenplay in modern times without adapting it. Steven Soderbergh made The Good German with his clout after the Oceans movies which emulates 1940s film better than Mank and it lost millions, has been completely forgotten(even WB only uploaded the official trailer like 5 years ago in...240p) and the critical consensus was more or less

Honestly that's way "better" than I expected.

Like Quaker said, you can't write a 30's screenplay today and expect it to be as well received. This was the fundamental reason I didn't connect with Danny Boyle's Yesterday.

They replaced Spacejam.com for this awful looking movie. And let’s not even talk about what they did to the song.
