Movie night with the kids resulted in Night at the Museum 2. I was in fear, but it was really pretty good. Hank Azaria is hilarious, and I like Stiller in almost anything. Amelia Earhart has a nice can.
With-just-the-wife movie night was The Ugly Truth, which was also better than expected. As a man who thinks that romance movies are generally a greater threat to world peace than action movies like Rambo, I always go into these expecting the worst. Instead of the usual psychologically troubling and unrealistic fare of couples failing to communicate and suppressing their own best interests in the name of the relationship, this one was entirely about needing to be honest with one's self before pursuing romance, never putting on a false front for your date, and the importance of communicating honestly but from a position of respect.
Gotta say, Gerard Butler as a romantic lead always causes a little cognitive dissonance. I keep thinking he's going to kick someone into a deep, black well.
