Don't.

do.

it's a terrible "horror" movie which tries to add depth with obnoxiously cliched political "thought"

I don't remember Cube much.  Saw it when it first hit the theater.  All I remember is it beat the first RE movie to the punch of having a dude get laser sliced into a hundred tiny square pieces.

Bildi, remove it.  It is so terrible, dude.  It's painfully amateur.  The actual horror is few and far between and horribly predictable.

Also, watched Sunshine last night.  How did something go so fast from an awesome tense sci fi movie to a cheap Event Horizonesque movie?  What the hell happened?  Who thought that was a good idea?  That movie could have been so great :(  I was really thinking "if it continues like this it could be one of my favorites"  Not enough :('s in the world

Kingdom of Heaven
The director's cut.  I liked it.

I haven't seen the theatrical release and all I've known about this movie was that people said the Director's Cut was a billion times better.  Not sure of the differences but I'm guessing the theatrical one wasn't three hours long.

Also, at one point in the movie I said "Jeremy Irons is badass" out loud.  I think that realization was building in my head for many years and this movie made me finally confirm it.

Agreed on the Sunshine sentiments. So sad. I still kinda want it on BRD just cause it's so good for 2/3 of it and it looks incredible.

The White Ribbon

Fuck this movie!  :lol

It was long, waaaay too slow for my ADD tastes, not particularly interesting and non-ending was bullshit.  It felt like the kind of story I'd be forced to read in high school.  The cinematography was amazing, but felt like a huge waste of time.  So far I am 1:1 with Haneke after really like Funny Games and really disliking The White Ribbon.  One of these days I'm gonna watch Cache and I hope it's more like the former.

*edit wait, this was rated R according to imdb?  ....what?  No violence or skin was shown and there was zero cursing.  I thought it would be PG.  Rating makes no sense.  Sure the themes and acts implied are adult, but an R rating is for what you show, not what you don't!

Movie night with the kids resulted in Night at the Museum 2. I was in fear, but it was really pretty good. Hank Azaria is hilarious, and I like Stiller in almost anything. Amelia Earhart has a nice can.

With-just-the-wife movie night was The Ugly Truth, which was also better than expected. As a man who thinks that romance movies are generally a greater threat to world peace than action movies like Rambo, I always go into these expecting the worst. Instead of the usual psychologically troubling and unrealistic fare of couples failing to communicate and suppressing their own best interests in the name of the relationship, this one was entirely about needing to be honest with one's self before pursuing romance, never putting on a false front for your date, and the importance of communicating honestly but from a position of respect.

Gotta say, Gerard Butler as a romantic lead always causes a little cognitive dissonance. I keep thinking he's going to kick someone into a deep, black well.

I started watching House of the Devil last night.  It was so awesome but I started watching it at midnight and i got about an hour in before I had to remind myself for the millionth time I was waking up at 5.  Nothing much had happened yet, but the feel of it was so damn awesome I know I'm going to love the rest.  I especially loved the walkman dancing/pool playing scene through the house.  For some reason it just made me smile and laugh.

It's great, I saw it a few weeks ago.  The last 15 minutes are intense.

Is it supposed to be as good as the first?

I liked REC 2 even though I never saw the first.  But I wasn't lost because the American remake which I did watch, seemed to have the same basic plot and ending.

What I liked about the sequel is that it brings an interesting angle to the origins of such zombies.   The movie does drag a bit in the middle with a bunch of characters that came out of nowhere but it's not bad enough to dampen the overall experience.

Enjoyed it.  Fun story, good performances, good direction.
Soderbergh's been on a pretty good streak lately (still need to watch Che).  I think everything he's done post >_< Ocean's Twelve >_< has been at least good, if not great.

I bet Norton feels a lot better about getting kicked off the Avengers. If Thor is any indication, it'll be a fucking disaster.

Shoulda stuck to making Iron Man and Hulk films.

Joss Whedon writing and directing The Avengers is enough to know Norton was lucky to not be apart of that. And I am not sure they should have stuck to that, it's not like Iron Man 2 and Incredible Hulk were great movies.

Now, this picture really pisses me off because that Asian dude DIED in Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift. So either he magically got resurrected or this film takes place before Tokyo Drift. Which doesn't make sense UNLESS Tokyo Drift takes place in the future. And if Tokyo Drift takes place after all these films, that means Lucas Black can't reprise his role as baka gaijin, Sean Boswell in this film.

Goddammit Vin Diesel, you fuckin' up.

I agree about Tokyo Drift.  It wasn't as bad as people say.  It really seemed to not take itself uber serious which I liked.  2 Fast 2 Furious was just terribad on a lot of levels.  1>4>3>2    Hell, at least 3 wasn't filled to the brim with CG.

I think I'm going to watch 1 and 4 on blu ray tonight

Pitch Black is solid, but ridiculously overhyped. It's B- science fiction that's not total garbage, so fanboys get real worked up about it. I even liked bits of Riddick (it's Vin Diesel's best character). Outside of Saving Private Ryan, the rest of his reel is abysmal.

The Fast and the Furious movies are a good barometer, because I know when I see someone say that they enjoy the series, I can immediately ignore the rest of their opinions.

I've seen people put it on Top 10 genre lists and stuff. It has a pretty rabid fanbase. I didn't think Vin Diesel and Twohy would be able to milk the franchise for decades, but I was proven wrong!
