I'm hoping Schwarzenegger and Willis will have more than a commercial-length spot this time.

In Japan, those two were used to promote the film, and a lot of people felt ripped off that it was just a cameo. It was in ALL the ads.

from what i read, Arnold shot all of his scenes in 4 days. I doubt he's a major factor in the movie. The most we're gonna get is 1 action scene with him.

Currently watching Hangover II. It's so bad yet I'm enjoying it even more than the first one. They could up the funny a bit more though.

Saw Drive yesterday. Heard a few good things about it but not much as I hadn't been following reviews for it. Went in fresh faced.

The whole 80's style dealio thing was great. i think the music was like the driving force behind that and it totally payed off.
The protagonist and his calm and cool aura was pretty cool and likable until about halfway through. Christina hendricks looked like a mess but the spandex pants she wore gave me a chub so i'm conflicted.
all in all, it was pretty great. Probably my favorite movie this year I guess, but I haven't seen that many. As an aside, more films need less dialogue.

Watched Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith with my son today. He loved Episode I (he's 6), and kind of liked Ep. II, so I figured we'd finish with the CG Clone Wars movie and Ep. III.

He became very bored during the movie, and played with other toys, unless there was a fight scene. I tried to explain why Palpatine was a bad guy, but playing a good guy, and that Anakin is a good guy, who actually becomes a really, really bad guy. It all takes place too quickly and with no explanation which makes sense anyway. In the end, my son summed it up pretty well: "Now I don't really want to play that character in Lego Star Wars anymore."

And there's the rub, there's the central problem with all of the "prequels": We all know that the sunny-dispositioned kid, the one who becomes a bad-ass general in the Jedi order, is going to grow up to be the guy who blows up entire planets, or enslaves entire populations. We all know that the neat-o keen Commander Cody of the Clone Troopers is going to be a backstabbing bitch who kills the Jedi, the ones who have saved their asses repeatedly if the Clone Wars TV show is any indicator, kills them from behind, without hesitation.

There are no heroes in the prequel movies. There's no one to root for. And rather than try and find a reasonable explanation (or hire someone to write a reasonable explanation for him), Lucas tries to cram it all into the last hour of a three film epic. WTF.

At least in the Japanese dubbed version, at the very end, Vader only screams an anguished cry, rather than "Nooooooooooooo!"

The Clone Wars movie was awful but the actual  Clone Wars cgi animated tv series is the best thing in the franchise since The Empire Strikes Back. If he hasn't seen that as well show him that. I'd go crazy if that was on TV when I was 6. Fantastic pulpy flash gordon style week to week adventures cutting out most of the political/romance shit of the prequels.

the difference is winter's bones wasn't a shallow movie that tried to disguise itself with ambiguities. actually, i can't think of anything similar to the film other than the both of them being coined as having been the "arrival film" for the two leading roles.

Take Me Home Tonight

Pretty lame.  The ways it tries to be "80s" are cheap; it's only music, fashion, and cocaine.  But I'm glad someone paid Michael Biehn to act in it.

I wonder if fat slob actors are a rarity these days because I'm pretty sure I've seen this movie's fat slob playing the same fat slob in other movies too.

Biehn the main character's dad.  He's only in it for about five minutes, but still, his presence is the best part of the movie.

Hm I've witnessed the opposite reaction upon watching the prequels with my little cousins. They loved PM, especially Jar Jar. They also kind of lost interest in the Clone Wars (movie). But they LOVED Revenge Of The Sith. Like, to the point where after it ended, they played with toys for a couple hours before demanding I start the movie again.

Too true. The Losers was a nice surprise, and A-Team had a surplus of talent to go along with a big nothing of an actioner script. As a fan, probably because I was a fan when it was originally on the air, the movie was a real disappointment.

I think it depends on the age. A 5-6 year old would love Episode 1 but I imagine a 9-10 year old would be more inclined to like Revenge of the Sith. Though kids seem all about the Clone Wars lately from what I have noticed. The little boys my girlfriend nannys for are obsessed with the Clone Wars, as far I as I know they are oblivious there are even movies outside of the show.

From what I have seen the originals move to slow to really hold young kids interest as much as the prequels.  :-\

That has to be a generational thing, because my parents said I'd sit and watch the Classic Trilogy over and over as a little kid in the early 80s.

Kids just don't have the attention span anymore with the sort of stuff that is on tv. The scenes like R2 and C-3PO wandering aimlessly in the desert for a while just bore them and make them want to go off and play with toys. Little kids seem to expect constant action or silliness nowadays.

It's sad but I can understand it kinda. 70's/80's family movies to us seem great and want to pass them on but are way too dated to the average kid to sit down and watch and enjoy it. I am sure most of us thought that about 50's/60's movies when we were kids.

My 9 year old kid brother only likes the original trilogy in its original cut and thinks the prequels suck, and no I didn't "give" him that opinion I just started from the first till Revenge Of The Sith and he had his own disappointment with them.

Yeah, I was trying really hard to explain the big twist that ends up having Anakin betray everything he believes in. I noticed on thing which turns the situation a little more emotionally volatile, and also shows the already-swayed nature of Anakin's allegiance: Mace Windu is the last one taking on Darth Sidious, after Sidious OWNED two other Jedis in short order in the initial encounter. This makes Mace really wary of leaving Sidious alive, and he determines that he just needs to kill Sidious outright... "He's too dangerous to live!"

This is the same thing Palpatine declares to Anakin about Count Dooku in the opening scene, insisting that Anakin kill Dooku. Anakin tries to refuse, but caves, and beheads the Count. It's immediately clear that he regrets the decision, as it is not the Jedi way.

When Mace declares the same exact sentence about Palpatine, Anakin may have felt that the Jedi posed "the threat to democracy" which Palpatine had foreseen.

But on the heels of that, Anakin takes to the Emperor's cock like it's a fudgcicle on a hot day, devoting himself to the dark side with an inexplicable abandon, and lack of regret.

The Clone Wars movie was awful but the actual  Clone Wars cgi animated tv series is the best thing in the franchise since The Empire Strikes Back. If he hasn't seen that as well show him that. We're watching the Clone Wars season 1 right now, but he mainly digs the action. He doesn't understand much of the plot, because it's in English, and I haven't found a Japanese version to rent, yet.

can you blame kids these days? it's not like kids don't love the original trilogy, it's just a four year old will be far more interested in watching the revenge of the sith than the new hope. hell if i were a kid today, i'd be the same way. everything is so fucking flashy.

plus we've all been kids before. i had been watching star wars since as far back as i could remember but i still remember the day i watched all three back to back on the usa network when i was 8 or 9 years old. i didn't fully comprehend exactly what was going on the previous times i had rented them, and possibly viewed them always out of order, but that day, whatever amount of time elapsed between the last time i had see the series and then was enough time for me to mature to the point that i didn't care only for the lightsabers and xwings, but all the things between those moments like the plot and the characters. i fucking built an enclosed fort around the tv out of the couch cushions and my blankets. falling in love with star wars was one of the most memorable days of my childhood.

Glad to hear it. I only recently was informed that it's not Zack Snyder, which was my impression from the previews. It looks more like 300 than The Cell, at least in the advertisements.

It definitely has some 300 qualities about it (mainly the fight scenes which I think it also does better) but I think it pulls of the dramatic aspects and any scenes outside of the battlefield much, much better than 300 ever did. As far as costume design and battle scenes it definitely has aspects of The Cell and 300 but as a whole its a much better movie than both in my opinion. I just love Tarsem's twist on mythic Greece.

Anyone that thinks Harry Potter is the new Star Wars for this generation should consider that society and media are changed, there is so much stuff now that nothing will reach the same nostalgia levels of Star Wars.

I mean sure, there will be millions of kids with great HP memories, but they also have so much other stuff and movies and shows they won't be as focussed on 1 thing.

We only had Star Wars, hence the universal love for it in our age bracket.

We only had Star Wars, hence the universal love for it in our age bracket.

That's....a pretty stupid thing to say dude.

Not really.

You can't ignore that society itself, and media especially is much more fleeting, dispensible and fragmented nowadays.

You used to be able to come in to work/school and talk about the show last night, now chances are everyone watched something different.
