The Pai Mei scene is burned into my brain from seeing it as a teenager in the theater.  It was too much awesome for me to handle.

I missed Vol 2 in theaters so I had to wait for the dvd, but vol 1 in theaters was one of my favorite things for a while.

I thought the Battleship movie was just an internet joke and then I saw the trailer :-\

If the trailer didn't say Battleship I would have assumed it was another Transformers.

I thought it was a ripoff of Top Gun until the aliens showed up.

Came in for typical beautiful Tarsem Singh visuals and Henry Cavill being the hottest man on the planet not named Bernardo Velasco. Was not disappointed.

For shits and giggles:

Pulp Fiction > Inglourious Basterds > Jackie Brown > Reservoir Dogs > Kill Bill Vol. 2 > Death Proof > Kill Bill Vol. 1

For shits and giggles:

Pulp Fiction > Inglourious Basterds > Jackie Brown > Reservoir Dogs > Kill Bill Vol. 2 > Death Proof > Kill Bill Vol. 1
Everything about this is right except that Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 need to be 1 and 2, respectively. Then it's complete.

Uma Thurman is a skinny model with no acting ability or sexual stimulation at all.  There, I said it.  Let me enjoy female roles by women who can actual act and show off their female proportions as well.

Why would a person dislike Bruce Willis? I don't get it.

I liked Bruce Willis 20 years ago; I don't like him now.  He's a shadow of what he once used to be.

It more or less was, though. Shooting guns, stuff blowing up, underwater bases, and minimal plot. That's basically GI Joe.

Now, the sequel does appear to ramp things up on that angle considerably.

The problem with Uma Thurman is that she's too skinny.  Men, at their heart, want a fleshed out body and booty.  A women who is simply skin and bones just doesn't attract.  And if she lacks acting talent it's even worse!

Bruce Willis, I dunno.  He's a fun guy; well past his prime; but I'll be lying if I don't say seeing him say yippie kay yay mother fucker is a major thumbs up.

Complaining about Tarantino and his tributes to his favorite films is stupid because his movies, while taking pieces from classic films, are really their own thing. A Fistful of Dollars is basically Yojimbo in the Wild West. Does this take away from the movie's quality? Fuck no it doesn't. Judge films on their own merits.

That Bruce Willis cameo at the end.  :lol So cheesy. I love how they act like it's a big deal. Bruce Willis is in like 30 shitty movies a year.

This is the kind of fights I thought Joe would be having, when the 4" figures came out. (I'm old enough that my first Joes were the 12" ones, with cloth outfits.)
The '12 ones with cloth outfits were way better. I loved those as a kid. Those little ones where the insides were held together by a rubber-band couldn't ever compare.

Paul

really enjoyed this, you totally forget pegg and frost are pegg and frost right off the bat.  didn't realize paul was voiced by seth rogen until the scene where they get stoned and he laughs with that laugh that nobody in the world except for seth rogen has - which pulled me out of the movie a bit all the way until the end.  you also forget that the guy from arrested development is the guy from arrested development. watch this.

Red State

went into this knowing absolutely nothing about it, and you should too, so stop reading this.  slow to start but when it gets rolling is pretty good, needless to say i enjoyed the shit out of the gunplay, the lack of competence the kids had with rifles was infuriating.  also enjoyed the Alex Jones esque view on the ATF.  the ending scene alone makes this a great movie.

Inglorious Basterds = Pulp Fiction > Death Proof > Jackie Brown > Vol 2 > Dogs > Vol 1
Switch Vol. 1 and Reservoir Dogs and I agree completely on the quality of the film.  Person preference is below though...

Inglourious Basterds = Death Proof > Pulp Fiction > Jackie Brown > Vol 2 > Vol 1 > Reservoir Dogs (Death Proof just tickles me the right way.  I fucking adore that movie)

And don't get me wrong, RD is an excellent film and there is a lot to be admired but I think it's the lowest of Tarantino's and has some serious pacing issues.  Still brilliant though.

None of them are good? Whats your beef with Tarantino.

Pulp Fiction is the best, but I like all Tarantino movies in some way, although I have to say his schtick is starting to wear thin. If he continues like this he will be the next Woody Allen. Wes Anderson is also on this track as to keep making AAA movies forever, that are all the same in their core.

@Zephyr: Dunno about him. Do gay men ever like types like

Would be nice to see if he could make a movie without it being a Tarantino movie.

That means nothing. Directors sometimes have distinctive styles, like Godard for example. And his style isn't always the same. Vol 1 and 2 are completely different from the rest and Pulp Fiction is NOTHING like anything in his oeuvre. The only similarities his films have is that they're dialogue heavy; and dialogue heavy scripts allows for different interpretations and styles. Even Kill Bill -- both volumes -- aren't really dialogue heavy so even THAT isn't true. Death Proof and Inglorious Basterds have entirely different types of film making techniques. IB is all about long takes, almost Godard-esque, Death Proof is all about escalation roaring into a fiery climax. Pulp Fiction has multiple narratives running around at once!

The biggest factor in this is the editing, his movies are all edited in a very specific way, especially with the way the musical cues are treated. Since Sally Menke is dead, I'm curious how his new film will be edited, because those two's styles were like peas and carrots.

Most notably, Anderson likes to reuse themes (e.g. parental abandonment, paternal regret [stemming particularly from past selfishness], sibling rivalry).  That's in addition to reuse of color motifs, framing, montages, yadda yadda.  I get the criticism, but I don't think it devalues his work at all; I think it just makes it easier for people to dislike it.

When he does revisit a particular theme, he doesn't tend expand on it at all.  Royal Tenenbaum and Steve Zissou are practically the same character (and Mr. Fox too, with some stretching) and they both develop from a similar experience in the same way.

Similarly, the Darjeeling Limited adds nothing on top of The Royal Tenenbaums.  It reuses the same ideas, reset in a different location.

That isn't to say they aren't good films individually, but as a body of work, it's repetitive.

The outline of Anderson's next flick is,

Set in the 1960s, a pair of young lovers flee their New England island town, prompting a local search party led by the Sheriff and the girl's parents to fan out to find them.
