It was fun. I'm not a horror fan, but I still thought it was a good ti me. The trailers and commercials really don't give anything away.

I don't know if this museum has always been like this or is just now getting weird but this summer they're showing Nekromantik, the touching German story of a three way love triangle between a man, a woman and a corpse.

 :nsfw

It may seem naïve now, but when I saw Nekromantic originally, it was the first film that ever made me feel more impure, just for having seen it. It was pretty groundbreaking for its time.

Cabin in the Woods

Was awesome.  Go see it!

I'm very glad I hadn't seen any media on it beforehand.  All I knew was that it was written by Joss Whedon and directed by the guy who did Cloverfield.  Both people I like!  They made a fun movie here.

Go see Cabin in the Woods.  Avoid learning anything about it other than it's name

though the opening credits basically give it all away.

Also saw Four Flies of Grey Velvet, the "lost" Argento film.  Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  I think that may have more to do with the British cut they had on hand but I was really unimpressed.

In Time
:lol :lol :lol This movie is so bad its good. Its a terrible Bonnie and Clyde type movie for the modern teenage idiot. There are some neat concepts but instead of fleshing it out they make too many annoying puns and throw too many adolescent metaphors for capitalism in the mix while letting the basis of the world fall apart as the movie goes on and they explain more. It was really stupid fun that thought it was way more clever than it really was.

Eric P, I tracked down Ginger Snaps because you mentioned it as an alternative to Teeth and I don't think I'll ever watch Teeth because the thought of penises getting chomped on gives me the shivers.  Hope it's good!

Fast Five

I think...I don't like dumb action movies anymore.  I've never seen any of the Furious movies so I have zero connection to the cast.  But I heard this was a fun popcorn movie that you can jump right into.  I only watched the first 35 mins of this, but it was dreadfully boring and the acting was really terrible.  I really enjoy Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson so I thought I'd dig this, but I dunno if I'm going to bother finishing it.  I made it past the initial CALL OF DUTY ROOFTOP CHASE (which was a reaaally badly directed action scene).  Does it get better?  There hasn't really been much car action yet and I'm guessing that's what this franchise does well.

Trigger Man

Jesus, Ti West is the MASTER of intense horror.  Movie is about a dude being hunted in the woods.  The pacing is slow but the build up, like House of the Devil, just has you on the edge of your seat afraid to look because any moment something is going to happen.  The first hour is masterful in that sense.  And when it gets going it kind of goes all over the place for a bit, but then the last 30 mins are nerve-racking again.  The camera sticks and stays right behind the main characters head so you only see what he's seeing and that narrow vision makes it tense as hell.  The only thing is that coming from all these FPS games with snipers, it's frustrating that the guy leaves himself open so much, but he's not supposed to be a military guy or anything so it's understandable.

Not much story and probably only a few dozen lines in the entire film, but it's just soaked with atmosphere and intense as it gets.  Worth watching for horror films who enjoy horror for the fear factor and not for the money shots of violence.

damn good low budget horror.  Totally character driven with a really good set up and misdirection that rewards you paying attention to the little character moments as well as a the horrorific elements.  An excellent little thing I'd categorize as being in the "weird" genre.

A Dangerous Method

In a word: inconsequential. The production is well-handled and it has some fine performances from the three leads, but it just doesn't amount to anything at the end. It's too disjointed and too purposeless to be truly compelling. Rather than offering an in-depth study of either the characters or psychoanalysis, it exists as rather a brief window into the lives of the characters, but not enough to really understand who they were or what they were all about. Not a terrible movie by any means, but still disappointing.

Fast Five part deux

Ok, finished Fast Five and it was...ok.  The caper part was a poor man's Ocean's Eleven.  Diesel vs. the Rock was ok but action direction was choppy.  The vault chase was cool in a totally ridiculous way and the epilogue was great.  Overall, movie was passable, but very generic and forgettable.  I dunno, probably better if you've seen the other one's and care about these characters.  I'll stick with Riddick.

Another Earth.  I really liked it a great deal.
I always feel like the stories fall flat in these types of movies but this one was actually pretty effective.  It really pulled off the spooky, existentialist vibe from the whole situation and let it drive the movie.

Warrior
I'm not usually a fan of sports movies of any kind.  I tend to find them pretty cliche and the backdrop of sports doesn't interest me one bit.  This movie had a lot of the usual cliches from sports movies but it has a pretty unique setting and it has a few different avenues that the movie can take.  You see it all coming from a mile away but it does a good job of building up the excitement for each fight.  And as cheesy as it was I really loved the end.  It was a really great way of ending it.

Sean O'Neal is the greatest popculture newswire writer of our time.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/joe-eszterhas-judah-maccabee-script-has-the-sort-o,72471/

Quote
Though it wouldn’t seem to have enough fuel, the controversy over Mel Gibson’s proposed Judah Maccabee movie has continued to burn for nearly eight magical nights—and will likely go on for weeks to come, as Gibson remains sustained by his deep, abiding faith that the real problem with making a Mel Gibson Hanukkah movie is the script. Suggesting it has some slight doubts about that, The Wrap delves into the shelved screenplay, revealing that, Gibson’s assertions aside, Joe Eszterhas’ take on the story of Maccabee’s revolt against his Greek-Syrian oppressors is actually “remarkably faithful” to the original tale—a serious and reverent approach that nevertheless does not preclude it from being titled with the mysterious acronym M.C.K.B.I., perhaps because Fast And Hebrew-ious was deemed too silly.  Mel Commentating Knowledgeably to Bunches of Israelites is also not what it stands for, but should, obviously.

By way of disproving Warner Bros.’ notion that Eszterhas’ lacked “feeling” and a “sense of triumph,” The Wrap details the movie’s many scenes of beheading, neck-snapping, “throat-slitting,” eyes being gouged out with daggers, hearts ripped from chests, and “miles of heads on stakes”—all of which sounds very triumphant and full of feelings indeed. “It’s a metaphor, you know, for the way Jews had their heads cut off and hearts ripped out,” Eszterhas probably said. Anyway, as The Wrap needlessly elucidates, that mix of ultra-violence with historical circumstance is a formula “Mel Gibson should absolutely love,” given that it replicates elements of past Gibson projects like The Passion Of The Christ and Braveheart and it even has a guy giving a big, platitude-filled speech about freedom. But of course, this isn’t the first time Gibson has been handed a story about a bunch of Jews getting killed and denied it.

That last line, god damn.  :bow

Good indie werewolf flick with an interesting twist.  Wasn't huge on the ending, but most of the film is pretty witty and fun.  Might check out the sequel since it has pretty good reviews as well going by RT.

Ginger Snaps

Good indie werewolf flick with an interesting twist.  Wasn't huge on the ending, but most of the film is pretty witty and fun.  Might check out the sequel since it has pretty good reviews as well going by RT.

All three are worth watching.  Time has probably dulled the first one a bit.  I still think the second one should be good and the third one should also be pretty good.  They tried to go for something really different, but it didn't quite work out.  Still worth watching, I'd say.
