ah man, I sure dug
Headhunters. Which is as polished as any Hollywood thriller, but as pleasingly amoral as a European one. An ultra-slick corporate stooge moonlights as an art thief of clients he headhunts, until he bites off waaaaay more then he can chew with his latest target, a former CEO/'person with a particular set of skills' who provides an irresistible professional/criminal opportunity.
Headhunters isn't just great because its an effective thriller, its great because its so damn entertaining, with lots of well executed pitch black humor, and a slippery, satisfyingly callous protagonist who's a lot of fun to watch squirm and worm his way out of his increasingly bleaker situation.
And its also great because between all the well staged nastiness it finds time to make its characters feel like more then the archetypes they initially appear to be. Hell, there's some simple, spare dialog about the protagonists marriage that feels more truthful in three sentences then whole movies about relationship dramas.
when I make my top 10 list of this year, I'm pretty sure that Headhunters will find a spot on there, probably on the top half of the list. It really is pretty damn great.
