Wolf of Wall Street
Fucking great! I mean, I don't think there's ever been a "bad" Scorsese movie (even Gangs of NY being his weakest in the last couple of decade; it was still a good watch), or even one that wasn't ridiculously entertaining. Very well directed, incredible performances. Like wowwww, DiCaprio even outdid his Howard Hughes role in Scorsese's The Aviator. If it wasn't for those 12 Years a Slave performances (which were damn good), he'd be winning best actor for sure this year. Still could! Even Jonah Hill was great, as were all the supporting actors/actresses. The script was REALLY GOOD. Very funny and entertaining while also telling a good story. Maybe best film I've seen this year. I liked 12 Years a Slave a lot, but it was more for the powerhouse performances from everyone and less from the film as a whole itself (which was good, just didn't think it amazing). Going to see Inside Illeywn Davis tonight (most hyped film for me this year as Coen Brothers are my favorite directors), then will check out Her down the line and see where Wolf stands, but yeah, absolutely worth the ticket price.
I was surprised at the low RT score (77% or something) for a Scorsese film, but then reading the reviews it's kind of lame. Basically the movie is about greed and excess and so there is a HUGE excess amount of full-frontal naked models everywhere, lots of sex and lots of cursing to emphasize the vulgarity of it all. Apparently this upsets a lot of people and at least half of the negative reviews are by conservative people getting offended that the movie wasn't NC-17 (which I agree, Scorsese totally got a pass by the MPAA because it's Scorsese. No one else would've gotten this cut through without an NC-17). Lame.
